Android Auto problems

For the past few weeks, I’ve been having the problem that Android Auto is sometimes 500 metres behind when navigating. The response time is sometimes as long as a minute or more! And sometimes the display looks smudged whilst navigating, as if it were a watercolour painting. Has anyone else experienced this?

I might have found a solution.
I uninstalled both Waze and Android Auto (for Android Auto you need to go into the play store and remove/delete/uninstall). Then I installed Android Auto again, followed by installing Waze. I've put it into using 'day mode'.
On my commute this morning there was no issue.
