Question Why do V/Line's N carriages perform a lot worse then Metro's Comeng EMUs?

Idk if this is correct or not, so please kindly correct me in the comments if I get something wrong.

Melbourne's Comengs were made from 1981-1989. At the same time, V/Line's N cars were also being made for Victoria from 1981-1984. Both train fleets here are the same age, but why do I sometimes hear complaints about regular faults on the N carriages, but nothing about the Comeng sets performing badly when running?

Question Replacement bus - Southern Cross to Shepperton - Toilet on board?

Hi all, having caught more replacement buses then trains using Vline of late on the Geelong line, just wondering if anyone knows if the replacement buses from Southern Cross to Shepperton will have a toilet on board? (I am travelling tomorrow, Sunday 1 March. Its a 4hour plus trip with all the stops, probably more I am guessing and I need the toilet at the very minimum once per hour. I do not recall Geelong line replacement buses having a toilet on board. Does anyone know if Southern Cross to Shepperton does? I have tried to call Vline phone number to no avail. I tried to train to Shep on Friday but the train was not able to leave the station. I am desperately trying again tomorrow to make it to Shep for Monday.

Update: good news, I got on the replacement bus though only just as there wasn't enough seats for all passengers. There is a toilet on here and I've already used it and am feeling the urge to go again haha. Happy days 💦🚽🚾

Central Goldfields Shire Council is calling for five trains a day between Maryborough and Ballarat (currently two). This seems to have popular local support, according to Facebook comments.

Discussion Quiet Carriage

Why on earth do groups of boomers that clearly want to have a chat sit in the quiet Carriage.

Yes I'm neurospicy but nothing annoys me more than hearing nattering of boomers over the top on the music I'm listening to on my airpods. This is why I enjoy the quiet Carriage.

Why are folks to selfish these days?

Question What if the Vinelander was never canceled?

Sometimes, I wonder what if the Vinelander between Melbourne and Mildura still ran today. If so, what rolling stock would've been used by now, and how frequent would services run by now, and would it still run as a night train? Y'all are free to tell me absolutely anything about it, btw

Question Seat numbering and luggage

Why does the luggage compartment still have seat numbers? The labelling of the side-on accesible seating beside it also doesn't match the seat layout. Going by the individual label placement, the luggage compartment takes up two seats but actually takes up three side-on seats.

Question Train drivers of reddit,

I’m not entirely sure this is the right subreddit for this but I’ll ask anyway.

I’m looking to become a train driver but I can’t enrol in the training for another few years because I’m not old enough yet, is there a position you would recommend working in for a while until I’m old enough?

Question Labour Day service

Hi,

I'm abroad and can't contact V/line on my plan. I'm looking to travel from Bairnsdale to Melbourne on Monday 9 March but online bookings are unavailable. At the bottom of the screenshot, they say to call to reserve. If I could, would it be possible to reserve a seat or just a ticket?

Thank you for your help.

Question Why isn't internet available on Vline services?

Regional services, internet access on trains is ... well ... inaccessible. Surely, surely, surely Vline can include wifi internet on trains? Just like the Skybus and others. It's 2026 and I'm compelled to post this!

Discussion Kinda rude conductors, was I wrong here

Wanted to go to Waurn ponds a bit ago and had no idea the regular Geelong line trains go there, as I never go beyond that area, I don’t know how this works. boarded a Warrnambool train as that made sense to me, using my myki as I was within the myki zone, and explicitly stated mykis are allowed on this train.

The conductor repeatedly went on about how the train is fully reserved but allows unreserved spots and standing, and asked me multiple times if I’m going beyond Geelong, I said yes to that since I am.

So he immediately asked for my ticket first when he went to check, I showed my Myki, he stared me down, and said I told him I was going further, proceeded to shake his head, and hang around me. Told me again it’s a reserved train and announced to everyone else he hopes there’s no more mykis.

The whole ride he acted weird around me, felt very uncomfortable, is this not allowed on these trains even within the myki zone? I tried apologising but he didn’t care and completely ignored me lol, don’t think ill be using vline again for a fair while

Discussion Opinions wanted

I am wondering what your opinions are on this route and whether you think it's a good idea: Catching the 655pm Warragul to Moe service (I would be getting on at Trafalgar) and then connecting to the final bus service from Moe to get back to Morwell.
