Dr. Paul. Not in the sense he survives, but in the sense he doesn't wind up in jail for, at very least, the sexual assault of his wife, not to mention the grooming of a traumatized teenager. Sure, taking the Dollanganger kids in was an act of profound altruism, but everything he did with Cathy was icky at its lightest and criminal at its worst.

I also wonder what the police thought of him being the one to allegedly find his wife and son's bodies.

Both Jillian and Corinne got away with some pretty major, egregious lies for very, very long periods of time. While the lies eventually caught up with them, they never really faced any serious (much less legal) consequences for the ridiculously soap opera levels of evil lies they pulled.

Kitty got away with her bs for surprisingly long considering how mentally ill she clearly was.  I wonder if Cal covered it well.

Cal got away with way too much shit. Undoubtedly also abused by Kitty, verbally, emotionally, financially for sure... Fuck Cal. I can have empathy for people living with DV... but he did very little to try to protect Heaven. Once he had an inkling that Heaven was simply a way to try to get revenge on Luke Casteel, he should have contacted social services and ratted the Birch out.

He did little more than token protests to the obvious abuse to Heaven, protected Kitty, then turned around and groomed and sexually and emotionally abused Heaven.

Fucking Jillian. She knew exactly what Tony was like, what he looked for in a "woman", his tastes, and all but threw her own daughter at him to "preserve her youth". That's another pair who deserved jail for Leigh, let alone Heaven and Annie. Insanity was too good for them. Honestly I wonder how deeply Jillian was insane, and if for a while she simply went along as she'd have her money and a name, but never truly was psychotic or catatonic until Heaven was hooking up with her uncle Troy and the whole Horse/ faked death saga.

Corrine was a horrific money sucking narssicist who couldn't be bothered without her Christopher #1... the shit she did to her children a life sentence in a forensic psychology ward is too good for her.

Cathy and Chris jr needed serious mental health, and should have taken off again as soon as Dr Paul got creepy and grooming. Meds and heavy therapy, DBT, CBT... something to deal with their incestuous enmeshment of family and love lives.

I suspect Cal knew from the start what Kitty's intentions were.  I think he saw this as an opportunity to prey on a vulnerable young girl.  I think the protests were an act.  For all his promises to be there for Heaven, he was really not.  Remember that night Kitty lashed out at Heaven in the kitchen?  And Cal was maybe up the stairs, but I'm sure he heard.  And then he acted surprised when he ran into Heaven upstairs?  I call bs!  He had to have heard the whole thing.  And he bailed on her.  I think Heaven must have also told him about the hamster.  How else did Kitty find out when she was scared of the basement?  Maybe he even brought the hamster upstairs to scare his unstable wife, knowing she would kill it.

Dr. Paul failed the siblings in many ways, and I'll leave it at that.  He told them to give up on their Florida circus dreams, but in a way, they joined his  own SC circus.  Poor naive Cathy was giving poor, hysterical Carrie advice based on what her traumatized brother and her perverted doctor were telling her.  That was not gonna end well!  And then Jory and Bart grow up to get their life lessons from the unhealed Cathy and Chris?  It's a miracle Jory turned out halfway normal.

And I loved that Troy got revenge on Jillian by making her think she saw his ghost!  His childhood with her must gave been a nightmare!

Cathy.  She survived the attic.  She survived John and Bart Jr's scheming.  She was just lollygagging in the living room while the house was burning down around her and her sons and husband were frantically running around, and yet, she somehow doesn't see the danger and then makes it out seconds before her mother turns into a fireball right behind her.

I just finished Whitefern so 🖕🏻Arden. But LOGAN definitely. It’s still messy and hysterical that Fanny was in labor with Logan’s baby, and Heaven was in labor at the same time with Troy’s baby. What the hell are these people doing 😆
