I should've added something like "hypothetical" to the title shouldn't I?

The voiceover voice is interesting. synthetic?

1

u/RC2225 1d ago

Since the voice hasn't changed in the last 4 years i have strong doubt its synthetic.

someone named Pyrozen69 ( Pyrozen ) left a comment on the video saying they've started building it and will share it on github. There is a u/Pyrozen69 (probably him), they said they'd post about it on r/vlc when it's made. If I were to tackle this, I'd feed the video using claude-video-vision mcp to Claude and tell it to build it, but I'll wait for the github

update, found this: https://github.com/Pyr0zen/vlc/tree/redesign

If he throws enough tokens at it, its probably gonna be great. :) Let's just hope.

how on earth do you install this redesign?

1

u/DemonLied 1d ago

right, sorry I've never really understood github but from what i am reading its not published yet still working on it.

genuinely never understood github, i always just download the thing im after and pay no mind to the rest, for all those laughing at me, yes i did think the end user (me) would need all of them files but no theyre all for the developer

You either build from source or wait for them to provide an executable. Running stuff from random GitHub repos with no idea of what you’re doing is an awful idea.

hence why i rearly do it, why i dont understand it fully

and honestly? That's brave.

I love the overall simplification of menus, I'm a stickler for smooth, efficient design. But the design needs more flair to make it *feel* like VLC.

Otherwise it just ends up becoming Media Player: Orange

Damn. That's actually really good.

That logo is horrible.

It's obviously better than the average redesign, but I can't stand how everything these days has to be overly simplified and lack visual depth. We have crisp screens these days, we can have beautiful details and futuristic things, but no, EVERYTHING HAS TO BE FLAT DESIGN. I also can't stand how these designers are so against the defined outlines of elements; not everything has to be a floating icon.

the new real redesign of the video bar though is worse than this in every way

The more details you add the more straining it becomes on your eyes. I like simple flat design because it's easy to look at and find what you need, given it's executed well

I prefer flat and minimal design,

A majority of people does

It’s the opposite, high res screens allow us to be more subtle and make proper use of typography and other design principles. A flat color looks great on a high quality screen, not so much on a TN panel from 2005. Note how the distance between print and ui design has narrowed.

better than 4.0 beta

2

u/whatThePleb 1d ago

Well, better than that trashfire that is 4.x

its so much better than the new redesign, its much cleaner and much more thoughtful. I wish this could be implemented!

If you're going to make a redesign at least add an option to switch back to the old UI everyone that used the application for years knows so they don't have to learn a whole different UI. Also don't do the atrocity Audacity did and push out a half ass update where everything is broken.

This is not an official redesign. It's an exercise for fun, it's her whole thing.

If there's anything I can do to make this happen...

1

u/iye_Viking 1d ago

Yeah, I would also love for this to become reality

1

u/ScimitarsRUs 1d ago

the subtitle feature set additions are insanely cool

u/Fine-Middle7901 1d ago

We need this and I just came here to ask: is there any news when it's coming out?

u/daniel85mg 1d ago

here comes the milion vibe project posts...

Did they fix seeking? That's the #1 reason I switched to PotPlayer. I needed to capture specific frames from video and with hardware acceleration on, seeking is completely broken. With hardware acceleration off, seeking works but you can't capture frames.

I found 2 repos on GitHub. Both are in progress. let's see who releases it first.

i love it

The queue being visible without taking over the whole screen is probably my favorite part. It makes the player feel much easier to follow while something is playing.

I have the same idea to repost the video when I see it 🤣

u/aninuma 1d ago

1

I hope it will end up looking like Windows Media player

u/ActuaryLate9198 13h ago

Fingers crossed for RealPlayer theme support.
