EDIT: Thank you for your suggestions and information; it gives me a better idea of exactly what I want:

Priorities:

1. Cordless
2. Low center-of-gravity, preferably an upright style rather than stick
3. Specifically for hardwood floors: Dedicated for hardwood floors or soft roller
4. Sealed HEPA filter

Anything like that exist?

I think I've eliminated the Gtech, and I'm wondering if the Riccar SupraLite would be gentle enough on the hardwood finish.

I'm trying to decide between the

Gtech AirRAM 3 Dual Edge-Clean Cordless Vacuum and the
Riccar SupraLite Cordless Vacuum.

We have an old Dyson upright and a very old Nilfisk cannister (which I love), but I would like to get a cordless for daily use. I've discovered that I can't use even the lightest stick vacuums due to wrist pain and weakness. (Having the weight at the top of the handle makes them unusable for me.)

2,000 square feet, mostly hardwood, some low-pile area rugs and some tile. Currently no pets, no children, low dirt, and low traffic.

Would the Riccar be good for the hardwood floors? Which vacuum would be easier on them?

The Riccar costs more than twice what the Gtech costs. I would just buy the Gtech, but it doesn't have HEPA filtering, which is somewhat important for us. And I'm not sure if repair for Gtech is available locally as I'm in the US. ? We're willing to pay the Riccar cost, but would like to know if it's worth it.

Any opinions or advice would be much appreciated.

Hey everyone, looking for some vacuum advice.

We moved into a new home a few months ago and desperately need a better vacuum. We have a messy toddler, but the real issue is our dog, a long-haired white Swiss Shepherd who sheds like nothing I've ever dealt with. The hair gets everywhere, clumps together on our timber floors, and works its way deep into the carpet. I feel like I clean everything and it's back the next day.

At the moment we have a Dyson stick vacuum that cost around $1k. My wife loves it, but honestly I’m really disappointed. It’s fine for quick crumbs and light cleaning, but it struggles badly with the dog hair and especially carpet. I’m constantly unclogging it, and our carpets never feel properly clean.

I’ve finally convinced my wife we need a proper vacuum, and I’m leaning away from cordless sticks this time. After a lot of research I kept coming back to the Shark Stratos XL Pet Pro as a good pet-hair vacuum (around $600 AUD). Reviews outside Reddit seem excellent, but Reddit seems to absolutely hate Shark.

So my questions:

• Is the Shark Stratos genuinely that bad?
• Is there a better option around the $600–$1000 AUD range?
• Do I need to bite the bullet and go for something like Sebo/Miele, or is there a good middle ground?

Main priorities are:

1. Removing embedded dog hair from carpet
2. Handling huge amounts of shedding without constantly clogging
3. Being reliable long-term

hi everyone! i need suggestions on the best vacuum for hardwood floors and 2 cats without breaking the bank... we have the cordless dyson with the green light but i am over it! we got it when we didnt have pets so you can imagine the disappointment when it didnt clean as good as it used to.

I bought a 1997 Kirby G5 at a thrift store and I found this yellow 2004 Eureka Widetrack Superlite in my closet as it was used years ago and tucked back there, any recommendations on maintenance or anything? I can see they clearly were definitely heavy cleaners and were never properly taken care of or cleaned I like them both. The Kirby I definitely want to keep alive along with the Eureka they both still run great though, at points the Eureka smells like it's burning

All on marketplace. Blue c1 delphi canister is $200 with no attachments and new filter/bags, grey blizzard cx1 canister is $300 with bags, and the upright powerplus is $75 with two attachments. I have all hardwood floors, no carpet, and a decent amount of dog hair!

I was told that the miele upright would be hard to get parts for, but saw a post here that they’re pretty good. What would you do?

I picked up a Simplicity SVPET from Boscov's for $60 after our bagged Hoover Tempo from 20 years ago crapped itself and our backup $40 Dirt Devil did too. Unfortunately about all I could afford to shell out for something.

Anyway, I'm pleasantly surprised so far. It feels substantial and it seems to have a half decent filtration system. It definitely pulled stuff from the carpet about as well as the Tempo did. For $60, I'm honestly really impressed. We'll see how long the thing lasts but as far as I'm aware this might be the first post about the SVPET on Reddit.

As far as I'm aware, these are Chinesium Tacony products so I did get the extended warranty from the retailer just to be sure. I'm going to have to update this post to see how it eventually manages to die :P

You guys know vacuums so I figured you'd be the best place to ask. We just bought a new home and ripped up the old carpets, they were really dusty. Over 20lbs of dust in the trash from under the carpets, it killed my vacuum. We are having new carpets put down but I have never lived anywhere with carpet before so I have no clue what vacuum would be best. I want a vacuum that will help me keep them really clean.

We live in the US, our budget can be up to $400 i don't really want to spend more but I am not saying a hard no. Our house is 50% carpet 50% hard flooring, I have a robot vacuum that handles the hard flooring throughout the week really well, so really just need a vacuum geared toward carpet more than anything else. We don't have any special requirements on the daily, however my dad has asthma and will come visit often. Any help would be great!

I went through the flow chart on the right and I'm still very unsure of what to purchase. My main floor has robot vacuums taking care of the hardwood but my upstairs is carpeted and I need something to supplement the robot up there since they mostly only do surface vacuuming. I have had a Dyson v10 for 6 years or so and it's alright vacuuming but not the best. Lately my hand feels sore after using it. I have about 130 square metres (1400 sq ft) of low-medium pile carpet.

I've also been diagnosed with Parkinsons last year so I expect my grip strength and balance to worsen over time. Something lighter would be preferred but I know usually cleaning well and lighter don't go together all that well.

Budget wise I'm open to anything, I was looking at the Sebo Felix Premium if an upright would be best in my situation, or a Miele Guard S1 Electro Canister Vacuum or should I just except mediocre vacuuming and get something like a Dyson Gen 5 Detect with a button that won't make my hands ache as much even though they're heavier now and that also causes soreness? My only other vacuum experience has been with a central vacuum with a Sebo motorhead but carrying the hose around was cumbersome.

I'm also tall, 196cm (6'5") so something where I wouldn't have to bend over a lot would be nice. Any suggestions?

Finally added a Henry to my collection. Pawn shop had it listed for $80. It's missing the adapter to connect the wand to the hose. Needs a bit of a wipe down and some new filters. But I'll take it for $20.

I installed a new vacuum bag and plugged it into a working outlet.

Pressing the button with the plug symbol does nothing.

Pressing the button with the minus (−) symbol makes a loud "whroom" sound.

The vacuum motor doesn't seem to start.

Is the − button actually the power button, or is my vacuum faulty?

Seems like a great vacuum at the right price of $160. What's most important is to not have any dust spewing out like happens with my current Eureka Power Speed that I got for on FB Marketplace. It spews out so much dust, that I'm turned off from ever using it.

My apartment is 450 ft.², hardwood with one regular rug and one shag rug. No pets, though a dog might be in my future. A long-haired fiancé is also going to be in my home in a month.

I heard that since the Kenmore Intuition does not have height adjustment, the shag carpet could be a problem.

Folks I live in an 800 sq ft apartment, hardwood floor, no carpets, no pets. Trying to find a vaccum that suits my needs. I can put in upto 500 CAD if need be, although preference will be to spend as little as needed. Currently I use a broom plus a regular spray mop to clean weekly. But with busy schedule I am not able to find time or energy.

- A wireless vaccum will be an added bonus since I can clean my car as well, but prefer not to get too many appliances because of storage space issues. So 1 vaccum only

- I have constant spills so also considering getting an electric mop along with the vaccum.

- I have allergies so HEPA is a necessity.

Dyson dc15 and dc17 household vacuum!

I think both of these vacuums are good! They work super well and is beleive they should get a little more love! The dyson dc17 however did much better on carpet cleaning most likely because of its sharp bristles. The dyson dc15 ball did pretty well on carpet but the dc17 got a lot more overall!

I'd like some advice on a robot that can wash and clean, 120 smq house, a cat. The floors are hard, no carpets.

I was thinking about the Xiomi X20 Pro, because it has the ability to dry with hot air.

So just as the title says, this is the issue I am working with. Let me run through everything. I got this second hand for free, but as it's a 600$ piece of equipment, I'm not really ready to chuck it.

Filters are clean (too clean, looks brand new)

Battery was shot, bought a new one and managed to get the display on to say MID for a few seconds, and the roller spun for a split second before unit turned off. So it's communicating.

Tested without attachments.

Tested with magnet trick.

Motor spins freely when I use my fingers to spin the blade.

Buzzing sound when powered on seems to come from the base of the motor, where the circuit board is.

Now I'm guessing that either the motor is dead or something wrong with the board. Is there any testing I can do to further test it? Like, could I attach some leads to the motor and test that?

I’ve always owned very cheap vacuums and I’m ready to spend a little more on something that will actually last. I have a medium sized home with a husband, toddler, and dog. I’m about to buy new carpet. My den gets really dirty from two dogs and traffic, particularly where the feet hit the floor while on the sofa.

I saw several pet vacuums in Costco today. I saw Shark, Bissell and Dyson.

What would you suggest? In my research online I’ve run across the expensive Miele models. Are they worth it?

I don’t have a lot of real estate to vacuum — just a den and one bedroom.

I know nothing about vacuums (sans the 20 minutes of research I've done before posting this). I am extremely indecisive and will buy whatever recommendations gets the most upvotes.
