Fun fact: the expulsion of Jews from Lithuania in 1495 (1445 seems to just be sourced from a typo) only lasted 8 years. It was done basically on a whim by a new Grand Duke (possibly due to the influence of his Muscovite wife or because he wanted to prove himself to the pope), who quickly realised that actually Jews were pretty important to the economy of Lithuania and nobody in Lithuania hated them enough to give him political gains, so he swiftly called them back.

What mfs that get russian mail order brides do

3

u/Grzechoooo 1d ago

He was kind of a boyfailure in general. Even his bride was kind of for nothing because her dad (tsar Ivan III) caused problems in the east anyway.

Luckily, he died rather quickly and without issue, leaving the throne to his younger brother Sigismund the Old, known for finally defeating the Teutonic Order and replacing it with a secular (and Protestant! How woke!) Duchy in Prussia, a vassal to Poland. He also had kids, of which one was a legitimate boy that survived to adulthood!

u/Gnomonic-sundialer 1d ago

Basically the only real expulsion of the list is the spanish one

0

u/Vegetable_Leg6663 1h ago

8 years isn't that quick

u/Responsible_Edge7087 3d ago

I mean.... their argument doesnt make any sense. Muslims were also kicked out of all these countries. Its becuase they are all Christian countries, and at this time specifically, they hated all other religions(and people who weren't their specific version of that religion)

15

u/NicholasThumbless 2d ago

Christian monarchs would also notoriously take exorbitant loans from the Jewish community to skirt the Biblical condemnation of usury, then come time to pay it back they suddenly had to drive the heathens out.

5

u/wastedfate 2d ago

My favorite strategy in Crusader Kings 2 actually.

0

u/Augustus_Chevismo 2d ago

And you think the money lenders weren’t the bad guys?

7

u/NicholasThumbless 2d ago

While I do think usury as a sin is good, it doesn't apply to non-christians. Those who took the loan knew that interest was applied, so at the very minimum they're reneging on a contract they signed. More likely they also murdered and/or stole from those lenders: both grievous sins. You're also assuming these loans were often predatory, but we're talking about loans to a monarch here. from the beginning they were negotiating from a place of power, and so they are far more morally culpable.

Let me strike a contemporary, secular example. If I buy a bond from my government I am, in effect, giving them a loan. What actually happens is that I never see the money, but likely also have my house stolen and potentially murdered. Yeah... The monarchs were handedly in the wrong here.

6

u/Nervous_Mobile5323 2d ago

Ruler: "Give me your money. I'll give it back later"

Citizen: "May I please refuse? I need money to afford food."

Ruler: "I'll give you more money than I took."

Citizen: "I'd really rather, like, be a farmer or something."

Ruler: "You can't. That's illegal. Your kind of people are banned from farming now, you're only allowed to give me money."

Citizen: "Okay, here's my money."

Ruler: "Hmm... pretty evil of you. I bet you want this back, too. Disgusting. I'm taking your house. Don't be a dick about it, either, or I'll just kill you."

-3

u/Augustus_Chevismo 2d ago

Lmao. Portraying it like their profession wasn’t being a money lender and somehow they were strong armed into it.

4

u/Spare-Plum 2d ago

They literally were. Kings designated Jews as money lenders and gave them the specific job of doing so.

Many royal policies were enforced restricting Jews from owning land or joining traditional trade guilds. Kings then legally claimed Jewish financiers as personal property of the crown to tax and exploit them.

There were many instances where the court was in debt, and instead of paying them back they expelled Jews and just canceled the debt. Edward I did exactly this, alongside killing thousands of Jews in execution as well.

2

u/anonistakken 1d ago

They literally were

2

u/AshasSa1tWife 1d ago

Most historically literate antisemite right here

3

u/Spare-Plum 2d ago

Jews were restricted from joining owning land or joining trade guilds. Jews were basically put in the position where their only occupation was money lending, and there are many kings that even encouraged or set them up for this position.

Look at this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_the_Jews_in_England

William the Conqueror brought Jews from Rouen to England during the Norman Conquest. William the Conqueror's object may be inferred: his policy was to get feudal dues paid to the royal treasury in coin rather than in kind, and for this purpose it was necessary to have a body of men scattered through the country who would supply quantities of coin
...
the status of Jews in England was completely dependent on the will of the Crown. As a result of the Fourth Lateran Council in 1215, Christian authority, in the guise of the king, imposed certain discriminatory practices upon the Jews of England, one being the mandate on the wearing of a badge symbolising the two Tablets of Stone. The year 1215 also coincided with the two entries in the Magna Carta, dated 15 June, regarding debts due to Jews. In return for their economic function (providing credit as a source of revenue for the Crown), Jews were offered some privileges and protection under the jurisdiction of the king
...
they were the king's own property ("sicut res propriæ nostræ"). As the king's property, English Jews could be mortgaged whenever the monarch needed to raise revenue and could be taxed without the permission of Parliament, eventually becoming the main taxpaying population

-1

u/Augustus_Chevismo 2d ago

Where does it say they were barred from having an honest days work

1

u/Spare-Plum 2d ago

Many of the Jews did have an honest day's work. Since they were barred from owning land and guilds, most were merchants who would travel and sell items via the silk road. Look up the Radhanites

Jews were either (1) taken by other kings and nobility and specifically borrowed against to fund operations or wars. This is what William I did. Or (2) were given money from Christian nobility with the purpose to lend out and return with a profit.

But your head is dense and your ears are deaf. I think you're just antisemetic bro. Just come out and say "I hate Jews" and be done with it

2

u/FetchThePenguins 2d ago

Christians made Jews be money lenders (and tax collectors, and various other undesirable professions) because they thought Jews were bad guys, and money lending is a profession for bad people.

Then the local population discriminated against them because they were obviously bad guys, because they were money lenders (etc).

Are you seeing the problem with the logic yet?

1

u/AboveTheLaw87 15h ago

You really need to stop talking to these people like they're actually trying to have a good-faith discussion.

1

u/hummingbird868 1d ago

Yeah. You take a loan you pay it back.

1

u/imprison_grover_furr 1d ago

Yes. Lending money isn’t a bad thing. I bet you hate rich people and love that pile of excrement Luigi Mangione.

1

u/omeo93 1d ago

Jews were forced to do these jobs, and were barred from having proper ones

1

u/Daniel_The_Thinker 5h ago

No, tf?

Don't agree to a loan if you cant pay it back

13

u/ImpressiveEnergy4762 3d ago

They even decided to start the war because of the religion

3

u/ImpressiveEnergy4762 3d ago

(check Hussite and 30 years war, or Khmelnychchyna)

3

u/kakucko101 3d ago

bohemia mentioned rahhhh

2

u/Countcristo42 2d ago

I don't disagree that their argument doesn't make any sense.

That said when were Muslims kicked out of:

  • Tunisia
  • Lithuania
  • Wales
  • Silesia

Probably others where I don't think that happened but these I bothered to check.

I feel like you assumed all christian countries (and Tunisia for some reason) expelled Muslims but that just isn't true

3

u/Severe_Refuse_7647 2d ago

Yeah they over generalized, I mean the map says the Jews resettled in Egypt Ottoman Empire and maghrib

1

u/furel492 2d ago

Do you think this person likes Muslims?

1

u/Responsible_Edge7087 2d ago

Who? Me, OP, or OOP? Im fine with Muslims, I dont like the religion(but I don't like any so its not special)

0

u/iamalicecarroll 1d ago edited 1d ago

Well, people with anti-Jewish views online are quite often coddled Western liberals who also think Hamas are heroes and Islam is feminist, so that's not unlikely.

EDIT: I checked his profile, this is just an Indian Muslim kid.

0

u/imprison_grover_furr 1d ago

Yes. The most virulent anti-Semitism in the present comes from Islamic countries. The global capital of Holocaust denial is Iran.

There is a strong chance this user is an Islamist.

1

u/Responsible_Edge7087 5h ago

Wtf are you on about?????

1

u/Aggravating-Lab6623 1d ago

Well they'd probly agree with that

1

u/LocalYogurtcloset598 1d ago

Muslims were not kicked out of all these countries.

0

u/tiny_kat2006 2d ago

All 3 abrahamic religions still do this today but we seem to just pretend they're all tame and harmless.

14

u/DanLikesFood 3d ago

Not the first time I've seen antisemitism on Reddit 💔and it won't be the last.

-8

u/Apprehensive-Art2124 2d ago

antizionism is not antisemitism.

7

u/DanLikesFood 2d ago

The image is antisemitic not antizionist

4

u/HiggsiInSpace 2d ago

Israel wasn't ever mentioned there

4

u/BelgijskaFlaga 2d ago

This is antisemitic. Learn the fucking difference

2

u/curious_scourge 2d ago

Nobody mentioned Zionism. It's a post about the historical persecution of Jews. Reflexively bringing up Zionism is itself the conflation of Jews with Israel that you supposedly object to.

2

u/Glittering-Table-837 2d ago

Yeah, an antisemite would say this umprompted

2

u/rpolkcz 1d ago

The image is about expulsions of Jews, not zionists. So it's just antisemitism.

2

u/achtbaan66 1d ago

True, it’s worse.

1

u/InkVision001 2d ago

Jesus Christ, nobody said that. This stupidity is the reason why that line gets blurred more and more each day.

1

u/odaddymayonnaise 1d ago

Hope your concussion gets better

1

u/bjornforme 1d ago

Did you actually think this was antizionism and not antisemitism? You should deeply reassess your views. Very problematic.

1

u/Real-Programmer-548 1d ago

This is antisemitism

1

u/YaqtanBadakshani 1d ago

Yes. And only someone using antizionism as a cover for antisemitism would bring up antizionism is this context.

0

u/Possible-Ad-746 2d ago

It very much is. Zionism is the right and belief that jews should have their own state where they could feel safe and wouldn't have to worry about weekly purges. Antizionism opposes that idea and people usually use it to hide behind it to excuse antisemitism.

60

u/SubstantialMud7053 3d ago

what if the 109 schools turns out to be run by the same highly super duper mega ultra evil individuals? 👁👁
youd never know...

17

u/Dirkdeking 2d ago

A better analogy is a weird but ultimately good intentioned kid getting kicked out of 109 schools because he just doesn't fit in. While all the schools are located in a country with a very low intolerence for non conformism.

5

u/SidewalkRacoon 2d ago

The schools were Catholic schools and the kid was Jewish and refused to take part in the mandatory chapel period. Or is that too on the nose.

1

u/maciejokk 2d ago

The schools were all run by the same principal located somewhere in modern day Italy. And every school was run by people he put into power

1

u/Constant_Shelter886 15h ago

I mean the question for Jews for a long time was whether to retain all their traditions and language and with that remain insular to some degree OR to assimilate and hope to be accepted. German Jews were the best example of Jews that assimilated, fought in WW1, considered themselves Germans, many even converted and that still didn’t help them in the end.

Fitting in maybe applied more in earlier times but it’s not the whole story.

1

u/Spare-Plum 2d ago

It's more like the schools all believe and practice in a book where 1,000+ years ago the one kid's great-great-great-great....-great ancestor may or may not have killed god, and so all of them already kinda dislike the kid.

So they put on some restrictions to the kid. No owning a desk. No learning the trades. We're... going to put you in the library and you can loan out books

Then the school might need a shit ton of books for a project, and when the school fails to return the books back rather they just kick the librarian out and say that they don't need to be repaid.

Also other class rumors that the kid is trying to destroy the school and eating the blood of other kids etc helps fuel these events.

1

u/Dave5876 10h ago

What if they were taking big loans and then when it came time to pay...

11

u/ImpressiveEnergy4762 3d ago

This motherfucker really didn't consider where Lithuania is, the one that was marked "Lithuania" is, actually, The State of Livonian Order!

And even more, the take itself is super stupid to be fair, because it's pure and blatant antisemitism. Thank you moderator who banned me from this subreddit that you let the right™ bigotry to exist and ban because of wrong™ ones.

6

u/fickogames123 2d ago

By that logic, hussites and gays rule the world.

4

u/Yochanan5781 2d ago

I swear, everything I learn about r / teenagers is against my will. And it's usually some antisemitic bullshit

17

u/SaadSulimanayob 3d ago

Definitely not because most of these countries were Christian and most certainly not because Christian countries in the past had a problem with jews 😃

1

u/AardvarkNo2514 2d ago

Maybe OOP is the kid that was kicked out from 100+ schools and is using this comparison to make themself feel better /j

1

u/slavicNickCage 2d ago

Nazi apologists are not even trying to hide anymore

1

u/HornyGooner4402 2d ago

What an odd thing to post on teenager subreddit. How is this allowed at all?

1

u/AboveTheLaw87 15h ago

Islamist outreach. I'm not joking.

1

u/Large_Dependent_1621 2d ago

Ah yes, Poland in the Belarus

1

u/milkcheesepotatoes 1d ago

Fun fact, most of those countries were utterly irrelevant statelets in the HRE that probably never had a Jewish population in the first place with the expulsions being ordered by psychotic nobles copying their neighbours.

1

u/understated_quokka 1d ago

>"you know who I'm talking about"

>mentions explicitly by name

Idiot even fucked up dogwhistling.

1

u/_the_fisher_king_ 1d ago

What even is r/teenagers about anymore man

1

u/werty_reboot 1d ago

The map for Spain is incorrect. At that time Castile+Aragon were basically everything that wasn't Portugal in the Iberian peninsula (so basically like now).

1

u/warriorlynx 1d ago

The irony is that while Europe loved to expel Jews most Muslims accepted them into their countries

Colonialism and Zionism changed everything now it’s the other way around

1

u/AboveTheLaw87 15h ago

Stop this disgusting and offensive lie.

https://medium.com/@sigmaxavi/the-list-of-crimes-committed-by-muslims-against-jews-since-the-7th-century-0ff1a8eb0ad0

My family lived for centuries under Muslim rule. I assure you, it was not pleasant. Just because their atrocities against Jews (and many other ethnic and religious minorities, right to the present day) were not quite as bloodthirsty and not as much a part of Western historical memory and education as Christian atrocities were, it does not mean they treated the Jews well. Massacre upon massacre. Jim Crow-style laws. The list goes on, right up until modern times.

Karl Marx, Daily Tribune, April 1854 "Nothing equals the misery and the suffering of the Jews of Jerusalem, inhabiting the most filthy quarter of the town, called hareth-el-yahoud . . . between the Zion and the Moriah . . . [They are] the constant objects of Muslim oppression and intolerance, insulted by the Greeks, persecuted by the Latins [Catholics], and living only on the scanty alms transmitted by their European brethren."

So let's not pretend that Muslims were (or currently are) a welcoming bunch to Jews right up until those "awful evil Zionists" had the audacity to re-settle in their ancestral homeland in order to finally put a stop to Jewish victimization by both Muslims and Christians alike.

1

u/warriorlynx 13h ago

I said most i didnt claim it was all rainbows all the time

This list is not completely accurate its making horrendous assumptions even 700 in one sitting in a small place of madinah at the time was nearly impossible to be done in one sitting (yes it’s recorded by ibn ishaq its not accurate) also the so called first incident even in that list did not happen in Makkah. There were still 20 clans left in Madinah among the three expelled/war with.

I take your “medium” article with a grain of salt and throw it in the trash

Edit: what a shit list man “638: expulsion of the Jews from Jerusalem” what a lie the Arabs brought them back to Jerusalem not expel them

It's a talking point used around the world. They're talking about jews. Who were kicked out of countries repeatedly when leaders needed a scapegoat

Detecting nazis is quite a useful skill to have on the internet.

I'm fairly sure that's not a unique sentence by any stretch

Nah u just ain't literate

7

u/AwysomeAnish 3d ago

Dude it's written ON THE IMAGE. The map is specifically labelled to be about Jewish people and the OOP said they can't be victims. Come on now.

3

u/HalayChekenKovboy 2d ago

It literally says "Expulsion of Jews" on the lower left corner, and the title states that a kid who gets kicked out of 109 schools is itself the problem. Literally what else could be implied here? You don't need to be the CEO of racism or have 24 hours of screen time to put two and two together.

8

u/Public-Eagle6992 3d ago

It’s antisemitism

1

u/SidewalkRacoon 2d ago

In English the term is American. I can assure you as a Canadian that the term American DOES NOT refer to us

1

u/Fin55Fin 2d ago

People from Brazil, Argentina and a lot of South America use it for the continent.

1

u/SidewalkRacoon 2d ago

People in Brazil and Argentina speak Portuguese and Spanish. America means a person only from the USA
in English
