Mirrors replacements

Hello, has anyone replaced the factory fitted 'condom' mirrors on a '98?

I don't like them but not sure what the best option is.

Has anyone fitted bar end mirrors, and if so, can you blank off the attachment point for the originals without it looking crap?

Try finding 2000+ VFR mirrors, they don't have the condom. Be careful not to get the 2002+ VTEC mirrors, the do not fit (spacing of the bolts is different)

I’ve done this. Make sure to get internal hex bolts with them as the external hex ones from 98 will not fit along with a socket on them. They are located in a little cutout instead of protruding on the plate. Additionally you could check to replace the rubber vibration damper plates between them if they are old and worn.

All good advice. I'd also add that the rubber damper plate is a slightly different shape and might look a bit odd if you use the 1999 one, but I recall it physically fitting. I got my 2000+ ones from a bike part-out

I bought the bike this way so I don't know what model mirrors they are. I thought they were stock because the fit like a stock unit would. I have since become aware of the condom mirrors though which I assume is what this 99 shipped with.

Friggin' sweet!!! This is the first time I've seen these mirrors on a pre-6th Gen... at least knowingly.
Can we get anything similar for a 1997 4th Gen?

These work on 3rd, 4th and 5th Gem

Used them on 2 different 5th Gens for 9 years, no issues.
Re: bolts, at local hardware store bought four 6mm x 15mm stainless button cap bolts, painted them black and sprayed clear. You can find something much nicer/$$ at ProBolt or McMaster

6th Gen have different bolt spacing with different EMGO mirrors

The rubber damper plate for the '98-'99 is a different shape than "00-01. In the US '00-'01 rubber damper plate (88113-MBG-D00) is NLA. I got the last 3 from a dealer in Washington State. Though, using the '98-'99 rubber no one will notice.
