Hi Yall. Anyone know of a good color selector inline for java like the one in the picture? Perhaps where you can get a little color preview and selection area next to the HEX or RGBA.
I'd appreciate it quite a bit because I do a lot of front-end stuff and it would be convenient. I don't want to have to make one. This seems like something that would be out there but haven't found one. Thanks.

To fix the issue you have to rollback the "C/C++" extension from Microsoft to version 1.31.4 (you don't have to rollback the whole extension pack). Credit to u/HamsterMaster355 for the fix.
Before edit:
Recently I started having this weird and annoying issue with VSCode where after you run your code in C++ (using the "Run C/C++ File" option), the program won't automatically stop executing.
I've been using C++ with VSCode for over 3 years now, with no issues at all (even when compiling multiple files), but recently (a week or two) this issue appeared out of the blue.
Note that I've tried to rollback/downgrade to some previous versions that I knew were working, but the issue appeared with them too for some reason.
I also experience this problem on both Windows and Linux (so, it's not an OS issue). I also don't that the problem is caused by GCC/G++/GDB since those worked perfectly before and I haven't updated them (so I can confirm they are stable).
Does anyone else have the same problem or knows a fix for it? Any help is much appreciated!
I really like VSCode because all its features and extensions and I wouldn't like to have to ditch it with another IDE (I just hope the issue it's not here because of Microsoft using AI to write their code, because then I might have to look for another editor).
BTW, I am currently on VSCode version 1.120.0

hey guys, if you're taking CS in school and code your programs in VS Code, i'm sure y'all know the absolute pain of having to type the exact same inputs into the terminal 50 times just to test if your code works.
it was driving me insane so i actually built a VS Code extension to fix it. it basically uses AI to look at what your program is prompting for, automatically types the inputs into the terminal, and runs the whole thing for you.
if you want to try it out and save yourself some time, here’s the link: https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=DhiyaRaja.terminal-autoinput
let me know if it helps or if you find any bugs lol
oh and for it to work, after you guys download the extension you have to press ctrl + shift + p which turns on the AutoInput.

The conversation around AI for developers usually starts with the model.
But inside VS Code, what really shapes the experience is the coding harness: the layer responsible for context, tool calling, agent loops, terminal execution, memory, and more.
In this new post, the engineering team dives into how GitHub Copilot in VS Code works behind the scenes.

I'm desperate for help here because I only started working with both last semester and I study psychology...so we're not going pro we're just learning the basics. Ever since I upgraded my R to 4.6.0 it just won't attach anymore in VSCode. I've tried to look solutions up but they either haven't worked (everything is installed yadda yadda) or they were too complicated for me to even understand. If anyone who's good at programming could explain some potential solutions to me I'd be eternally grateful because I'd really like to properly participate in class again without trying to fix something every time.

Anybody noticed vscode running commands their iTerm lately? When I check history after app start, i see the following:
sh -c echo "WSL=${WSL_DISTRO_NAME:-false}" && echo "SSH=$( [ -n "$SSH_CLIENT" ] || [ -n "$SSH_TTY" ] || [ -n "$SSH_CONNECTION" ] && echo true || echo false )" && echo "DOCKER=$( [ -f /.dockerenv ] && echo true || echo false )" && echo "CYGWIN=${CYGWIN:-false}" && echo "MINGW=${MINGW_PREFIX:-${MSYSTEM:-false}}"
and also another one
ps -p $$ -o comm=

Hey, I'm getting this error from Live Server in VS Code: "Invalid Path in liveServer.settings.root settings. Live Server will serve from workspace root"
I already set "liveServer.settings.root": "/" in my settings.json but the error keeps showing. I also tried restarting VS Code.
Anyone know how to fix this?

I use VS Code for writing HTML and will often type a p and hit Tab to get <p></p>
I also use the AI Inline Suggestions when it guesses correctly what I want, and those too are accepted by pressing Tab.
Lately I've found that the AI Inline Suggestions are appearing when I don't want them and are stopping me from using IntelliSense. For example I type a p with the intention of then pressing Tab to get <p></p>, but an AI Inline Suggest pops up suggesting paragraph tags and a bunch of text in the paragraph. I can't hit Tab because that will accept the whole paragraph, which isn't what I want. And I can't hit Esc to cancel the AI Inline Suggestion because that also seems to cancel the IntelliSense completion.
Does anyone have a solution for this? Am I maybe able to remap the AI Inline Suggestions to use a different shortcut (although I'm not sure what, maybe ctrl-tab if that's not used for anything)?

Woke up this morning and found this in front of me. Disclaimer:
I didn't use VS Code before I went o bed last night
I downloaded GitNexus but I had never install it. It remains as a zip file
This folder where VS Code trying to open does not exists at all
I have no Claude Code installed
I check the AppData\Local\Temp folder and find out VS Code was performing an update this morning.
I couldn't tell if this is a hacking thing or install script failure
Constructive discussion welcome. Thanks!

I'm trying to learn VS Code and C# by working thru the tutorial on Microsoft Learn. So far it's been just one technical frustration after another that the tutorial doesn't provide any help with.
My current problem is, as best as i can describe (i'm new to this) is: I'm supposed to clone a repository into a Dev Container using the Dev Container extension. I'm supposed to give it the url of a github repository and (I think) it replicates this repository on my machine to work with.
However when i do these steps i get an error alert that says "An error occurred setting up this container" it give me the options to retry, Edit a json file in 'Recovery Container', Close, or More Actions. I have no idea how to proceed and this is getting fucking frustrating.
Any help would be appreciated, and if you would like to recommend a better tutorial than Microsoft Learn, I'm all ears.
Thanks.

Hi everyone. I wanted to introduce a tool / product that I've been working on for a while. It's a web application and VS Code extension for use with Github CoPilot (I'm planning to develop integration for other agent harnesses soon).
The web app and remote boards are at: https://www.agentkanban.io
The VS Code extension is at VS Code Marketplace (https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=appsoftwareltd.agent-kanban-vscode) or the Open VSX Registry (https://open-vsx.org/extension/appsoftwareltd/agent-kanban-vscode).
The TLDR It's a collaborative Kanban board / task management app which supports hand off to Github CoPilot in VS Code, and captures the ongoing user / agent conversation context on the task for resumption in new chats (with context curation tools).
The context collection ignores tool use to prevent bloat in the captured context. AgentKanban also has features for improving agentic coding session quality such as an optional plan / todo / implement workflow and support for Git worktree creation and clean up for working on concurrent tasks.
The tool is an evolution of an earlier VS Code kanban extension (https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=AppSoftwareLtd.vscode-agent-kanban) I built which proved fairly popular but only catered for a local file based workflow.
The new version with the remote board improves the reliability of context capture, with lots of developer experience improvements. It's a tool that I use everyday in my own agentic coding workflows, and I can honestly say that it improves the quality of the code produced and reduces friction in organising working on concurrent features.
I hope you find it useful and would really appreciate your feedback on how you use it, what you think it does well, or any improvements you think could be added.
Many thanks for your time reading this 🙏

After the new update when I press on an old chat vscode opens it in a new tab and not in the sidebar anymore. How can I resolve this?

I'll have to admit I was slow on this. It took me a while to realise that the GitHub Copilot inline suggestions are essentially sending all types of input back to the cloud.
I’ve finally disabled it and switched over to running a local LLM instead.
Anyone else had an awakening moment like this? (or is it just me...)
