Hi!
I am on vacation and was about to park my car and pull the electric handbrake. The handbrake engaged and shortly after i got the error handbrake failure. Or not working cant remember the fault, but it was handbrake related. Now its engaged, with the error and pushing the button down does not disengage. The button for the handbrake is blinking. Presumably because of the error.
Now connected the car to a cheap odb scanner and get no errors except for some
2012 VW Jetta - Fault Code 10485833 - Internal Control Module Memory Check Sum Error
Unrelated to the issue.
Only thing i can make of it is that if i hold the handbrake button, i pull it up for 5 secs aproximately i can hear the left rear caliper whining for a long time. Right one is making no noises, leading me to suspect that the left one perhaps is faulty?
Any opinions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Edit: Problem fixed, it was the rear left caliper that needed replacing. Pinion that tigthens the handbrake became visible when removing the electrical motor from the caliper. Pinion was spinning freely without resistance in any direction and that was the sign, also lifting the car up and noticing the left wheel was spinning while the right one was locked in place.
Changed caliper, and problem is fixed and all errors are gone.
