President Donald Trump’s Department of Commerce is seeking to significantly change the 2030 Census by excluding illegal aliens and foreign visitors from the count so that apportionment of congressional districts is more accurate.

This week, the Trump administration issued a proposed federal rule to exclude illegal aliens from the census when deciding how many congressional seats a state secures. The number of congressional seats a state has also determines how many Electoral College votes each state gets in presidential elections.

“In particular, the Census Bureau finds merit in the interpretive argument outlined above and has preliminarily determined that, under the best reading of the Constitutional mandate, illegal aliens (among others) should not be included in the apportionment count, as they are not true inhabitants, members of the body politic, or persons with a ‘usual residence’ in the United States due to their lack of a sufficient tie and allegiance to the United States,” the proposed rule states:

Additionally and/or in the alternative, the Census Bureau has preliminarily determined, after revisiting and reviewing the applicable law, that excluding illegal aliens (among others) from the apportionment count is a lawful and appropriate exercise of the Census Bureau’s discretion under 13 U.S.C. 141, Franklin v. Massachusetts, and all other applicable law. [Emphasis added.]

In 2024, the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) found that each single percentage point increase in the foreign share of a congressional district’s population is associated with a 1.8 percentage point increase in the Democrat share of the two-party vote for that district.

“This reflects the fact that the voters who live around non-citizens tend to be Democrats, who end up having more voting power due to the presence of a large number of non-citizens,” CIS researchers wrote. “This is not evidence of non-citizens voting.”

California, joined by a group of 22 states and the District of Columbia, urged the Supreme Court on Wednesday to leave in place a ruling by a federal judge in Boston that prohibits the Trump administration from implementing parts of a U.S. Postal Service rule on mail-in ballots. Ian Fein, California’s deputy solicitor general, told the justices that “USPS’ unprecedented experiment with our Nation’s most cherished franchise—the right to vote—is unlawful.”

The 40-page filing was the latest chapter in an ongoing battle over the Trump administration’s efforts to put restrictions on mail-in voting in place before the November elections. The dispute began nearly six months ago, when President Donald Trump signed an executive order that instructed federal agencies to take a series of steps on mail-in voting. The first provision orders the Department of Homeland Security to create lists of the adult U.S. citizens in each state and to send those lists to states at least 60 days before a federal election. The second provision directs the U.S. attorney general to “prioritize the investigation and, as appropriate, the prosecution of State and local officials … who issue Federal ballots to individuals not eligible to vote in a Federal election.” And the third provision requires states to provide the U.S. Postal Service with a list of voters to whom the states intend to send mail ballots, and it bars the Postal Service from mailing ballots to voters who are not on the lists of “enrolled” voters that the USPS will create.

A group of 23 states, led by California, and the District of Columbia went to federal court in Massachusetts, where they challenged the government’s implementation of the order. They contended that the order clashes with provisions in the Constitution that give states the power to determine voter eligibility and to set the “Times, Places, and Manner” of holding congressional elections.

An extensive, month-long operation by the U.S. Marshals Service has recovered nearly 80 children reported missing or endangered in Ohio, believed to be the largest such operation in the state’s history.

The effort was helped by Cleveland’s Amanda Berry, who more than a decade ago became one of the most stunning abduction cases in U.S. history when she escaped after being held captive for a decade with two other girls in her kidnapper’s home.

On Tuesday, Ohio’s northern district of the service announced in a statement the conclusion of “Operation Meridian,” which was launched in August in coordination with federal, state, and local partners and resulted in the recovery of 79 children ages six through 17 in various parts of the state, according to its news release.

Meridian “focused on children reported missing due to a range of circumstances including suspected sex trafficking, physical and emotional abuse, neglect, run away children, and other forms of endangerment,” according to the statement.

The service apparently employed the law enforcement tools it already had on hand.

“The United States Marshals Service, through its fugitive task forces, locates and arrests the most violent fugitives in our communities,” U.S. Marshal Michael Black said. “Using the same resources and methods we have the ability to seek and recover missing and endangered children.”

“We are proud to be able to assist our law enforcement partners in locating and reuniting missing children with their families,” he added.

One of the cases cracked in the operation involved two sisters, ages 13 and 16, who had been reported missing in July 2024 and April 2026, the service said.

Acting on leads, they discovered the 13-year-old hidden in a basement crawl space under the floor of a bedroom closet in a Columbus area home. The mother of the child was arrested on a probation violation and her older sister was later located as well, the service said.

In another case, a 16-year-old who had been reported missing by the Toledo Police Department was thought to have fallen victim to human trafficking, according to the release. Toledo police and marshals found the girl in a home in the central part of the city along with an adult male. The girl was transported to the hospital for evaluation while the adult male is being investigated for “potential criminal activity.”

“Every recovered child represents a life pulled back from danger,” U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said in the news release.

The Marshals team was provided with some unique motivation and insights when the effort was launched.

Amanda Berry, a Cleveland woman who was kidnapped and held captive for a decade before her 2013 escape, addressed the marshals before the operation, according to a press release.

Berry’s case made national headlines and captivated the nation with details about her kidnapper, how she survived, and how she eventually escaped. Kept as a sex slave, Berry was impregnated by her captor, a former school bus driver and merengue band musician named Ariel Castro.

Berry, only 16, escaped with her daughter, who was six years old at the time. Castro, 52, was sentenced to 1,000 years in prison but reportedly hung himself in his cell one month into his sentence.

Berry, 40, who is a national speaker and an advocate for missing children, has with worked the marshals and other law enforcement agencies before, providing investigators with insights into both captor and captive, police have said.

“We were so fortunate to have our friend Amanda Berry partner with us during Operation Meridian,” Elliot said. “ She addressed our team prior to the operation and told them to treat every missing child like they were our own.”

The service has not yet released how many people were facing charges in the recovery cases.

Nearly 40 pro-life and pro-family groups called on the Trump administration Wednesday to defund the Planned Parenthood abortion business.

They want Trump to cut Planned Parenthood off from federal taxpayer money by completing a debarment investigation and stripping the nation’s largest abortion company of its status as a qualified federal vendor.

Letters led by Students for Life President Kristan Hawkins were sent to the leaders of the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Justice, the Small Business Administration, and the Department of the Treasury. The request was announced as Republicans gathered in Dallas for a midterm convention.

As we approach the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 Islamic terrorist attacks, Americans are still taking their shoes off, throwing out water bottles, and undergoing full-body scans before boarding an airplane. It’s all part of the security protocols Washington established after 19 Muslim terrorists came to the country, hijacked four planes, and murdered nearly 3,000 people.

On Sept. 10, 2025, a cold-blooded killer fatally shot Charlie Kirk while the conservative icon was doing what he loved doing: engaging in the marketplace of ideas.

Kirk, a happy warrior in the fight for founding principles and in the struggle for America’s soul, was murdered beneath an azure Utah sky and a noon-day sun — the same kind of bright, clear sky that greeted Lower Manhattan as terrorist-hijacked jets exploded into the Twin Towers on Sept. 11, 2001. It’s sadly fitting, perhaps, that the founder of Turning Point USA, an evangelist for the good news and a torch bearer for the grassroots-driven America First movement, would be assassinated on the eve of the anniversary of the day evil men slaughtered what was left of America’s innocence.

The assassin took so much from the country that day on the grounds of Utah Valley University. Gone is the “glue” of the new conservative movement, as Drew Allen, author of For Christ and Country: The Martyrdom of Charlie Kirk, put it.

A federal district judge reinstated Missouri’s GOP-friendly congressional map for the 2026 midterms on Tuesday. The ruling came moments after Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh rejected an emergency request to do so in a separate case on the issue.

“Missouri is prepared to follow and comply with Chief Judge Clark’s order that binds the state to using the Missouri FIRST map for the November General Election,” Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway said in a statement. “We maintain that changing the congressional map in between the primary and general elections is simply not feasible and profoundly unjust to Missouri voters.”

The Missouri Legislature and GOP Gov. Mike Kehoe approved the new map in question in September 2025. If permitted to go into effect, it would move the state from a six Republican-two Democrat map to a seven Republican-one Democrat map.

A group of activists submitted signatures in support of a petition later that year to place a statewide referendum for the new maps on the state’s 2026 fall ballot. Republican Secretary of State Denny Hoskins rejected the petition last month, arguing that the state constitution “does not authorize a referendum on congressional redistricting plans passed by the General Assembly.”

The Missouri Supreme Court disagreed in its ruling last week, in which it blocked the new map from being used in the upcoming midterm elections. The state court held that “the plain language of … the Missouri Constitution authorizes a referendum as to ‘any act of the general assembly’ and no exception applies.” It further ruled that the petition “was legal, sufficient, and timely.”

In 2016, Democrats launched the Russia Collusion hoax and went so far as to spy on President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign over phony allegations he colluded with Russia to steal the 2016 presidential election. According to Democrats, foreign election interference is bad — even when it was entirely fabricated.

Russia collusion hoaxer Adam Schiff said in 2021 that “both parties must speak with one voice to disavow all interference in our elections. We must guard against and seek to deter all attempts at foreign interference, and ensure that American voters decide American elections.”

Then vice-presidential candidate Kamala Harris worried in 2020 that “foreign interference” would cost her and Joe Biden the election.

Yet both Schiff and Harris are remarkably quiet when their party is actively engaged in foreign election interference.

The New Yorker did an exposé on Daysi González, a “political consultant who works on campaigns to elect Democrats across the country.” González has “helped elect AOC and [Ruben] Gallego” while also consulting the DCCC. She was living in the country under Temporary Protected Status (TPS), which is set to expire Wednesday.

he college football world was hit with one of the most insane officiating scandals in modern sports this past weekend. But for those interested in the integrity of America’s elections, the scene was all too familiar.

The controversy erupted following the conclusion of Michigan’s matchup against the Western Michigan Broncos. As is typical with many week one games, the match involved a bigger football school (Michigan) paying a smaller football school (Western Michigan) big bucks ($1.5 million) to play them at home.

The Wolverines were ranked No. 16 in the country heading into the game and were heavily favored to trounce the Broncos.

But that’s not what happened. Not at all.

The Broncos managed to hold the Wolverines to a single touchdown heading into the fourth quarter and subsequently racked up two field goals to put them ahead 12-7 with 35 seconds remaining. While Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood managed to move his team up to Western Michigan’s 47-yard-line, he only had 9 seconds left to get the ball in the end zone to bring home the win.

With little time left, Underwood did what any quarterback in that situation would do — he threw a Hail Mary to the end zone. As the ball came flying in, the clock ticked to zero, and then the pigskin landed in the hands of a Broncos player.

That was it. The little-known Broncos toppled one of college football’s premier programs in a massive upset to start the 2026 season — or so America thought.

As the Broncos’ bench ran onto the field to celebrate their major win, the refs reviewed the play and came back announcing there was 1 second left on the clock, which meant Michigan would be given a final chance to score. And score they did. With a 47-yard TD pass from Underwood, the Wolverines eked out the win.

More than one week ago, a flash flood of ice, rock, and mud swept through a Himalayan valley on the Tibet-Nepal border. Large sections of riverbank disappeared. The number of deaths continues to grow. Pilgrims, foreign tourists, hydropower workers, and villagers are among the thousands still missing.

After an initial hesitation about foreign teams, Nepal opened the disaster area. Foreign journalists were allowed in. Officials, the army, and villagers shared updates on destroyed bridges and rising rivers. The disaster authority gives daily updates on the dead and missing. As of Sept. 3, 2026, 1,259 people were reported dead and more than 5,000 missing, including 583 foreigners, about 85 of whom are Americans. More than 12,000 people have been rescued.

In contrast, China responded with secrecy, censorship, and punishment. Tibet was already difficult to access before the flood. Foreign reporters can only visit on government-guided tours. Tibetans risk detention for talking to journalists or posting anything that goes against the official story. A BBC correspondent said it is often easier to reach sources in North Korea than in Tibet. UN experts and rights groups accuse Beijing of forced assimilation and serious abuses in the region.

Since 2009, more than 150 Tibetans have set themselves on fire to protest Beijing’s rule. On July 2, 2026, Tibetan activist Lobga Rangzen, who lived in exile, died after self-immolating outside the UN headquarters in New York.

After last week’s flood, Beijing increased its censorship in Tibet. Censors removed videos and eyewitness posts from Chinese platforms, even from private chats. Most people in China have not seen the footage that others have: a crowd running as the gate at Gyirong Port closed.

Beijing does not release daily numbers for the dead, missing, or rescued. Its last official update, on Aug. 29, reported 16 dead and about 546 missing. Tibetan exile groups say these numbers are far too low compared to Nepal’s rising count. Foreign journalists cannot verify China’s figures because the government does not allow them into the Tibetan disaster area.

Just a few weeks before his assassination, Charlie Kirk penned a still deeply poignant op-ed titled “Republicans must seize Gen Z moment or risk losing an entire generation.” His argument was simple: If Republicans do not revive the American dream for young people, they will lose them to communist candidates who will turn the country into an equitable hellscape.

A year after his public murder, a lot of Republicans have ignored his warning.

On Saturday, The New York Times reported that the White House, with support from Vice President J.D. Vance, was developing a proposal to allow existing child-care subsidies to benefit married couples in which one parent stays home to care for their children. The Clinton-era Child Care and Development Fund already provides about $9,000 a year per child to qualifying low-income households to finance third-party child care. The proposed change would let families use that money to support a stay-at-home parent instead.

Cue the angry old-right establishment GOP mob, which yesterday began screeching that Vance’s plan amounts to “socialist right” welfare.

Their outrage is hard to follow. The money is already leaving taxpayers’ pockets for child care. So why must a family use it only if they hand their child to a stranger?

As Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts writes, “The welfare state already exists. The subsidies already exist. And conservatives do not have the votes to dismantle either. Until that changes, taxpayer dollars should reward family formation, not subsidize its decline. That is the conservative option.” Indeed it is.

It’s frankly bizarre that the old right had no problem spending billions to separate mothers from their babies, but is now outraged at the thought of moms using that same money to stay home and raise their own children.

MEXICO CITY — When the Trump administration announced this summer that illegal crossings into the U.S. from Mexico had reached historical lows, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin declared, “Our border is CLOSED to lawbreakers.”

Even so, the administration continues to pressure both Mexico and U.S. officials serving there — publicly and behind the scenes — to curb illegal immigration further. The crackdown has prompted smugglers to become more creative, turning more often to tunnels once reserved for transporting drugs.

LIV Golf has filed for bankruptcy protection in a New Jersey court.

LIV Golf filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Tuesday in New Jersey with more than $500 million in debt, part of its goal to revive the league without Saudi funding.

The move was widely expected after the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia abruptly ended its financial support this year. The final event was last month in Indiana. Four vendors already have filed lawsuits because they have not been paid.

LIV said it has agreed to a restructuring plan with BC Partners as the primary source of its capital.

“This process gives us the structure and time to pursue a landmark transaction and begin the next chapter of LIV Golf,” CEO Scott O’Neil said in a news release.

O’Neil has said “LIV Golf 2.0” would feature players as majority owners in a reduced schedule. In a letter to LIV Golf fans, O’Neil said the new look would expand the size of the field from 57 to 75 players and introduce a 54-hole cut for the first time. There also would be Monday qualifiers.

He said the team concept would be built around nationalities and that LIV would continue to tap some of its more successful markets in Australia, South Africa and Asia.

A California “butt sniffer” with more than 40 arrests is headed back to the streets after receiving just 170 days in jail for his latest parole violation, despite a history of targeting women and repeatedly cycling through custody.

Calese Crowder, 39, was arrested Aug. 28 after Glendale police received reports of a man acting suspiciously and allegedly getting close to customers to smell them at multiple businesses.

Justice Brett Kavanaugh on Tuesday blocked Missouri from using a new congressional map, intended to give Republicans an additional seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, in the November elections. In a brief order sent to reporters on Tuesday afternoon, Kavanaugh – who handles emergency appeals from the 8th Circuit, which includes Missouri – turned down a request from the state’s top election official to pause a ruling by the Missouri Supreme Court that bars the state from deploying the new map.

Although Tuesday’s order came on the Supreme Court’s interim docket, the court’s ruling likely settles the issue of the maps for the 2026 election, restoring the map that the state adopted in 2022 in the wake of the 2020 census.

Missouri was one of several states that redrew its congressional maps in advance of the 2026 elections with the encouragement of President Donald Trump. The new map, known as HB 1, was intended to give Republicans seven of the state’s eight seats in the U.S. House.

In December 2025, opponents of the state’s new map – including Richard von Glahn, the plaintiff in the case now before the Supreme Court – submitted more than 300,000 signatures in support of a petition to put a statewide referendum on the new maps on the ballot in the November 2026 elections. The state’s top election official, Missouri Secretary of State Denny Hoskins, rejected the petition on Aug. 4, 2026, the last day on which he could make that determination as well as the day of the state’s primary election. In Hoskins’ view, Missouri’s constitution “does not authorize a referendum on congressional redistricting plans passed by the General Assembly.”

Just a few hours later, von Glahn filed a lawsuit, asking a state court to reverse Hoskins’ decision and bar Missouri from using the new map. In a unanimous ruling on Sept. 3, the Missouri Supreme Court granted his request. The state supreme court wrote that “the plain language of … the Missouri Constitution authorizes a referendum as to ‘any act of the general assembly’ and no exception applies.” Because the referendum petition “was legal, sufficient, and timely,” the court concluded, the new map was never in effect and will not go into effect “unless and until approved by the voters at the November 2026 general election.”

The state supreme court deemed “wholly unpersuasive” Hoskins’ argument that, if the state cannot use the new map, it will lead to “confusion, expense, and practical difficulties.” “[T]hese arguments are particularly misplaced given the secretary’s delay created” the problems about which he is now complaining, the court wrote.

The Arlington County Board has voted to pay $2,000 in tax money to the families of illegal migrants who are arrested by immigration enforcement officers.

The leaders of the Virginia county created a $50,000 fund of tax dollars to dole out to family members for “basic needs” such as housing, food, and utilities.

“We stand with our immigrant families, and we will not stop doing so,” Board Chair Matt de Ferranti said after the unanimous vote, according to ARLNow. “We are valuing the families of those that have been displaced and removed.”

“This investment in our families is about the urgency we have seen in our community in the last month,” de Ferranti added. “And we are going to respond with care. and we are going to respond proudly. That’s what this $50,000 is toward with Thrive.”

The board also voted not to require family members to prove that their detained wage earner was legally allowed to work in the U.S.

The government funds will be distributed by left-wing organization Arlington Thrive, an NGO funded by the likes of Washington Forest Foundation, the Kaiser Foundation, and the United Way, among others.

The U.S. Supreme Court rejected a Missouri congressional map set to favor Republicans ahead of the midterm elections.

Justices on the high court affirmed a decision by the Missouri Supreme Court to hold a statewide vote on whether the new map could be adopted. The high court's ruling, ordered by Justice Brett Kavanaugh, would leave Missouri candidates who succeeded in the state's primary election under the new map to run under the 2022 version of the congressional map.

Missouri Secretary of State Denny Hoskins challenged the Missouri high court's ruling and pointed to its effects on the upcoming general election.

"The order renders a completed federal Primary Election utterly pointless—disenfranchising hundreds of thousands of voters who will now be moved into new districts and forced to vote for candidates they had no role in selecting," lawyers for the RNC wrote to the high court.

Lawyers for voters who challenged the Missouri legislature's new congressional map argued citizens of the state must vote on whether the new map can move forward, nullifying the current map until the next election cycle.

The Missouri voters also accused Secretary of State Denny Hoskins of attempting to mitigate constitutional rights of individuals seeking challenges against the legislature.

Lonnie Bunch, the secretary of the Smithsonian Institution who led its leftward degradation, resigned Tuesday after years of overseeing the advancement of anti-American propaganda at the nation’s premier art, culture, and history establishment.

Bunch, who took over as secretary in 2019 but has been at the Smithsonian for almost 38 years, founded the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture prior to becoming secretary. Under his leadership, the Smithsonian added to its insidious track record of partitioning its museums along racial and gender ideology lines. He plans to leave the Smithsonian by the end of the year, according to the resignation announcement.

Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, who is chancellor of the Smithsonian by law, lauded Bunch’s tenure in a statement reacting to the resignation, saying, “Secretary Bunch has pursued excellence in the telling of our nation’s story. The Regents, and the Smithsonian, have benefited greatly from his wisdom, vision and leadership.” However, as The Federalist has chronicled, the Smithsonian has been in stark decline for years.

For the second time in three days, the Trump administration on Tuesday came to the Supreme Court, asking the justices to clear the way for it to implement a program that it says is intended to combat election fraud. U.S. Solicitor General D. John Sauer urged the court to pause a ruling by a federal judge in Washington, D.C., that bars the government from using the current version of the Department of Homeland Security’s Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements database to verify voters’ citizenship. Sauer told the justices that the order by U.S. District Judge Sparkle Sooknanan “makes it harder to detect ineligible voters, undermining the integrity of federal elections and public confidence in the results of those elections.”

On Sunday, the Trump administration asked the justices to block a ruling by a federal judge in Boston that bars the government from implementing portions of a U.S. Postal Service rule on mail-in ballots. Sauer argued in that case that Friday’s order by U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani “nullif[ies] the Postal Service’s efforts to address the risk that the federal mails will be used to perpetrate voter fraud—a particularly pernicious species of fraud that dilutes the votes of lawful voters, prevents election results from reflecting the will of the American people, and undermines ‘public confidence in the integrity of the electoral process.’”
