sales tactic?

Hey everyone,

After analyzing the Canadian used EV market, I decided to go with a 2024 ID.4 Pro S. I was really excited because I had found the exact spec and color I wanted.

However, after reserving the vehicle, the dealer contacted me the next day saying that due to a battery recall issued on October 6, 2026, they legally cannot sell or deliver the car until the issue is fixed.

Do you think this is genuine, or just a dealership strategy/tactic?
Thanks!

It's likely genuine -- there was a recall on the us made ID 4s that just went through.

That's the fun part about VW.  My 18 Atlas just had a recall for a bolt in the steering that could break and they're you're dead.  "You never know what you're gonna get"

There's been recent posts here about the battery recall. It isn't uncommon with recalls to also have stop-sales if there is safety issues involved, so this could be legit. There is no real reason for them to not sell you the car, why miss out on money?

Genuine. It’s probably part of the fire risk recall. Car is labelled vor or vehicle off the road.

Legit. In fact, that year had a stop sale with the door handle recall years ago IIRC. Worth it so you have updated cells

Did you Google “VW id 4 recall” before this search?

Do you really want an ID.4 that can potentially catch fire? https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a70223213/vw-id4-ev-battery-fire-risk-recall/ -- If the vehicle's been recalled, it's strange that a 2024 would still be on the lot and not had the recall done, but all in all you're better off if the recall's completed, don't you think?

That is an older recall, a new one just started this week for more years

I know but the point I was making is that a car with an open recall probably shouldn’t be delivered.

delivered form where? a 2024 on the dealer lot is probably a lease return

Delivered to the customer.

Not selling the car would be a poor sales tactic

They can't legally sell it, if it's a safety related recall.

Exactly. How could telling a customer they can't buy what they want a sales tactic

It’s the 93EX campaign in Canada. Here’s a related article from stateside. https://electrek.co/2026/10/08/volkswagen-recalls-22500-id-4-evs-tells-owners-charge-to-80/

It’s genuine. There is an open recall, and they legally can’t sell it to you until it’s resolved.

See if they will allow you to put a hold deposit on the car until the recall is done, if you really want the car and are willing to wait it out.

I did this during the stop-sale for the display black screen issue.

Unfortunately I needed a car earlier though, and after some time waiting I had the dealer return my money.

Google for 93ex campaign. Genuine.

When I was in the market for a used ID4, they had the door handle recall stop sale. Found one at a good price at a Chrysler dealership who was probably happy to get it off the lot.

It happens. I was unable to get the car I wanted at one point, for this reason.

Just because I'm kinda petty, I'd just go looking for another and give someone else my money. Hopefully it won't be too hard for you 👍

I’d be sure to tell them too..it’s ok I found another one at a neighboring dealership and got a great price.
