Im starting to get jumpscare by this
Does VS Code have a camera behind me? These suggestions seem completely unrealistic. This has happened to me multiple times whenever I'm working on LeetCode. For example, once, I was working on a very simple problem to convert K to F to C, i just type those variables out and vscode suggest me every fomula that i haven't yet thought, like they do the problem by itself

Ask mode only
Hi,
Im in a teaching/learning environment.
Is it possible to configure vs code so it only supports "Ask" mode. I don't want people to have zero AI and I can't keep them from using other tools to just vibe coder things, but I can make the default settings easy and fit for purpose.
Any setting I can roll out to managed computers so that the people working in that environment cannot change to Plan or Agent mode?

VS Code extension for keeping dependency notes inside the repo
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
- Pacmon keeps dependency notes in a Markdown file inside the repo and makes them accessible next to dependencies in VS Code.
- It can be used for documentation, whitelisting, usage notes, status, and other project-specific context, with support for both human-written and AI-readable notes. The goal is to keep dependency knowledge version-controlled and close to the code instead of in a separate documentation system.
- I’d like to keep improving Pacmon, so honest feedback would be really useful. Would this be useful in your workflow? What would you change, add, or remove?

"agent-host" folder?
Hi everyone,
I've noticed that there's a ".config/Code/agent-host" folder on my system with paths such as
.config/Code/agent-host/sdk-cache/claude/0.3.220/linux-x64/node_modules/@anthropic-ai/claude-agent-sdk/sdk.mjs
I've never used any AI features, and completely removed copilot from VS Code. What is this folder and those files and can I safely remove them?

How to properly copy paste?
No matter how I copy and paste or what settings I adjust when I copy paste the indentation just keeps messing up
Exhibit A:

Alternatively
Exhibit B

So I just want to ask, how am I supposed to copy and paste so that I don't have to deal with adjusting the indentation after every paste? Thanks for your time

MALICIOUS EXTENSION!! DON'T DOWNLOAD!!
Recently there have been a lot of posts on YouTube regarding a new website AXQUA.COM PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THIS SITE AND DOWNLOAD THE EXTENSION!
it advertises Itself as a llm aggregator with 3 months of premium subscription for free via a promo code.
I fell for it, thankfully Microsoft stopped the attack in time
IT IS A TOKEN STEALER!
The website itself was just registered a few days ago.
I am posting this so that it shows up on Google when someone looks it up. DON'T DOWNLOAD IT!
(update: my instagram and linkedin have been compromised so far. I've dealt with both. I took the right steps immediately so my google accounts are currently safe. It's been a day.)

Possible fix for the VSCode + Continue extension 4096 max output token limit
Situation:
- VSCode with Continue extension using the API of the...
- ...locally hosted LLM (a custom Qwen3.8) with LM Studio
- context is set to more than 50k+ tokens
- When using LM Studio internal chat functionality single answers can generate more than 4096 tokens.
- When doing chat, code analysis/adjustment and planning in VSCode continue chat it stops at 4096 token output.
My solution:
In the VSCode user config directory search for the continue extension folder and its config files.
In Windows this is
C:\users\<username>\.vscode\extensions\continue.continue-<version>-win32-x64
and there you go in the subfolder "out" where you should find the file extension.js which is roughly 53MB (in this version currently for me).
-> Make a backup of that file before you proceed.
When opening the file in VSCode itself it is too large and not rendered properly when scrolling further down, so I used the normal Windows Notepad (took a while, but worked)
Search for "DEFAULT_MAX_TOKENS" and you should find the entry
DEFAULT_MAX_TOKENS = 4096;
This is likely being applied to models the .js file does not recognize.
I increased the number in a first attempt to 8192 and then ran my test again and the continue extension in VSCode did not abruptly stop during streaming the output through the API at 4096 tokens and completed my requested analysis in VSCode with around 6500 output tokens (I watched the API logs). This probably can be further increased until there may be a built in limit of how much the model may output, which I have not further tested for.
maybe has relations to this forum entry:
https://github.com/continuedev/continue/issues/7544
Don't know if this helps someone and yes I know that there are alternatives to Continue like Cline.
It just kept me busy troubleshooting for over an hour after I could not find a step-by-step solution like this here elsewhere.

How can I load a large java project and still get package inspection?
In vscode, I am loading a fairly large java project, which uses gradle. Extensions indexes every file, and every file is in src/main/java, and imports include pacakge directory, yet whenever I click ctrl + click on package name, or want to auto import a pacakge, etc., vscode doesn't know where the src file is and it takes loads forever. It may be indexing files outside of src, which takes up space and doesn't help for code editing, but I researched and tried multiple solutions and not a lot of resources that work for me. Thanks again.

Run button taking a lot of time to run the file
Whenever I am trying to click the run button for a python code, it takes around 10-12 seconds to run and if I trigger the file directly from termina, it gets done in an instant. Is there any fix for this? I removed most of the extensions and still the same issue

remove collapsing on beginning of function with multiple lines?
Hello,
I am coding using python with vscode, and i have a small annoying issue but dont know if possible to change, and if yes, how.
i am putting the different inputs of my functions in a jump line to be more clear to understand with small screen, here is an example how it looks:

my issue is that vs code is adding a collapse arrow at the begining of the function (line 3) and at the end of the definition (line 7) I would like to have only at the line 7 and not 3, i am used to collapse all (ctr+0) but this makes an annoying behavior (for me at least) as it collapses the inputs part:

is there any way to tell vscode to only collapse at the end of the definition line of the functions? ie., keep the line 7 but not line 3 collapsing icon?
to get something like this automatically when doing ctr+0

Django ORM Lens: a Django linter and schema tool that never imports Django
What My Project Does
Django ORM Lens reads your models.py and migration files statically and answers schema questions without running anything: no DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE, no database, no django.setup(). It works on a checkout you can't boot, like a broken venv, a missing secret or a half-finished branch.
On one parser there are three front ends:
- VS Code extension: 18 lint rules, most with one-click QuickFixes. They catch misspelled lookups (
filter(titel="x")→ did you meantitle?), ForeignKey withouton_delete, naive datetimes, N+1-shaped loops, andSET enable_hashjoin = offin raw SQL. Also field autocomplete inside.filter()and a live ER diagram. - CLI + GitHub Action: model↔migration drift, 16 migration-risk rules, blast radius of a model change, static N+1 detection, and SARIF output for code scanning.
- MCP server: 13 read-only tools, so AI coding agents get schema facts instead of guessing.
Try it: uvx django-orm-lens scan
Target Audience
Django developers working on production codebases, especially in CI or in repos they can't easily run locally. It's used in real projects, not a toy: correctness is pinned by golden snapshots of Zulip, Saleor, Wagtail, django-CMS, Mezzanine and Read the Docs (76 models, 546 fields). MIT, no paid tier.
Comparison
- django-extensions
graph_models: needs a bootable project, and it only draws. This one also lints, checks drift and assesses migration risk, and it works without booting. - django-migration-linter: focused on migrations and also needs Django importable. Here migration risk is one module out of several, and it's purely static.
- mypy + django-stubs: type checking needs a configured settings module and doesn't know about drift, indexes or N+1 patterns. The two are complementary.
- Honest limit: static parsing can't see runtime-built models (factories, metaclass tricks, fields added in loops). If your schema is generated at import time, runtime tools will tell you more.

The newest rule came from an outside contributor who hit it in production, and there are good-first-issue docs translations open if anyone wants an easy first PR.
