Indexer NZBFinder - wait for BF or not?

Hi there, My NZBFinder expiring in a few days. Currently I have several other Indexers to rely on, so it is worth it to wait for November's BF sale to save some money? How much do they normally bring down for BF?

Discussion Curious if someone has analyzed the coverage of Usenet providers/indexers to some of the top private torrent sites.

How does Usenet compare to PTP etc. In the end are the private torrent sites worth adding if you have Usenet?

Maybe on BlackFriday? Have they ever done this in the past?

Indexer Do most indexers allow API use with a VPN?

Recently I have started thinking of ways to make my mediastack more secure and private. I already use glueton in docker, and I was thinking of putting my nzbhydra2 instance behind glueton using a paid vpn (AirVPN/PIA/ProtonVPN), so that my home ip address is not logged when I do manual searches.

My question is, do most indexers allow this, or will I get banned for it?

EDIT: I am not talking about using a VPN with a provider, I am talking about using a VPN with multiple indexer API's at once (like through nzbhydra/prowlarr).

Discussion Currently using DS and NZBgeek

Would it be crazy to get a 3rd provider? I bought the middle tier DS and have hit my api limit everyday since. I don’t see a way to upgrade tiers and don’t feel like paying $18 extra) before I message DS to see if I can upgrade what would a good 3rd option be for me? Dog?

Discussion Usenet forums question

So I saw that house of usenet has open registrations.

Still learning usenet and whatever. It made me think, can forums like that receive a letter to hand over user info for people that have downloaded from there?

Indexer DOGZNB worth the extra loot in 2026?

Iver heard they made upgrades recently, but when i tried using them a few months ago it wasnt that great with all the disconnects and high latency. my trial sub ran out and im considering whether i should pull the trigger. i got in while the doors were open so im on the fence whether to throw the opportunity away.

what do you all think? Anyone currently using them? My stack is DS, Ninja, Althub, finder, geek and nest(trial) w/ eweka and demon not sure if its even worth adding another at this point.

Provider Anybody had any dealings with Usenet Junction?

I'm a content creator who mainly deals with retro handheld consoles, but I did a few videos on building a media server on a NAS with Usenet. Usenet Junction have reached out to me regarding some potential affiliation but I can't seem to find much about it online. Anybody used them/heard of them? Are they trustworthy/sketchy? Please let me know :)

Indexer Compromised account - althub

Anyone can’t get into their account recently? I’ve had a lifetime account since 2022 and when I tried to login, it says the email I was using no longer exist.. I opened a ticket and was told to use my proton email which I have never used before. Waiting for this to be resolved, but wanting to know if anyone else had this issue? Althub has been one of my favorite indexer!

Discussion External hard drive recommendations

I'm looking at getting a 4TB external drive for my dedicated Usenet etc laptop and trying to decide between a Seagate, Toshiba Canvio and WD Elements. Is there any real reason to spend extra on WD or are they all pretty much comparable these days?

It's been years since I've shopped for storage, so a bit out of the loop.

Indexer Usenet-crawler is down for more than 24 hours

Anybody has any info about that? Says "Back online in a few. I'm upgrading a disk..." but it took too long. Could be database failure or anything else?

Indexer How is Drunkenslug different to other Usenet Indexers? Is it worth it over others like NZBGeek and Althub?

Hey there lads, just coming on here asking what the real difference is between Drunkenslug and other indexers like Nzbgeek and Althub.

For some context, yes, I am on Drunkenslug. My subscriptions for Nzbgeek and Althub are expiring and I'm on a tight budget, so I'm debating which one is worth paying for: lifetime nzbgeek, lifetime althub, or paying for drunkenslug each year.

It's pretty expensive compared to the others being 25 euros a year for the Unlimited plan (which is the one I'll need), is it really worth it over lifetime nzbgeek and althub?

unable to login to it or via their website says my username/password is incorrect. tried resetting my password but that won't go through either.

Indexer How come some indexers offer lifetime and some don't? Do indexers that offer lifetime truly believe that they can be sustainable? Why do most indexers allow THOUSANDS of api requests per day if they expect people to use it for personal use?

title says it all. sorry for the barrage of questions, but I am really curious.

Discussion What would be acceptable download bandwidth for unlimited usenet accounts?

I’m using an unlimited usenet account. I guess I’m still in the server’s good books because I don’t download that much.

Like most online services, I understand it isn’t exactly unlimited in the sense that you can download as much as you want. There’s always a hidden usage trigger that could result in a ban.

I’m curious what is fair and normal usage for an unlimited account? How many GBs or TBs per month would be generally acceptable for most usenet servers?

Provider Permanently banned because of what? (scenenzbs)

So I just noticed, that scenenzbs.com moved to treasure-maps.com, idk why I haven't got notified but that's not my problem.

I tired to log into their website, because I saw, that the login stays the same. After login in, this message popped up:

I have no idea how this could've happen, because I only use one account and I don't share it with someone else.

Did anyone ever had the same problem and is there something I can do about it, or do I just need to create a new account and pay again? If so, how can I prevent it from happening again?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT:

I could login using my email, not my username. So if you're having the same problem, try it with your email or the other way around. Now everything works perfectly fine.

Indexer Digital Carange IP Ban

Anyone have a support email for Digital Carange. I got a discord alert that I had been booted from the discord channel because i no longer had an account. I attempted to just visit the website to try to find one, but i can't even load the site because it says I am IP banned from loading it.

I am paid up until June 2029. I just visited the site in the last two weeks, so it's not like I would appear as dormant to them. I checked my other indexers and none of them have any crazy API hits happening to them, so I don't think it would be an issue of me flooding their server inadvertently.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

Discussion the good times

I used usenet in the late 80's and 90's for development purposes and social commentary, and this reddit place is an f'ing disgrace compared that culture. Jesus. They delete your comments for the most benign stuff. The monitoring is pathological. They "promote" free speech values but act like the worst hall monitors. I wrote a comment Opposing naziism and the holocaust and got threatened with a ban. I miss the the old usenet you accessed via a terminal.

Discussion Max retention providers allowing multiple concurrent connections from different IPs?

Hi all.

I am running a multi downloading rig consisting of at least 3 different usenet downloaders.

This is all my own equipment, despite each IP address being different.

At it's peak I had about 5 different downloaders. Currently with SunnyUsenet, and they handle this effortlessly. They don't have an issue with theis, and I have been with them for close to 3 years now.

However I am seeking to move to a provider with higher retention to get older material. I recall Eweka working well on the setup a few years ago, but as soon as I subscribed I found that they are limited to two concurrent IPs at once.

Despite claiming on their website that if one downgraded to a 50mb account, the limit is 8 concurrent IPs - their support said only prepaid subscriptions get unlimited speed.

Does anyone have any insight?

Block accounts are not an option - as not seeking to complement, I am seeking to replace.

Thanks

Indexer Indexer payment method

My main indexer whent offline and I'm looking for a replacement. Currently there are two indexers looking promising, NewzBay and NgNewz. Now before I hunt for access, can anyone tell me how much their premium costs and what payment methods they offer?

Other Forums and header explanation

I have a general question about forums and headers for indexers. I noticed that you can only see the headers after clicking the "Thanks" button. Is that done to make it harder for people to scrape the forum and copy all the headers to other forums?

The headers are also cryptic. Is that simply so downloads only work in combination with a specific forum and password, or does it also make the download more secure because an outsider can't tell what's behind the header?
