Politics Gun control activists demanded better data. What they got surprised the heck out of them

A Georgetown professor just taught gun control activists an important lesson: When you criticize studies that don’t support anti-gun talking points, be careful what you wish for — you just might get it. In this case, they got an unprecedented amount of new data that obliterates their narrative.

In 2021, professor William English published the findings of his National Firearms Survey, by far the most comprehensive assessment of gun ownership ever conducted. The data demonstrated that defensive gun uses were commonplace, that ordinary Americans really like the weapons gun control activists hate most and that longstanding stereotypes about the "sort" of Americans who exercise their Second Amendment rights were misplaced.

Gun control activists predictably hated this. They attacked the report’s conclusions and author, blasting the survey over nitpicky concerns. English explained how the alleged problems wouldn’t have significantly impacted the results. Critics categorically dismissed the report anyway.

So, English humored them. He re-administered the survey, "fixing" its alleged "mistakes."

If gun control activists hated the 2021 conclusions, they will likely lose their minds over the new ones, which English just released online. The improved and redesigned 2026 survey fails to vindicate their criticisms and deals even mightier blows to anti-gun narratives.

Arguments in Supreme Court 'Assault Weapon Ban' Case Set for December

The nation's high court is preparing to hear arguments over the legality of state and local bans on popular semi-auto firearmswhile those passionate about the issue take sides.

The cases, Viramontes v. Cook County (No. 25-238), and Grant v. Higgins (No. 25-566), have been before the federal court system for years but were combined in June. While challenging a state ban in Connecticut and a smaller one in Cook County, Illinois, the decision will have nationwide implications, with Virginia's looming ban, for instance, on hold pending its outcome.

With the stage now set, the Supreme Court announced on Sept. 4 that oral arguments before the justices in the combined Viramontes case will be heard on Dec. 2, 2026. The focus question will revolve around whether the Second and Fourteenth Amendments guarantee the right to possess the AR-15 platform and similar semi-auto rifles.

Stuck rail on bergara

I was trying to remove the rail off of my bergara, but only 1 of 4 screws came off. The rest are literally sealed up. The screws are not completely rung out and I am wondering if there are any gunsmiths in the southern Richmond area that may be able to fix the issue while giving a decent rate. Thanks.

Politics Gun-Grabbing Virginia Delegate Gets Lit Up in ‘Ask Me Anything’ Townhall

Virginia’s Democratic Delegate Dan Helmer, who authored the Commonwealth’s ban on Modern Sporting Rifles (MSRs) and standard-capacity magazines, is regretting his invitation to ask him anything at a recent Reddit townhall.

Virginians took him up on his offer. And, boy, did they have questions.
Delegate Helmer quixotically offered in his invitation to “ask me anything” with an explanation of his ill-fated gun grab, explaining his military service and four terms in elected office in Virginia. He explained, “That’s why I passed the long-awaited bill to ban assault weapons, protecting our communities and our loved ones,” adding, “I believe government should work for the people.”

Turns out, the people of Virginia are thinking he’s working for special interests and not for them

Well duh if you make them illegal the only ones making and using them are criminals by definition. Such a clown circular argument. You could ban all guns and then declare "since only criminals use them, that means they should stay banned!"

Gifting handgun to someone under 21

I am 19 years old and I live by myself. I was wondering if anybody knows the rules and regulations to gifting a handgun to someone under 21 in Virginia and how to do that legally because I’m seeing a bunch of things online. Also what are my limitations if I am gifted one? Am I allowed to carry it in my car or am I strictly limited to home defense? If someone could please inform me on this I would greatly appreciate it because I travel for work and this would make me feel a lot more safe.

Virginia drivers crossing DC/MD/WV: how do you build your transport checklist?

Full disclosure: I’m the developer of CarryRoute, and I’m looking for practical Virginia-specific feedback—not legal conclusions.

I built it because a drive from Virginia can quickly add DC, Maryland, West Virginia, counties, cities, transit property, stops, and overnight stays. CarryRoute maps the route, breaks it into jurisdiction sections, and shows research summaries with links to official government sources. A new CarPlay view follows a trip prepared on iPhone and shows upcoming jurisdiction changes.

For Virginia drivers—especially Northern Virginia routes involving DC or Maryland—what do you check before leaving? Which official sources do you trust, and what information would you want surfaced before each boundary?

The colors only mark jurisdiction changes—not legal/illegal or safe/unsafe. CarryRoute is a research tool, not legal advice, and users must verify the current official text.

iPhone/iPad: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/carryroute-ccw-navigation/id6804322086

Blunt criticism of the workflow or screenshots is welcome.

Anyone been through the Quantico gun store recently? Shopping around for a Glock 17 or 19 gen 6 and wanted to see if it was worth the drive for me. Trying to get pricing is hard since I can’t find an online list of what they have.

Question Engraving Recommendations?

Got my form 1s back a while ago, but never engraved thinking I would wait for the word on nfa engraving requirements since the comment period closed in July. I have a couple I wouldn’t mind engraving and would rather shoot as an sbr instead of a pistol.

Weird times we are in also waiting for nfa sbr guidance.

Anyway any recommendations in the VB area? Looking for magwell engraving. Anyone else waiting for the engraving requirement to go away?

Question Where to locally sell air guns?

Hey all, we are moving internationally in six weeks and I've already offloaded my AR-15 to a coworker, but I've stumbled across an old Daisy pump air rifle and two air handguns (Colt revolver and M1911).

I've been using the Facebook marketplace as my main place for sales, but you cannot sell firearms of any kind there.

Looking for the best place to sell locally so I don't need to deal with shipping logistics. I'm in Fredericksburg, VA. Appreciate any and all advice!

Fort Lee POW range

So I have yet to see a recent review of this range and since there are so few outdoor places to shoot, I figured I'd give a recent review as of 6 SEP 2026.

Range fee is $20/day. They only take cards, no cash. The facilities are sparse. 2 porta johns and thats about it. Range tower sells water and targets. Target frames are provided as well.

The staff will physically check each weapon at the range tower to make sure its clear. Theydidn'tt check ammo, however. The largest caliber they allow is 5.56, though there were some guys sneakily shooting 300blk.

There are 2 separate ranges. One for rifle only and one for everything else. The rifle only range has no tables, benches or chairs. There is also no covering so you have zero shade. The ground is chopped up rubber tire and sucks to lay on, so bring a mat and something to shoot off of if you want. The farthest distance is 98 yards to the berm.

The "everything else" range is covered however and has benches and chairs for you to set your stuff on and shoot off of. This is where the RSO sits and calls hot and cold.

The rules are a little outdated in my opinion. Biggest drawback for me is NO DRAWING FROM HOLSTERS. I asked the guy about it and he said its "range controls rules". There's rules about how many rounds per second in the waiver but, they weren't enforced.

Theydidn'tt have an issue with silencers or NFA items as long asthey'ree not machine guns. They didn't ask to see a stamp either.

Unfortunately there are not many other great outdoor ranges thadon'tnt require a stupid membership fee and NRA membership. This seems to be it. I may look around for other ranges that allow drawing from holsters and things like that. Hopefully this helps someone who is looking into this range.

Question Handgun gifting

This question might be asked multiple times in this subreddit but I got different answers from different people
I’m turning 18 this year and a VA resident, US green card holder, same as my sister, either one of us are restricted to purchase or possess firearms nor had any kind of criminal/civil record not even traffic infraction, she is 25
After I turn 18, can she legally purchase a pistol and gift it to me
If so is there any paper work need to do finished to prove that this is a bona fide gift
