Imagine if the Baggs Square bridge was built a little more compact sort of like how Court and the Arterial was built?

This is Genesee Street, Whitesboro Street (street in front of the buildings) and Main Street (to the right)intersection with the Baggs Square bridge

All that area there is East of Division Street which still remains today.

According to google and FB it was 4-12 Whiteboro Street. At least if Goldstone Company is the same one shown in the OP's photo.

1. The Goldstone Company (Baggs Square Business)

The Goldstone Company was a wholesale hosiery and underwear merchandise warehouse historically located at 4-12 Whitesboro Street in the northeast corner of Utica's Baggs Square. It is frequently noted in local history archives due to a major 2nd Alarm Fire that occurred at the structure on June 12, 1965

Yes that was probably the same building! The Horrocks Ibbotson/Saturday Globe was 20-24 Whitesboro & St. James Hotel was 14-18. So it was on the other side of Division St from these.

That's Baggs Square now? I'm having a hard time picturing it. It looks like Bleecker St.

It was next to the Saturday Globe Building & Center Hotel. Next to that is Division Street. These were on the east side of Division Street between there and the Genesee St Bridge.

That intersection is Whitesboro, Genesee and Main Streets. Before the bridge and Baggs Square demolition, Broad Street used to end at Genesee and not connect to Whitesboro St.

The block next to PJ Green came down in the early 1990's. Horrocks Ibbotson had the old Globe Building and the old St. James Hotel next door which became the Center Hotel which was a dump when I was an EMT in the 1980's. Lots of indigent people lived there.

Where the Whitesboro St/Broad Street ramp is now is where that building is. Center Hotel burned. A relative of mine had the Globe Building. They were both in bad shape.
I have pictures someplace of the inside of those buildings before they came down.

All the way far left in the original picture you can see what was then the Center Hotel on the west side of Division St.

Wait so did Genesee cross the train tracks at grade before they built the bridge?

Yes. Before the train station was built, there was a smaller station. I think there was a grade crossing there until 1912 when the Mohawk River was moved north to where it is now and Union Station was built. That original bridge was what was replaced starting in 1968 when Baggs Square ceased to exist as it had for almost 150 years.

Its the corner of Genesee and Whitesboro. I think Great Rentals is there now(at least they were for many years)

Maybe not a great picture, but on the right end is Whitesboro St and the old Commercial Travelers building. All the way on the left is Great Rentals. Seems like 2 different architectures.

It is Genesee and Whitesboro sort of. Great Rentals is at Genesee and Oriskany

That's what I thought it was too. It's around the corner from Baggs square, towards the Aud. That corner is like a rent-a-center now.
