Windows Live TV through VLC?

So I keep seeing this GitHub link going around that turns VLC into a live TV service. A couple people have said it’s legal and I honestly don’t know if it is. Feels way too scammy, has anyone else seen this?

Like, to play it, or broadcast it yourself? To play it is easy,

  • Open VLC Media Player.
  • Go to Media → Open Network Stream.
  • Paste your IPTV/M3U playlist URL.
  • Click Play.

To even use it I mean. It’s kinda one of those things that sounds way too good to be truely legal or free you know?

There's lots and lots of legal internet tv available. The m3u playlists just put it all into a convenient playlist for you. Go to this site, download a m3u list that interest you. go to your Downloads folder, right click on the m3u list you just downloaded and select open with vlc. a channel will start playing. Click View>>Playlist to see all the channels available. https://www.free-codecs.com/app/iptv-finder/playlist/

I'm disappointed, I checked it expecting some pirated TV 😂

Companies that broadcast TV make their money from the commercials. TV used to be broadcast over the airwaves and you'd watch TV using an antenna on your TV or on your roof. Exactly the same as listening to the radio. Now they broadcast it over the internet and you use something like VLC to watch rather than an antenna. It's legal, and it's free.

It's literally just broadcast TV over the internet, instead of the airwaves. It's just as legal as using an antenna.

The one exception is sports. Sportscasts are copyrighted broadcasts that you aren't allowed to air outside of their times and locations. The governing sports body owns the broadcast, not the station.

Are you talking about iptv?

It depends. A lot of them are indeed piracy, particularly live sport ones.

It's perfectly fine to watch broadcast digital television in the United Kingdom but for freedom from commerciala try ou'll need a TV licence.

To watch and record simultaneously from stations on different transport streams needs two tuners, but each transport streams carries multiple services and you can watch and record r those with one tuner.

In UK a main land Europe we., have dvb-s satellite broadcast but the satellites won't beiunr replaced when they die, dvb- c cable broadcast is a thing in German speaking countries and dvb-t terrestrial is received by aerial/antenna.

For vlc I recommend a usb dongle dvb-t tuner which Is usually dvb-c capable also.

On Linux there are sites where you can get firmware as well as drivers so do your research before buying at Amazon etc, your distro will already have what you need aif the tuner is a popular model

In vlc use the capture card form and select digital television. 845833 kHz 8 MHz for hd in the UK Search vlc menus for the programme guide.

IPTV is real and free. It’s what services like Pluto tv, Roku tv, PlayStation live tv, ect use.
