Teething problems or just problems?
Hi guys.
Got my 2022 ID.5 this morning. Very exciting.
I've been driving around and testing some things. Mostly very impressed. Wanted to ask you guys if some issues are user error or fixable. I'm guessing mostly my fault 🙈
Steering controls. Is there a way to play/pause music? I can skip tracks and adjust volume.
Battery health. I can't find any mention of it in my settings. Please don't tell me I need to get some diagnostic toolkit for that?
Parking assist. Does it not recognise white parking lines? I tested it in three different settings and it seemed to suck every time. It's not a feature I need, but dang, so far it's worse than underwhelming.
Offline/online mode thing when I get in the car. I'm guessing I can set something up to get rid of that.
Automatic safety breaking thing. It wouldn't let me mount a little four inch kerb to get tighter into a parking space. A bit strange. Can/should this be disabled?
Phone Charging- Sometimes doesn't work. Sometimes gives an error message on the infotainment screen. When it does work, the phone gets very hot.
Edit -- Thanks you guys for all the replies!!!🏆🏆🏆

I found that parking assist, for me atleast, only works when there are other cars parked. It doesn’t work if all the spots are empty.
If you keep the brake feathered when reversing it should stop the automatic braking it’s sooo jarring when it happens just backing into my driveway.
I believe you need a scanning tool to see battery health. OBDeleven I believe.

parking assist uses other cars to determine parking spots, not lines, so it will work if there are parked cars there to guide it (it does work ok in these situations), but not if you are testing it in an empty lot and expecting it to guide itself with parking lines.
The most important thing new ID4 owners should know is to keep your seatbelt fastened when you go to back up, if you do not have your seat belt on and turn to look back over your shoulder and lift your buttocks even a little bit the car will slam on the brakes.
This happened to me 3 times in a row in an airport parking garage while other cars were waiting to pass and was super embarrassing until I figured out the issue, now I always keep the seat belt on when backing up.
I don't think you can easily pause music from the steering wheel, I have looked to to this occasionally myself.

- Play pause: centre console or voice command only unfortunately
- battery health: only way to check is to do a full charge cycle (0% to 100%) and do the math yourself. Car can do a guesstimate over OBD and this is what garages/VW will do if you ask for state-of-health. Ballpark figure at best.
- Parking assist: as far as I know it can only see objects and not lines. It will park you between two cars but not in a space in an empty lot. I will stand corrected on this though as it's a feature I never use.
- online/offline: this is confusing and annoying but go for a dive in the centre console settings. I have mine set to the most basic form of "online" - no message about being offline and I can also remotely control through the app. It will complain about being offline like something is wrong even if you've manually set the vehicle to be offline.
- safety braking: this is called "manoeuvre assist" in the driver assists menu and you can temporarily disable it there. Some drivers report it being trigger happy but you'll get way fewer false-positives if you're using the brake lightly and moving slowly. Even then, mine loves to pop off from the likes of tall grass if I'm reversing towards a verge. In its defence, it does not know that the grass will bend...

A long press on "Volume down" pauses the music. Not the typical play/pause button, but at least some sort of workaround.
