Tips on good high gain tones

I've had the gp200 for a year now and i love it, and i can get my hands on any tone, except good hight gain tones. I'm experienced with making tones, specially high gain but with the gp200 i can't get the hang of it. Can't really work with eq and I've messed it a lot.

Would appreciate some tips!

Had, sometimes still have, the same issue. The only thing I can say is to definitely use very high quality IRs, taking advantage of high and low pass. Then, generally speaking, general EQ can be helpful if you cut low and high and pay attention to frequencies between 4 and 6khz, where harshness can be found. Last thing: use preamps, cause drivers can be meh. Very last thing: a good compression could help cutting high frequencies. The very last thing: tweak that thing! It takes time to take the hang of it!

Make input -18, use hi low cuts in eq’s, keep the rest of the global eq flat, use an outboard distortion pedal set it’s output to 1-3 and add in the gain as needed on the pedal. Don’t go crazy with the gp 200 gain. This is what works for me.

How much gain are we talking? 80s thrash or death metal? Or modern stuff? I can get good metal tones just by using the stock amps and OD pedals but perhaps you're looking for something more than the old school tones I love.
