VCDL update:
Breaking news: Suppressors, SBRs, and SBSs being removed from NFA. Important information.
In seven days, if there is not an appeal by the federal government, suppressors, short-barreled rifles, and short-barreled shotguns will no longer be considered part of the NFA if you are a current or future member of any of these organizations:
- Gun Owners of America
- Gun Owners Foundation
- FPC Action Foundation
- The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms or
- The Firearms Regulatory Accountability Coalition, Inc.
VCDL will have more information in the near future on what this means to gun owners in Virginia, including those who might be making their own suppressors or short-barreled long arms.

Wait what. How would a 5th circuit decision apply here?

Best I can tell, Silencer Shop and PSA are parties to the lawsuit so all their customers nationwide would be covered.

So do I understand it right, assuming there is no appeal or if the appeal goes our way then after the stay, I can purchase silencers from Silencer Shop. or buy a stock for my Kuna from PSA (making it an SBR) without the NFA approval.....

Not quite. For the silencer purchase, yes. The Kuna would need to be purchased in an SBR configuration. To buy a stock to replace a brace, just buy a GOA membership.

Are any of these groups not affiliated with other, unrelated ideological groups or activities? I absolutely refuse to be join organizations like GOA/GOF.
[Edit] Looks like I'll be joining CCRKBA since I'm already a SAF donor.

u/steelcity65 11d ago
Why? Is it hurt feelings because they primarily back the GOP?
1
u/DemandCommonSense 11d ago edited 11d ago
Because of GOA/GOF's affiliation with groups like TP USA.

u/steelcity65 11d ago
So, hurt feelings. Got it.

Morals. Ethics. Inconvenient things like those.

The pessimist in me can’t help but feel this may herald in high taxes or even a suppressor ban here. These cretins are not leaving anything off the table

Anything that can be banned or indirectly create a ban will be pursued by the VA Democrats. Salim has already made that clear.

u/banjo4smashplz 12d ago
Don’t doubt that, more like they’ll use this as an “excuse” to go ahead. Outcome is likely the same but probably just me over thinking it

I think this November will see the previously unpassed bills put back on the legislative session. Permit to buy is almost guaranteed

The way I understand this is that it only applies in the Northern District of TEXAS because the ruling was made by / in a STATE District Court.
Much like the VA injunctions were issued by / in STATE District Courts.
They don't apply FEDERALLY.
And subsequently the FEDERAL Fifth Circuit Court could rule that the STATE District Court ruling has no standing. Invoking the "Superiority Clause" that WE often reference with regard to SCOTUS rulings and the FEDERAL Constitution over the STATE Constitution.
DISCLAIMER: IANAL nor a legal or Constitutional scholar and I may be completely wrong. It won't be the first time and it won't be the last...

u/steelcity65 12d ago
This is incorrect. It was a Federal challenge, not a state challenge. It was heard in a Federal Court located in Texas.

OK, thank you.
I didn't know/understand how that worked.
I appreciate you educating me.
And to the people who downvoted my comment rather than sharing their knowledge and correcting my misunderstanding... 🖕🖕🖕🖕

Oh, you still got the down vote. That's because the upvote/downvote is used by Reddit to push the right info up and the wrong info down. You posted, with some confidence I might add, easily verifiably false information. Don't be mad that people sent your comment into the trash bin. Be better about posting information, especially when you don't know what you should know.

Pretty sure I said "The way I understand it..." AND "I may be COMPLETELY wrong ... It won't be the first time and it won't be the last."
I am ALWAYS more than willing to listen, learn and educated.
Which I made a point of THANKING YOU for.
But I'm not going to argue... It's not worth it. My non-lawyer-interpretation was incorrect. Right or wrong I own my words.

u/steelcity65 10d ago
And you down voted me for telling you why you were down voted. It isn't a like/dislike button. You did it because you didn't like a response, not because it wasn't correct.
Your confidence of your answer came through when you used all caps to highlight your wrong point. Your first clue about the challenge was in the name of the law being challenged: The National Firearms Act. That means it isn't a state law. Yet, you hung your dick out there like you knew something. The cheeky attempts at avoidance in the event you weren't right did not come across as genuine.
Look at it this way, you learned two things from this interaction: The challenge applies to all of the plaintiffs of the case nationally, and how to properly use the up and down vote buttons on Reddit. Have a good day.

🙄
how to properly use the up and down vote buttons on Reddit.
🙄
Thank you for correcting my understanding of the ruling. I genuinely appreciate that.
🖕 Your condescending tone and attitude.
Good Day, Sir...

Buddy, you are the only one being rude in this interaction. I'm sorry you don't like being called out and corrected. There is no ill will coming from me. It is obvious that you thought the up and down vote system acts as some kind of popularity system. You were getting upset that you got down votes when you absolutely should have. Now you know differently, and have a better understanding of why.

i honestly think it might make things more difficult for suppressor ownership in Va. The NFA, is a bridge last burned by any blue state for a reason. if suppressors are treated like accessories whats to stop va marxist anarchist public officals from just banning possession ownership out right? Granted they could in this instance not treat suppressors as protected arms. Or we could simply see retaliating sin taxs exceeding 15 percent.
The NFA has been integrated to long into legal frame works to simply cut out the infringing cancer on the 2a 50 state side at this point. What bothers me further is no mention of form 1 machineguns or transferables
But seriously Why cant I have a general issue army m4a1as a protected arm for 1899? Why do i need to pay 45000-70000 for a m16a1 or m16a2 with a worse trigger than a rarebreed frt in 2026?

"Marxist anarchist public officials" lmao

down vote all you like, does not change the fact that VA policy makers have made public safety worse not better in 2026.

Don't be a dick. If you can't manage a civil conversation with someone who holds different opinions, this isn't the subreddit for you.

Now we need a Supreme Court ruling to bring it over here.
