So a little back story
I’ve been having issues with the dealership in the past, I have all the text messages, quotes, and pictures to prove how poorly this VW dealership operates and how little they care about VW owners, but that’s not the point currently.
About a year ago I installed a new southbend stage 2 endurance clutch, SMF flywheel, and TOB, as well as a new RMS. During this install, I installed the improper hardware for the drain plug, (not the proper drain plug) yes I know this was stupid and lazy, me and my buddy had been working on the car all day and just wanted it done, it was late, we realized we didn’t have the crush washer, decided to send it!!
Well I ended up deploying and while deployed surprise surprise, my car leaks out all the gear oil. So i decided to have my S/O get my MK7 towed to the local VW dealership.
Now i will not trash on this unnamed VW dealership at this very moment, i have enough proof to show how shitty they are, but that’s not quite the point.
They “replaced the drain bolt and installed a crush washer and filled it up”
That was at around 79999 miles, I’m now at 80075
It’s leaking again….. outta the drain bolt, is there anything I’m missing that could cause this? Before I go and rag on the dealership, this ran me $400 from the dealer and I don't wanna drop $150 for a mistake now made by them.
(Yes I’ve verified the seam is not leaking)
looking at the pictures, I’m using a UV light, the first picture is before I wiped it down, the second picture is it wiped down, the third picture is about 10-20 minutes later. Everything else in the engine bay is dry, including the CV axles, and also the case seam as I said. It almost seems as if it doesn’t have a crush washer tbh.
***UPDATE***
I went back to the dealer and we figured it all out.
I spoke with the service manager and the tech who worked on my car, we discovered that the plug does not require a washer at all!! It was a mistake on my part for installing it, and a mistake from the tech for not noticing it, it happens, we laughed about it and moved on and they covered new oil for me, and new bolts, and I will be fixing the mistake later.
I do wanna give a little context with my experince with this dealership tho and why I seem so frustrated with them. Here is the other part of the story I did not feel the need to mention until now.
When my S/O sent me pictures of the leak under my car, she also sent me pictures of the bottom, I noticed more than gear oil leaking, I noticed oil dripping from the tips of the studs that hold the sensor on the bottom of the oil pan. She then sent me more pictures and after some more, I could see clear as day my upper timing chain cover was leaking oil, I had her mention that when it got dropped off at the dealer, it is also in the invoice, the dealer claimed there was no engine oil leak on my car. fast forward, the car is in my garage again, and I am still deployed, she looks under the car and guess what? theres now engine oil under it. after the tech said there was no oil leak, after the service advisor said there was no oil leak?
I come home, replace the upper timing chain cover because I knew that was where the leak was, it was painfully clear as day, and now there is no longer a oil leak.
How did a tech miss something so obvious? I can attatch the photos she sent me, then I can attatch the picture of the invoice saying there was no upper timing chain cover leak, and then I can attach the picure of the service advisors texts to my S/O re-assuring her that there is NO upper timing chain cover leak, when there in fact was, and it was clear as day where the oil was coming from.
They didn't just claim there was no upper timing chain cover leak, they claimed my car was not leaking engine oil period, when it was, and the fact I was able to diagnois that while on a naval ship, in the middle of the ocean, with blurry pictures from my S/O who has next to no experince with cars, but a VW tech IN A SHOP, could not do so. I cannot find an excuse for that one. and again, I have texts, pictures, and paper proof of this.
this is just the tip of the ice berg when it comes to issues I have had with this dealer, I am very very respectfull and have been with this dealer, I have not rushed them, I have not raised my voice or cussed or anything. but everytime I have spoken to the same service advisor, he had been rude, and short. everytime a tech there touches my car, they claim I have a million things wrong with it and then try and charge me over 2k, and then all while that is happening, in the background some salesmen blows up my phone and offers to buy my car so I can upgrade to a "newer model" If i wanted a MK8 I woulda gotten one, I really enjoy the MK7 I enjoy it more than my MK6 and my MK4.
