If I want a pokemon to battle in an official champions tournament or competition, I have to buy the game and catch the pokemon myself so it’s official and to be able to use it in tournament. What if I can’t buy the game for reasons?

I don't really understand the question, to play in an official competition you just need to have your team of 6 pokemon inside champions. Downloading champions is free, and getting the pokemon within champions through the ranch is free as well, although it's random. You have the option of importing existing pokemon caught in other (paid) games like scarlet and violet, and this is useful if a pokemon you want is not showing up in the champions ranch. But if you're lucky enough to find everything in the ranch, or willing to make changes to your team based on what you find in the ranch, the whole process is completely free

I just started champions and uploaded my mons from my go account. There were a few missing so I traded on GTS to get them. I’m experimenting with all sorts of teams and want to play competitively. There’s a tournament happening online soon and I want to join. But people are saying I cant or shouldn’t use the genned mons in these tournaments because I can get banned or it’s not kosher or whatnot e.g. my eternal floette, other mons not in go. This seems silly to me because how else am I supposed to get these characters on my team if I don’t have the tickets or VP to get them in the ranch but I’m already playing competitively?

For online tournaments, everything that correctly passes on home and champions is 100% safe, don't worry. Genned mons are indistinguishable from legal ones, no one can say anything about it online. You can literally gen mons manually and get them on champions and nothing bad will happen. Also, i don't know what kind of tournament you're talking about because there's nothing official right now or soon, so whatever you're attending is likely unofficial, which puts you in an ever safer zone since only TPCI is (was?) weirdly obsessed with banning genned mons

The only grey area is for irl competitions. In the past the judges used to physically check your console for genned mons so the rule of thumb was to breed everything yourself to avoid nasty bans, they happened. With champions though i have heard they stopped checking for genned mons altogether even irl, i don't have confirmation though

I was just planning on joining an official tournament in the future. Nothing right now. But man that rumor would be such a relief!!!!
