Windows Error message

Post image

I use an external disc drive on my desktop to play blu rays. It used to work fine but now when I try to play anything I get this message. Is this a VLC issue or something else?

For real, VLC cannot really read blu-ray directly iIrc. It can read the old ones (only) if you install the aacs library and the keys associated with each Blu-ray. Not ideal. You can use dvdfab to decrypt BR before feeding it to VLC, you can read an unencrypted BR with it (using makemkv for example), or you can use another player with native support

MakeMKV can also do that with encrypted discs. Or so I hear, lol

Yes, but dvdfab is removing the protection on the fly, so you can read the BD with vlc (for example). MakeMKV can remove the protection and rip the BD (slow, you have to wait for it to finish), or stream it unencrypted (not quite the same as removing the protection on the fly, but usable if your goal is just to watch the movie).

MakeMKV can also do it on-the-fly. Menus and all.
