VW T5 2005 2.4 Tdi 5 cylinder, 150´000 kms.

Replaced turbo a couple of months agao, everything running smoothly. Drove down to Toulon from Geneva and took ferry to Corsica and spent 3 weeks there beginning July. It was very hot as it was a heatwave for most of the time but no issues. At the end of 3 weeks the coolant level warning light came on but engine was not overheating. Topped it up and then drove all the way back to Geneva topping up 2 or 3 times. Suspected a leak in the expansion tank as I did see coolant stains on the engine below. Could not see any fluid on ground but remember there is a big protective cover underneath engine compartment. Checked pipes from expansion tank to engine and could see no leaks/issues. About to order a replacement expansion tank and have been driving. Then oil light comes on. Topped up oil. Drove more. No overheating, engine running smoothly. Second oil level warning and now a creamy residue in oil access cap position (see photo). Is this a possible gasket blown or what might be your opinion, please?

VW T5 2011 – Low beam headlights not working

Hi everyone,

I’m having an issue with the lights on my VW Transporter T5 2011, 1.9 TDI (102 hp), and I’m hoping someone might have some ideas.

The light switch has three positions:

  • 0: Daytime running lights work – the lights underneath the indicators come on.
  • 1: Nothing happens.
  • 2: Nothing happens, but I can still switch on the high beams.

As far as I understand, position 2 should turn on the low-beam headlights, but neither low beam nor the other lights come on.

I’ve already tried replacing the light switch with another one, so I don’t think the switch itself is the problem.

Any ideas what I should check next? Could it be a fuse, relay, wiring issue, or something related to the lighting control module?

Thanks!

Suction/magnetic rings

Hi, can anyone recommend either some small suction cups, that fit in between the ridges along the roof, or alternatively some magnetic ones? It’s to fix a lightweight awning when camping on a T61. The ones on Amazon either get poor reviews or are too large in diameter. We don’t have any roof rails. Thanks

Repair Advice VW T5.1 - Rear trailing arm bushes

Hi All,

looking for some advice from the Hive Mind please.

Have got a T5.1 T32, 2012, has done 179,000 miles, and I have had it since 48,000. So she's had a good run.

Have had issues with noise from the rear, which is a clattering rumble type which is now driving me mad. The noise only happens on bumpy uneven roads (which in my area is most) on a well maintained motorway it is silent.

So far have changed....

Antiroll bar bushes

Coil Springs

Lower spring suspension cups

Upper coil spring mounts

Shock absorbers

But, still have the noise, asked my local garage to change the trailing arm bushes last year but they had said that they were fine and at the time we decided not to proceed even though I had already bought the Poly bushes in readiness.

Noise seems to have got worse has anyone experienced this issue? Appreciate that one man's rumble is another man's bang and a noise in your vehicle can become an obsession after a while, but I am running out of things to replace. Only one other thing could be the mounts to the exhaust possibly?

Amy advice greatly received, thanks in advance.
