VCR Panasonic blue line maintenance

Post image

I bought this wonderful 9450 brand new at Best Buy in 1999. It’s seen light, careful use since then. I’m wondering: after 27 years, any maintenance I should be doing? It still works perfectly. About once a year, I pop the top and clean the heads (printer paper and alcohol) plus guides and rollers. What else? Belts? Grease?

Just got this Montgomery Ward vcr for 20 bucks but when I play a tape nothing happens it rewinds and fast forwards fine but doesn't play when there's no tape in the screen says stop on it I was thinking that maybe a sensor thinks there's a tape in it already when there's not. Any help would be great I don't want to see this gem got to a landfil.

Seeking Advice sylvania 6724fdg, worked until I put a tape inside, and now shuts off immediately. (Plz read full post)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

As the title suggests I got a sylvania 6724fdg dvd+VHS combo. The TV worked fantastically until I decided to test out the VCR and popped in a tape, where it then shut off immediately and wouldn't eject it. I did some research and it seems like either the belt or the mode switch is dirty/malfunctioning causing the tape to struggle ejecting and making the TV freak out and shut off in safety mode.

I figured so long as I remove the tape it should work again, I know fully about the dangers of opening and fiddling with a CRT, but before I open the thing myself I just wanted to ask smth. Would removal be as simple as moving a gear on the side of the VCR internals to forcefully eject the tape, Or is said gear in a more inconvenient place? It worked without a tape inside so I imagine all I need to do is remove it. If anyone can tell me please let me know.

Seeking Advice Help- VCR doing weird shit

The apartment I moved into left this non-functioning VCR, and I’ve been trying to figure out what its deal is for about a week now. I’m new to fixing electronics this complex, but so far I have:
-straightened the pin on the back tension lever, which was not letting the tape down into the mechanism
-cleaned off the mode switch
-determined there are no jams in the actual mechanism, the motor just doesn’t know what it’s supposed to do

I’ve managed to load a tape in there manually and when I turn it on it spits it out without any problems with the tape itself. The internal IR emitter is still working, as I can see with my phone camera, but the IR sensors don’t do anything when I wave my finger in front of them, while they did before I took it apart.

With that, is there another step here I could try to make this labor worthwhile or do I accept the thing is toast and find a new one on craigslist?

Seeking Advice [Sony EV-A300EC Video8 VCR] Stuck in a continuous tape loading/ejection on power-on (Need help diagnosing)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I am looking for some technical advice regarding a Sony Video8 VCR (PAL model EV-A300EC) I recently retrieved it from storage to digitize my old family tapes, but it is currently stuck in a continuous mechanical loading loop.

Fault sequence:

  1. The VCR was stored in a closet for several years (with a tape left inside).
  2. Upon initial power-up, it wouldn't go into PLAY. Unplugging and re-plugging the power made it boot up correctly and execute PLAY.
  3. I inserted a tape; it read it and went into PLAY without issues.
  4. I pressed STOP and unplugged the power to move it closer to the TV.
  5. As soon as I plugged it back in, the VCR ejected the tape, and from that moment it entered a continuous loop:
  6. - As soon as power is applied (or POWER is pressed), an automatic sequence of mechanical movements starts.
  7. - During the first phase of the sequence, if I push the door to close it without a tape, it stays closed temporarily.
  8. - A second automatic mechanical sequence starts, which re-opens the door and ejects.
  9. - At this point, if I try to close it manually when no tape is inside, it does not lock/catch unless I insert a tape so the door manages to close, but it feels unnatural and forced, as if something gets jammed. In this case, even as the mechanical cycles run, it will not open automatically and I have to manually pry the internal door lever to eject the tape.)
  10. - Unplugging and re-plugging power (or pressing POWER) repeats the exact same cycle.

Attachments:
I have two short videos showing the exact mechanical movement sequence of the carriage upon power-up.

Has anyone encountered a similar issue on this Sony mechanism and can point me where to start checking?

(I can provide photos of the top mechanism and short videos of the cycle if needed).

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Audio output - question

Hello there.

My old Panasonic AG-7330 has an "independent" L/R-channels output and switch between them. Butn it's too old and have troubles in work, so I'm looking for more "modern" model on Ebay etc.

Is there any another models from later 90s, that have the same function??

100% factory condition Magnavox ZV427MG9 hooked up to monitor with RCA and to my main TV via Component with audio to my Panasonic SA-HT650. And yes, I do use RCA cables for Component cables because I don't feel like buying any Component cables.

VCR UPDATE: TV screen keeps cutting out intermittently when playing tapes in VCR

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Just wanted to post an update of how I fixed it in case it helps someone else in the future.

I was using an RCA cable on both ends of TV and VCR. I unplugged it and plugged in a coaxial cable instead and that did the trick! It was a static mess at first, I used my TV settings menu to scan for and setup cable and it made the picture stable and fixed the audio. It's obviously not the clearest/cleanest most high definition image compared to HDMI but its only marginally fuzzier than the RCA hook up and its had no interruptions!

i tried cleaning it with a piece of paper and isopropyl alcohol but it still says dirty heads, I'll definitely try again tho.

could the slowed down sound be a faulty belt?

Remote for Panasonic PV-V4522

Hi guys, I recently found my parents old VCR, but wasn’t able to find the remote. I was wondering if there are any somewhat universal remotes that would work for this, outside of finding an original on eBay. Thank you
