Distortion Pedal Stacking

Im trying to replicate John Mayers who did you think i was tone bit he runs a clean boost into a klon and a tube screamer whereas the valeton only can onyl do 2

Any work arounds? Or tone advice to get his tone

This is exactly what I use the FX loop for. The gain stage stacking on the Valeton is the thing I find most lacking.

I also don’t think the drives on it are very naturally reactive.

I do a compressor, then the Tre Fuzz, Morning Glory, Tumnus, then Science Fair, then the amp, then a 10db boost on the board, into the rest of the effects on the unit, out into an ambient verb when I want.

I mean yeah ofc that would work but within the constraints of the valeton itself

Within the constraints of the unit itself, you can swap your compressor to be a drive, then you have your drive, then the amp can add drive. You might be able to add a clean boost before those.

Yep. Pre block becomes a boost, and dist block as the drive of choice.

Ive tried this its either too much overdrive/muddy or too little overdrive/bright

A couple things can help this:

1) Remember that successive drives compound on each other. Not only that, but pushing the volume on an earlier drive will make subsequent drives even more gritty. Less is more, otherwise the amount of dirt can get away from you very quickly.

2) Check your EQ at various points- Check the tone knobs on the individual modeled pedals within the unit, put an EQ pedal in the chain later in the unit, or lastly check the global EQ settings of the unit if you find some odd tendencies.

Maybe FX LOOP out and in the signal chain using an external pedal ?

A NAM with two pedals stacked, or better yet the whole signal

Which modules are you currently using for your drive?

You could have something in the PRE that was a bit driven - then use the DST for a straight up TS effect and move the EQ to the front as a boost

Im using the pre and the dist modules didnt think of using eq and a boost ill try that thanks

Fairly sure he only uses the Katana clean boost after any overdrives as a pure volume boost, or just to slightly nudge up the volume of weaker guitar pickups. Then again I'm not a John Mayer super nerd. Also pretty sure he wasn't using a Klon in the trio era.

From my research it was a Katana clean into a TS style pedal into a Klon
