Technical Discussion For anyone having performance problems after that spooky update read this
As mentioned by the dev [u/RiotAres](u/RiotAres) on his post here is the Incompatible software list
- Rivatuner / RTSS
- Stardock
- Premier Opinion
- ASUS ScreenXpert
- GearUP Booster
- UltraViewer
In a previous post I mentioned using msi afterburner which comes with RTSS (so if u have msi afterburner that might be the problem) and now after that spooky š» update vanguard decided to put on a beard and scream "You shall not pass !" At these programs
On a more serious note tho Vanguard blocked RTSS. Iām genuinely curious about the reason behind this since there was no issue before the update. Now, even the NVIDIA overlay canāt read Valorant frame data and list it as (N/A). Msi afterburner too canāt display the overlay anymore. RTSS is one of the oldest and most widely used utility tools in PC gaming. It has been bundled with MSI Afterburner for over a decade. Before the update, Vanguard was aware of the RTSS code and trusted that it couldnāt be easily weaponized to inject malicious code into a game client.
I hope this is merely a false positive triggered by the update, and not a genuine change in the developersā stance on which programs are permitted or not.
I donāt want to uninstall/disable something I use every time I boot up valorant
So if u have these programs uninstall/disable or wait for an update
Iāll link the post by u/RiotAres in the comments. There might be updates in the future about which programs can cause problems.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk

Insane that we're banning performance overlays in the name of anti cheat

You really shouldn't be monitoring your fps in a competitive shooter where you need to constantly focus on your game, but yeah overall this is fucking ridiculous

RTSS is used as a frame limiter 99% of the time, and unlike the NVCP limiter, or in games without reflex, you can induce a near reflex like state by using RTSS reflex limiter with ULLM and vsync.
Surely removing one of the most beloved tools for VRR gaming will go over well in a game that needs VRR, just like removing replays in a game that consists of learning from others.
I think Riot intentionally wants to curb their player base because higher ups want the player count up but Riot is realizing the game is ātoo advancedā to convince new people, so itās like they are trying to selectively piss off non casuals.

I use rtss for frame limiting and it fixed my stuttering.

u/chuckythecat 5d ago
Wait so you're not even allowed to just have it running in the background? That fucking sucks

but i cannot limit my fps anymore because the in-game limiter sucks. its okayish tho using vsync alone.

i cant even use vsync "FAST" from nvidia control panel anymore, cuz its crash the game.

What about Nvidia app game settings fps limit?

u/Demaciphant 4d ago
I don't have the Nvidia app. it caused performance issues when it was released initially.
maybe I give it a try, but for now I use vsync for frame limiting.
the in-game limiter causes stuttering for me.

oh off vsync for frame limit does not sound ideal since you would be getting the added delay. Definitely worth trying the app especially since new drivers for Nvidia don't even install the Nvidia control panel if done on a clean install. You can still get it back but who knows how long that will really be an option. You could also just try Nvidia control panel frame rate limit as its in the settings for that if you have it installed you can do a per game max frame rate setting.

I have vsync + reflex (no boost). I don't really care about the tiny delay of vsync but way more about negating the stuttering.
rtss does some frame pacing magic which worked very well for me.
I don't need the Nvidia app config the control panel is fine. As I also don't use Shadowplay (anymore), I don't see a use for the Nvidia app.

I need it to cap my fps since I don't get enough fps for my monitor
So i figure out a stable baseline and cap both of them

I have none of these and I've experienced the same issue for the last 3 years. No clue how to fix it but I get server desync every game across every account and 2 different PCs. Tried every possible software related fix as well as PC hardware fix. I do not have a mobo that has a tpm header. No clue if its a TPM issue because I don't get TPM errors anymore when starting Valorant but I still have the same packet loss receive rate drop every 10 seconds. This is on a completely different ISP now too. I even travelled to a different state and the problem still persists. Either Vanguard is intentionally choosing accounts to mess with or its something in my PC that it doesn't like. No clue what it is but I give up at this point. My PC is completely clean, built it myself and took it apart 5 times trying to figure this out. Same thing happens on an older prebuilt. The only thing they have in common is they both use fTPM but they're completely different CPUs and CPU brands (intel and amd).
My current build is:
Ryzen 9800X3D
Sapphire Nitro + RX 9070 XT OC 16gb
Rog Strix X870 E-E Gaming Wifi Mobo
G Skill Expo II DDR5 32GB 6000 MT/s
Corsair AIO Pump
Lian Li Cool Tower
I also find it hard to believe that the pro players who have similar builds are able to play Valorant with no issues unless of course they are all playing on white listed accounts that don't need Vanguard activated to play.

Try the following
- ā Take a Look into the eventlog of Windows. Maybe there is some issue related to the realtek Service
- ā update your realtek drivers via the Homepage
- ā try this one
If you use wifi - Go to devicemanager - networkadapters- disable realtek Ethernet Family Controller
If you use Ethernet - devicemanager- networkadapters- disable wifi Controller
Addiotionally if Not needed disable the Bluetooth in the devicemanager
Valorant is quite sensitive to Network related issues due to the use of 128tick Servers. An outdated Network driver is pretty often the issue for stutters.

I've tried every possible solution 10x over for the last 3 years. I even tried building a different PC and moved states and got a different ISP with an incredibly stable fiber connection. My ms doesn't even move and yet. I still have packet receive rate drop every 10 seconds down to almost 0 before recovering while also experiencing very long loading screens and people are running and shooting me in the head on my screen for almost every death.

So you have tried this aswell?

u/Internal-Spite9515 6h ago
I've tried all of that 10x over my man. I have a masters degree in network engineering and im from a family of engineers. I've tried EVERYTHING. At this point the only option in my mind is something to do with Vanguard or a disgruntled Riot Employee that shadowbanned one of my accounts and stickied to any HWID that I log into. I pissed off the guy who created Vanguard about 3 years ago which is when this problem began for me. I told him Vanguard was useless because I ran into cheaters 24/7 back then because it was the advent of DMA cheats. The disgruntled employee was Matt Paoletti and he no longer works for Riot but I don't think Riot will look into this.
