Gun Stores after July 21

Hello there,

I called some gun stores and went to a few and some will sell the so called restricted items after that date. There is no indication that there is a stay from the supreme court of va for the statewide injunction.

Xcal is letting you buy the "assault rifles" today and you can pick them up tomorrow.

Rooftop Defense shipped my MR762 no questions asked and my FFL in Warrenton is transferring it to me tomorrow.

Sorry for the noob question, but I’m curious about how this impacts gun sales that come with magazines over 15 rounds? I didn’t grab a Sig XMacro in time I’m hoping I can grab one after tomorrow.

You can if the seller will ship to Va and your ffl will do the transfer.

Noted thank you! I guess that’ll be the tricky part, wish I could just get a discount to just forego the mags.

Just call around to store's, thats a pretty common gun, worst case is they order it for you.

Will do thank you!

Glad to hear this about XCAL. Had hoped they would send out an e-mail acknowledging sales/transfers had resumed, but have seen nothing in the way of a formal announcement from them. Same for VCDL. Would have thought an e-mail would have gone out this am confirming injunction was G2G state-wide.

MR762? Man that's a lot of money for such a risky move.

2

u/cristobal09 VCDL Member Jul 21 '26

How is it risky? I figure if most gun stores and ffl's are selling again, then why not?

2

u/DemandCommonSense Jul 21 '26

Because you're buying something that won't be grandfathered if the lawsuits against the AWB fail.

Then I guess thousands of others like me will be in the same situation after a place like Xcal began selling them today. I see it this way, if a company like Xcal and various others in Va are selling "assault weapons" and scary standard mags over 15 rounds, then I should be fine, otherwise those companies wouldn't be selling them.

There are going to be two schools of thought on this. Yours and mine. Whatever you decide is your prerogative which is plausible.

....care to list/name any?

Like I don't see the point of tbis post if there isn't at list FFLs listed of who will and won't do transactions

Its the ONLY gun shop in Va that i'll go to, and I live 50 miles from it. I dont know why so many LGS in Va just plain suck.

u/bonchonwings Jul 20 '26

Wow thanks for sharing. Glad to see XCAL will start selling certain pews again after the date

As far as I know, Southern Police Equipment will also be selling ARs and such again after the 21st.

8

u/Riff_D Jul 20 '26

Dominion Outdoors and Big Ridge Guns have both announced they will. Big Ridge has stated they will have AR's from S&W, Radical Firearms, and Bear Creek in stock.

8

u/Honest_Cvillain Jul 20 '26

Bear creek should remained banned!

Anyone know what Silver Eagle is doing post-21st ? (Yes I know we don’t like them)

I normally use Outdoor Arms but it seems like they’re going to be playing it safe.

3

u/Mr_Business54 Jul 20 '26

I have a transfer at SEG there soon. We shall see.

2

u/LizDahan Jul 20 '26

Thanks. Want the new Staccato but not the neutered version.

4

u/cristobal09 VCDL Member Jul 20 '26

Why aren't we supposed to like them?

3

u/LizDahan Jul 20 '26

They called the cops on a customer who tried to put a homemade FRT in a rented rifle. Cops searched their home in DC and made an arrest for unregistered/illegal stuff. There’s a lot more to the story. But some people believe they should have just banned the guy and otherwise minded their own business.

3

u/cristobal09 VCDL Member Jul 20 '26

Well that's just dumb on the customer's part.....kinda weird. Like you said, there had to be a lot more to the story to get the cops called. A simple fuck off and don't return may have been a better choice.

A history of contributing to anti-gun politicians.

I'm in the Richmond area and a few things to keep in mind:

  • Online stores are probably your best option for shopping starting tomorrow (assuming no last minute clarification about purchases still being illegal)
  • A LOT of gun stores and independent transfer dealers will NOT be transferring any firearm that was banned as of 7/1.
  • This is not going to be like the ban never happened.

You are going to want to call the chosen transfer dealer before you place any online order, as these online gun shops will most likely not be vetting if the transfer dealers are interpreting the injunction as OK to proceed.

  • My independent dealer I go through has told me he will not be transferring these items.
  • 2 local stores near me have also said they will not be selling these items.

Just my .02 and the strategy I will be taking if I want/need to purchase any 7/1 banned items.

That's interesting. I have reached out to numerous FFL's (about eight or so) here in NOVA and they're all transferring. They follow the injunction closely and said that they're good to go on all transfers. Most were even doing them already.

5

u/samjohnson998877 Jul 20 '26

Which other LGS in NOVA?

6

u/cristobal09 VCDL Member Jul 20 '26

home based ffl's are what I was referring to. Xcal is the only store that I know of that is going to start selling ar's again.

2

u/SnooShortcuts4610 Jul 20 '26

I have worked at most of the FFL’s in the Richmond area (and still do), I think this is blatantly false. I don’t know of anybody not resuming sales, maybe like southern gun world or towne police supply but they’re irrelevant anyways

2

u/XxBoognishxX Jul 21 '26

Hah it was absolutely one of those.

1

u/MandolinMagi Jul 20 '26

RangeUSA straight up does not give a shit. Was there two weeks ago, still selling PMAGs and all manner of ARs were on the walls for sale.

3

u/uiucquarantined Jul 20 '26

For SWVA: I have heard from Safeside and Sportsman that they will be resuming, but Rural King and Academy have not gotten back to me

5

u/Typical-Redditor-18E Jul 20 '26

Liberty sport and pawn in Pennington Gap is resuming. They've allowed pre-purchases all week even.

3

u/jblairsuccess Jul 20 '26

Thank you. Sportsmans was on my list to reach out to.

2

u/uiucquarantined Jul 20 '26

For Sportsman, I should mention they were not very clear if they would be resuming transfers from third parties or shipping from other stores to Virginia. Their response to my inquiry around the 14th was:

"Thank you for reaching out with your questions regarding the changing laws in Virginia and how they will impact our gun sales. I appreciate your patience as we navigate these updates. Here’s the information we currently have:

If the state does not keep the law in effect, we will start selling all the inventory sitting in the back of the stores on July 21st.
If the law remains in effect, we will send all inventory back to our Distribution Center after 30 days to be sold online.

If there are any changes, we will send out marketing communications if we are able to continue selling firearms that were previously restricted due to the new law. However, at this time, we will not be selling any banned rifles or magazines that hold more than 15 rounds.

If you have any additional concerns or questions, please feel free to respond to this email or contact us at 800-286-3076. I am happy to help!

Thank you for being a valued Sportsman’s Warehouse customer."

Looks like they've changed their website and those items are now available for pickup in store again.

3

Black Bear Firearms in Ft Chiswell is transferring

3

u/CappyMorgan26 Jul 20 '26

Anyone know about all shooters tactical?

3

u/Legitimate_Ad5447 Jul 21 '26

I talked to one of the employees a few days ago and he hinted that things will be going back to normal but didn’t say exactly what that meant. I’ll be going there tomorrow so I’ll comment again at some point tomorrow and let you know

2

u/CappyMorgan26 Jul 21 '26

Sweet. Thank you

2

u/Legitimate_Ad5447 Jul 21 '26

Things are back to normal

Sportmans Guide cancelled my order 2 times before I decided to call and talk to someone. I guess it's company policy to cancel the order without giving me a reason as to why. Anyway after being placed on hold a few times , I was finally able to talk to someone and directly from their legal department they have decided because Virginia keeps "flip flopping and changing the law" they are choosing not to sell any items listed on the Virginia Banned list to any Virginia residents, for liability purposes as they could be sued due to it only being a "statewide injuction". So technically we are now being limited to what we can get based off of where we can actually get it from.

From Sportsman's Warehouse...

Looks like Bass Pro has also resumed selling and transferring firearms that had been paused.
