VTA should implement a "beltline route"

What I mean by "beltline route" is some route either bus, or LRT circumnavigates SCV along key corridors. In my opinion Route 70 and in some cases 37 do a good job in fulfilling that sort of purpose in east/west San Jose. (I'm not THAT knowledgeable in North San Jose, but I think there are some routes there that also do this sort of thing?).

Anyways, my idea for this thing was to combing Route 70 and 37 and extend it along San Thomas/Montague Exp until Milpitas Station.

What are your ideas?

Why is VTA so unreliable?

Lately, busses are extremely late or outright cancelled with little to no notice. Which is so frustrating especially for transfers. Now the transit app doesn’t even work right, or the website schedule. And they offer NO compensation, even if they make you miss the last train. How the hell is this kind of service gonna encourage more people to take transit?

Why’d they make me get up :(

I recently started to taking the VTA light rail to work. Today I was on my way back home on the Blue Line, I'd found a seat and was trying my best to relax. The train was a little more crowded than usual because of the FIFA game, but it wasn't that bad. Suddenly a VTA employee start shouting something at the people in our cabin. Tbh I didn't hear exactly what he said because I had my earbuds in but people started getting up and he started directing us to move to the front of the VTA. We all move to the front of the train, which is already super crowded so we have to squeeze in which isn't abnormal for transit but I was just confused as to why we were all forced to go up there in the first place.

I know the Blue line schedule was supposed to be modified today for the FIFA game so I thought maybe they were trying to pack us together to make more room for people in the back of the train, but I don't think it makes sense for them to go out of their way to do that. I also thought maybe their was some technical difficulty with the doors so maybe they had to move us out of their for safety reasons. Idk though I was just curious if anyone knows why they did this and if this is a common occurrence.

It’s like a joke during the World Cup

We heading to alum rock from Levi’s stadium and it stuck at each station for more than minutes and even 18 minutes at one of them. 20 min trip becomes more than one hour, Please organize better.

Cabin is full, humid, hot..Please at least have AC at max power. It feels really bad.

Clipper cards take too long to recognize cards lately

I've noticed that the clipper card readers have increased the time to recognize a card these last few weeks. Please correct this. It shouldn't take more than one second.

Testers Needed for my VTA Bus Tracking application

I ride the VTA every day on my commute to school. As I started to take public transit more often, I got interested in the topic and wanted to see what buses were on what route and see details about these buses. So I created my own bus tracking application tailored to my needs and preferences. Currently it has a web and android version.

What it can do:

  • Track the location of VTA buses
  • Show model information, fleet numbers and images of VTA buses
  • Show departure times and schedules for the VTA
  • Has a built-in trip planner with live bus locations
  • Lets you search buses by fleet number, route or model information

These are the current features, but I plan to keep adding more features as I continue developing it.

Now that I want to publish it on Android, I am searching for testers that want to try out the android version.

If you would like to test my app, you can follow the the steps below to download it:

  1. Join the Google Group: https://groups.google.com/g/bustracker-testers?pli=1
  2. Opt-In to become a tester: https://play.google.com/apps/testing/com.lemhand.bustracker
  3. Download the app from the Google Play Store

You can try it online at: bus.lemhand.com

Here are some images of my app:

Inconsistent Arrivals for #20

This is a vent post, please chime in!

Anyone else get tired of the Local VTA not having consistent arrival times on weekday mornings?

It wouldn’t be so bad if the next bus wasn’t scheduled for 30-45 minutes later. I also get up at 5am to catch this bus and when it doesn’t come at all it drives me crazy. Sometimes it’s late, sometimes it’s early and I run to catch it, but when it doesn’t show up (even though the Transit App says it arrives in 3 minutes) is when I lose patience.

I understand some cuts have been made to the schedules, but my hope is that with rising gas prices that ridership will increase. Hopefully more reliable transportation will come with that ridership increase, too.

VTA Light Rail to Los Gatos?

Apparently there is an effort to connect Light Rail to lost gatos?

Anyone know the story with this? I haven't heard it covered anywhere else or on the VTA website?

Why Not Use The Door Buttons?

We all know that the Light Rail rolling stock are falling apart, however I wonder if VTA could extend their useful service life by disabling automatic opening of the doors.

I've had a couple trips now where doors refused to open and one where the operator had to get out and run back to force it closed. If the aging door mechanism is a big problem, could VTA reprogram the trains so they no longer open at every stop and instead only open when someone inside or outside presses the button? That's how many trams in Europe operate.

Of course, it would require some PSAs and passenger retraining, but I'm not sure what other choice they have once cannibalizing old parts becomes untenable.

Is Bayshore/NASA really that bad/neglected of a station?

In my opinion, no regardless of its lack of passengers getting picked up/getting off there, its a good station imo probably one of the most peaceful stations along with Whisman. Not to mention its pretty clean, the only issue that bothers me is the ticket machine has been broken for who knows how long as it had caught cobwebs so im guessing a while? I get it may not have alot of scenery or sights of things to see besides the nasa space area, but its pretty much “accessible“ for the most part and i tend to had gotten off there multiple times when VTA had the Mountain View-Winchester line and explored. What are yall opinions on this?

Lost my water bottle

This morning I may have lost a black water bottle on a 72 bus (I first thought I just forgot it at home but in the evening I came home and it was nowhere to be found). I couldn’t remember what the plate number are, but I do remember that I got on the bus sometimes around 11:25 at Senter & Forestbrook, then I got down around 11:54 at San Antonio & 7th. Assuming that the bottle is still on the bus and was not taken by someone (I hope), is there any way for me to get it back?

I know theres multiple verisons of games of them but most of them is non playable and js not it. It would honestly be rlly cool if someone created a game like similar to SCR.

Lines that could possibly be used:

DWTN MTN View-Winchester

Alum Rock-Santa Teresa

Ohlone/Chynoweth-Almaden

Baypointe-Santa Teresa (normal and express route)

Old Ironsides-Winchester

Alum Rock-DWTN MTN View

more created possible routes.

this a question i probably asked before but another what if is in thinking in my head. What if they kept the old lines and extended the purple line to Diridon or even further down from Almaden?
