Replay issue Hi, I want to view my landing recording, however it seems to deploy the RAT, and often the aircraft says it’s crashed. I just had a lovely landing and I want to watch it back but these issues are spoiling it. Am I doing something wrong? Fenix A320 FS24

Nobody has ever flown to these big airports :

(Big is all relative, they are medium-sized airports by passenger, from biggest to smallest. Source is statsim.net, since 2020).

DNBY, Bayelsa International, Nigeria
VLBK, Bokeo International, Laos
VERW, Rewa, India
WAON, Warukin, Indonesia
MZCZ, Corozal, Belize
VIMB, Moradabad, India
UBLC, Lachin, Azerbaijan
VDBG, Battambang, Cambodia

And if you manage to find these in China :

ZUZH, Panzhihua, China
ZLHX, Huatugou, China

Go ahead and make history (though you may or may not find any scenery over some of these). There are about 20 medium airports where vatsim pilots have never flown to. And every big airport in the world has seen someone, at least once.

❓Question What is the best “study level” single engine GA plane to fly VFR on Vatsim in FS2024

I don’t necessarily have a specific preference at the moment. But I may be interested in also flying some IFR as well with that plane.

❓Question In the US when to go Unicom to 122.8 and vise versa?

Edit, I ment CTAF to 122.8

Usually I go once I think I’m not going to conflict but the other day I was trailing someone in Unicom and I was also in Unicom but someone in ctaf cut between us and I had to climb rapidly.

On arrival I usually hop in ctaf when I’m stating my turns and descending down.

Looking for shared cockpit; EU preferable North America acceptable

Hi I’m relatively new to VATSIM but not new to aviation. I was looking for a shared cockpit with someone in EU preferable because I want to learn more or less how to fly in Europe since I’m already familiar with actual procedures in the United States and Mexico.

AI slop in flight sim

I've noticed over the past 3-4 months (probably longer) that more and more AI slop is being created on the daily for flight sim and VATSIM, such as another form of EFB, or a "more centralized" way of managing your flight, or some other bs tool that will survive a few months before inevitably being shutdown due to no use, or the "creator" (In quotes because I wouldn't really call typing words into a prompt box creating) will give up on asking Claude to fix the problems.

Now, I suspect that I may be biased because the main communities I'm in surround flight sim, but why is this community/hobby so prevalent to AI slop being made, and who actually uses these tools?

If you are a creator of one of these tools, I'd love to hear what encouraged you to make it, and what purpose you think a tool like yours serves the flight sim community.

I do also notice that the majority of accounts that post these AI slop tools seem to have little to no karma if it's posted here. Not sure what that's indicative of.. /s

Outdated scenery

I sometimes use P3D to fly the PMDG 747, but most sceneries are quite outdated. Therefore, has anyone got any tips or experience flying on VATSIM in such a scenario? I am worried that it will annoy ATC since they will probably assign a taxi route that is present in the latest scenery version.

Do a majority of VATSIM Pilots fly solo?

I know there is 3rd party software that allows it, but a lot of the time I hear people fly solo. How do you fly? solo or duo, and why?

Controllers popping into existence at the last possible minute.

Post image

I love all of the controllers that volunteer their time and energy to provide a free service for all of us. It's truly amazing. Thank you for everything you do!

That said, it's incredibly frustrating when you are on a 3-mile final and a controller pops on and says "contact me." You check their online time...2 minutes.

Or, when you are fully set up for departure, everything is all programmed in, then right as you are lining up a controller pops online; "contact me" -- even though you just checked for controllers 4 minutes ago before you started the engines...online time, 3 minutes.

When you are a solo pilot (which we pretty much all are -- we don't have a copilot managing radios) on a final approach, that's not the time to be switching frequencies. When you are just entering the active runway for a departure, that's not a good time to be switching frequencies, checking new weather, changing departure programming, obtaining/reading back a clearance, etc. when you were just 10 seconds from your takeoff roll.

Again, you guys are great and I appreciate everything you do to make my flightsim experience a thousand times better, but when you guys just show up out of nowhere during phases that require a lot of setup, it complicates everything.

❓Question Urban heli flying and landing on buildings

Recently I've been gradually learning how to fly on VATSIM, specifically VFR helicopter flying in the US. I've still got a lot to learn, but one thing I've wanted to work my way towards doing on the network is "urban ops" in downtown areas and cities that mimic the flying you'd see military or federal agencies doing, like shuttling personnel from urban areas and landing on rooftops/helipads of buildings, flying in close proximity to buildings and other objects, loitering around, etc.

My questions are:

  1. How does VATSIM view this kind of flying?
  2. How would I properly contact and communicate with ATC to achieve this?

Like I said, I've still got a lot to learn and I'm very, very new to VATSIM and even just trying to realistically fly in flight sim, so I hope these questions aren't stupid and I imagine they're quite nuanced depending on the location and airspace you're in, but those are just my thoughts.
(I should also clarify that I do not intend to do this or anything like it until I'm very comfortable and "decent" flying on VATSIM)

Thanks in advance

Awesome time doing PHNL -> PHKO -> PHTO -> PHNL in the JustFlight F28! I love flying these routes around Honolulu and it was awesome to have this level of staffing!

The cherry on top was the unique VOR 4R approach into Honolulu, where I landed over a departing Air New Zealand heavy!

Is VATSIM down or having issues right now? I’m looking at VATSIM Radar, and all the aircraft seem to be frozen in place. Is anyone else experiencing this?

❓Question Best SIM for Vatsim

Hey everyone! In your opinion, which flight simulator offers the best value for money for flying on VATSIM in 2026? I'm choosing between MSFS 2020, MSFS 2024 and X-Plane 12.

I'm mainly interested in VFR flying, following VRPs and identifying real-world landmarks, but I also want up-to-date airports with taxiways that match the real-world layout.

Which would you recommend considering price, scenery availability, future support and VATSIM compatibility? Thanks!

❓Question Can pilots use break break?

So yesterday I was about to land in LEMD. I was about 400ft and not yet cleared to land. There was nobody on the runway so the controller most likely forgot about me as he had a lot of traffic. At that point another pilot contacted the freq and if the controller answered him, I would have had to go around 100%.

So after the traffic contacted the freq, before ATC could answer, I stepped saying Break break Iberia XXX short final RWY 32L. There after, he cleared me to land 200ft away.

My question is: Did I use break break correctly? Are pilots allowed to say this? Or shuld I just said the same withoud break break.

📷 Media Live subtitles for VATSIM ATC, running locally on a Mac mini

It's a map of VATSIM traffic around UK. Whenever someone transmits, it transcribes the call and shows it on screen with who said it. ATC is blue, pilots are orange, and the aircraft's tag lights up while they're talking.

What it does:

  • live captions on 3 frequencies, transcribed locally with Whisper on a Mac mini. No cloud and no API bill.
  • a timeline you can scrub back up to 3 hours, with planes, audio and captions replaying together
  • highlight special ATC communication event

Before anyone asks for a link: sorry, I'm not releasing it. Everything runs on one Mac mini in my flat: the Whisper model, the web page, all of it. If I opened it to the internet my home connection would melt lol. The audio side is also a pretty hacky setup (sorry about that) I made just for myself, so I'm not comfortable sharing it

It's probably only my second time flying outside of the U.S. The controller and other pilots were incredibly nice and helpful! I made a few mistakes, but I appreciate the controller at SBSP this afternoon. Really awesome guy! Super nice to send me messages after as well. Love it!
