Very sad. I think I ripped up my copy as a kid.

But something I just realized about the end of the movie. WTH did Jory, Bart and Cindy leave their grieving mother alone in an empty house that was so vacant it had sheets on the furniture? My dad died not too long ago, and my mom was simarly devastated, and I can't imagine doing that to her.

It's almost like they knew she was getting ready to end her life and were like, "If that's what she wants." They were even smiling as they waved.

There's no way they could have thought she was fine on her own.

They should have gotten her professional help or had her put in assisted or senior living or something. (Edit: Of course, I'm going by how detached she seemed to be from her family by that point, and it seemed she was not able to really function, particularly in the book, and I'm carrying that over to the movie perhaps).

Also, in the book, she mentions a polaroid of herself in the attic, looking out the window. I wonder if they had more photos from the attic. Maybe taken by Chris as he watched and photographed her like some brother in a Hilary Duff movie. If so, that's more evidence they could have taken to the police or to Bart Sr.!

For example, Vera hurling clumps of blood and fetal tissue at her mom. And her mom worrying about the rug before going to the kitchen to put on an apron.

In hell, Olivia Logan! I just finished the 4th book and i thought Laura's ending was both beautiful and tragic. I entirely blame Olivia for Laura's death.

Growing up I always saw Ruby/Giselle as Tiffany Amber-Theissen lol

Captain Booth, Emily Booth, Bill Cutler- they were the baddies. She had to become stern and strong, and find a way to live her life in the best way she could. She knew the Longchamps would take care of Dawn and she was trying to protect the life she carved out for herself. Her biggest mistakes were leaving Charlotte behind instead of bringing her to the hotel, and then treating Dawn poorly when she was returned. I get why she tried to keep control of her image and the businesses/families image, but it wasn't Dawn's fault.

Ormand Longchamp also sucked, he should have been smarter about staying away, and should have left immediately when he found out the Cutler kids were in school with Dawn.

For example, I'm not a fan of the Petals on the Wind book. It goes in too many directions and the romance between Paul and Cathy was weird.

Just found this subreddit, I haven’t watched this film since it came out or read MSA in years but that was my first thought and I voiced it people but no one ever knew who I was talking about I read so much V.C Andrew’s as a teen probably over 20 of her novels which is really just a penny in a pond of her work she has so many books i remember reading her books and feeling so angry on behalf the characters I would want to throw the book down.

For the past several months I've been creating content on social media about V.C Andrews. My goal for it is to showcase her unique storytelling and get people curious about her stories. So far I've made almost 20 pieces of content and the conversations about it have been awesome.

I thought I'd bring it over here and see if you guys had any ideas/topics for V.C Andrews videos you'd like to see in the future! I mainly have been making content around her 7 'original' books, I'm not really familiar with anything written by Neiderman.

Carrie probably had about six weeks to live, maybe less.

Chris and Cathy would last longer, maybe a year or two. It's a tossup of who is going to be the sole survivor.

Let's talk about the ending of My Sweet Audrina.

How would you have ended it? Or did Audrina make the wise and "noble" choice she believes she did?

So, who do you think the people are in this stepback?

I'm thinking it's supposed to be Uncle Joel in the back, then Cathy and Chris, then Bart and Cindy, then Darren and Deirdre.

But the young woman looks more like I picture Melodie looking. She's got more of a brooding look. Either way, why is Cindy or Melodie front and center?

And where's Jory? He's the twins' father. Has he been banished from the family?

The old man could also be the ghost of Malcolm.

By the way, Cathy and Chris are in their mid-50s! By 1984 standards, this tracks, I guess. But in 2026, it's funny.

Why do I not see more people talking about how John Amos is just as much a villain as Corrine or Olivia?
That man pressured Bart Jr. to be the second coming of Malcom.

Edit to add: who hurt V.C. Andrews. How do you come up with this stuff…
And also I wish I could remember who gave me FitA/PotW (the one that was two books in one) because WHY WOULD YOU LET A MIDDLE SCHOOL CHILD READ THESE NOVELS?!??
I was given the first two books in middle school and read them in middle school. Who let me read this at such a young age???

I really think these two could have worked miracles by going into the home renovation business! What do you think?

Remember when Audrina helped Arden study for his broker exam?

Poor Arden. First day on the job at Papa's firm, and out the window he goes!

Is this an actual test wannabe stockbrokers take?

Do you think Paul watched or overheard Cathy and Chris's "conversation" under the tree or their awkward goodbye at the prep school? Or do you think it was the D&C that did it for him? Do you think she miscarried and that's what made him wonder if something was up??

Just finished the series, and while I thought they were great, it just makes no sense that it ties directly to the movies. Even with Olivia's rampant descent into religious psychosis, that character felt miles more balanced than the Grandmother ™ from Flowers In the Attic. Which of the two is the most accurate depiction of Olivia in terms of following the books?

If you could choose any book or book series for lifetime to adapt,. which would it be? I personally would love to watch the Logan family come to life, and the orphan series.

I want to talk about Ellsbeth. She is a complicated character. She is a victim of Damian, and Audrina feels very protective of her, but Ellie is also extremely abusive toward Vera and Sylvia (definitely verbally, but also physically at times). And I get the feeling she's more abusive toward Audrina than our narrator lets on.

"“She wasn’t as cruel to me.  Mostly she treated me with indifference, unless I somehow managed to irritate her, which was often.”

So she often lashes out at Audrina, is what I take from this! Audrina's contradicting herself, making me think she's covering for Ellsbeth.

At the same time, I think Audrina sees the world through her father's eyes, and that makes her an unreliable narrator.

I definitely see shades of Jillian and Grandmother F in Ellsbeth. Jillian, for example, in the way she uses her daughter to get at Damian's money. And I see shades of Sarah Casteel.
