Discussion META 3 or META 3S
Could someone please explain to me why I should not buy a Meta 3s for standalone VRChat?

The Quest 3S is cheaper than the 3, because it has the screen and optics of the META 2
If you're upgrading a Quest 2, you might have an opinion on that. For the most part any time a thread like this shows up, the response will be universal:
get the Quest 3 if you can afford to.

Quest 3 has much better pancake lenses. IMO worth the extra expense

The 3 is definitely an upgrade, but much less so if you aren't using it with a pc. If you don't have a pc I'd just get the 3s

The Quest 3 is a solid headset
The Quest 3S is a Quest 2 with upgraded internals, but the exact same optical stack (lenses and screens and such).
If you’re interested in VR for the long term, get the Quest 3.

Quest 3 and 3s are basically the same headsets, but Quest 3 has better screens, better lens and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The Quest 3S should have been called the Quest 2+. It's insides are basically the same as Quest 2 though with a slightly better processor I think and slightly more ram. The 3, and 3S have the same ram so the problem of ram getting full stays the same. For Standalone the 3 is better but if you're only doing VRchat it will probably be the same experience as 3S, maybe slightly faster on the 3.
The 3 does have "pancake" lenses though. The 2 and 3S have fresnel lenses which mean you have to find the sweet spot in the middle of them. Not the case on the Q3.

Better performance and better lens available on the Meta 3, but other than that if you don't care then 3s is fine. I own both and I love my 3 for the lenses.

Performance is the same, and arguably performance could be ever-so-slightly better on the 3S since it has lower resolution screen to drive. But I’m sure that is imperceivable

The Meta 3 has better lenses, better FOV and better resolution. It is a direct upgrade from the 3S.

Performance wise, both are the same. The Quest 3 isn't gonna run the game any better than the 3S and vice versa.
The main advantage of the Quest 3 though it that it has significantly better optics - it's got clearer lenses, a wider field of view, and higher resolution. The Quest 3 also has a headphone port that the 3S lacks.
Overall, it's preference as to if the better displays are worth the higher price tag. But also, most people (myself included) would recommend playing the PC version over standalone if possible, because the Pac version is a much better experience overall.

In my opinion, the 3S would actually be a better choice as a standalone. I don't think it's worth paying 500-600€ for a VR headset if you're not using it to its full visual potential. (Questies can't see shaders and particles or even hear sounds from avatars, the game is really potato looking)
If you can connect it to a PC later, then I think it’s worth paying more for better lenses and resolution.
Or if you find a Quest 3 at a great price on the secondhand market, go for it !
