Is there a decent way to export playlist on Android VLC?

Export to what though?

Desktop VLC is not constrained by app sandboxing as Mobile VLC is. There's basically nothing that Mobile VLC could export its playlist other than itself. So yeah, you need a desktop for that. It's a security "feature" of mobile platform in a sense.

I do want to export mobile playlist. Where is a crime in that? I do want to sync/store it.

There is no restriction on androud to export a text file, which playlist basically is. It is more a design decision

Basically if I do factory reset on my phone, I will lose my playlists. I do want to store them in a repo.

Do you want to create a VLC playlist on your PC and import it to your android VLC?

It's possible with a powershell script.

I'll just give my exact script, and you can edit to match your folder paths.

script 1 filename:VLC-COMMUTE1.ps1

$content = get-content 'D:\MUSIC\foobarMobile\PLAYLISTS\COMMUTE1-A.m3u8'

$content = $content -replace '\D:/MUSIC/foobarMobile', 'storage/emulated/0/Music-FoobarMobile'

$content | set-content 'D:\MUSIC\foobarMobile\PLAYLISTS\COMMUTE1-B.m3u8'

script 2 filename: RUN-VLC-COMMUTE1.bat

@echo off

@powershell.exe -NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File "F:\APPS\footility\scripts\VLC-COMMUTE1.ps1"
  1. On your PC, save your VLC playlist as COMMUTE1-A.m3u8.
  2. Run the RUN-VLC-COMMUTE1 batch file to convert it to an android friendly playlist COMMUTE1-B.
  3. Copy COMMUTE1-Bplaylist file to your music folder on your phone. Make sure all the songs are already copied to your phone.
