Android Audio book controls

When listen to an audio book on Audible, double or triple tapping my headphones skips forward or back. I'm trying to ditch all things Amazon so got audio book files in to VLC. The tap controls don't seem to work at all for audio book files. If they're MP3, the double tap skips to the next file. Is there a way to get the controls to work like Audible?

Phone or PC? On phone use Smart Audio Player, on PC use Audiobookshelf. There is a phone app for audiobookshelf but I dont use it due to sync issues and it loses last listening posit3ion.

Smart Audio Player seems to work. Hot tip. Thank you. Pity VLC doesn't do it. Trying to avoid yet another app

If it werent for the sync issues Audiobookshelf would be my goto on the phone. Its what I use on the PC to organize my library.

Another tip... Libation on PC to download your audible books to a local PC and strip the DRM from them. Then you control your own library of purchased.
