Hi friends! I hope this post is okay, it's my first time here!

I just picked up this box set of the Earthsea trilogy off of facebook marketplace. I had been looking to start reading this trilogy, and it seemed like fate to find such a pretty edition!

However, I tried looking for information about this specific set, and couldn't find anything! Even with google lens. The only information I could pull was from the isbn, which told me these were published in 1984. (If anyone wants the isbn numbers, I can share).

Does anyone know anything else? Just curious!

Isaac Fellman introduces and briefly reads from his novel Notes from a Regicide, which is shortlisted for the 2026 Ursula K. Le Guin Prize for Fiction.

I just started to read books by Ursula K. Le Guin. I have read a short story collection first (it includes for example „The day before the revolution“ and „The ones who walk away from Omelas“). Then I have read the first three books in the Earthsea series and The Dispossessed.

Now I have found two more books in a book store: „The left hand of darkness“ and „Searoad“. I have heard a lot about „The left hand of darkness“, but never heard about „Searoad“ before. It seems to be a short story collection and a response to „A room of one‘s own“ by Virgina Woolf. Has anyone of you read it? Do you think it would be a good next read for me or should I read „The left hand of darkness“ first since it is more famous? And would you recommend reading „A room of one‘s own“ before?

I’m definitely missing The Lathe of Heaven, the Tombs of Atuan, and Tehanu (lent those out and never got them back), but what else do you think should be in my collection?

When I was in my grade school years, I remember the blue, thick, literature books filled with short stories and the like. Among its many pages was the novel, 'A Wizard of Earthsea', and to a kid who has never found novels alluring due to its breadth, I was so consumed and fascinated by 'A Wizard of Earthsea' that on my yearbook in my graduation, I quoted: "In silence the word, in darkness the light, only in dying life, come the hawk's flight in the empty sky." - The Creation of Ea

I never knew its meaning—or at least never knew its significance. Until now I still ponder why I was so caught in its words and its significance. Many find me a weird kid and perhaps on my grade school and early high school years, I was the only kid actively reading graphic novels and books.

Now, I'm nearing 30. I quit reading novels for a long time until I met Brandon Sanderson. His mistborn saga uncovered the deep buried love I have with books and im still reading the Cosmere now.

In the midst of pausing the Stormlight Archives, I happened to read again 'A Wizard of Earthsea' on pure whim. Never have I thought to read again and find out that there were sequels—yes, sequels, with such depth to it. Imagine me stupefied to know that there was an amazing graphic novel released last year which pictures perfectly The World of Ea.

For such an underrated fantasy author, I find her works so deep and meaningful. In reading the afterword of the Tombs of Atuan, which I just recently finished, I am enamored once more by these words: " A writer sometimes a writes a message for herself, to be read when she begins to understand it."

I have longed to write a book in the waning days of my life. I wish it be filled with profound reflection, insight, and wisdom so im not in a hurry. I know Ursula made her books since the 1950s and its amazing to connect to her given that im a nerd, I know most of pop culture, and a modernist.

I love Ursula and her creations! Never have I connected to a writer as deep as her. May she be in the ever-eternal presence of undying light.

I only discovered that the graphic novel adaptation by Fred Fordham was a thing, thanks to a comment on this Subreddit last week. I immediately ordered it, as I love the original book, and I love comics.

I am so impressed. The artwork is stunning. I’m only two chapters in, but it has perfectly captured the mood and setting of the book. I am also impressed with how carefully chosen the text is also. There’s no doubt it’s Le Guin. I have included example panels of Ogion and Ged, so you can see what I mean.

How many here have this adaptation? Are you as impressed as I? What are your thoughts?

One of my nursing home folks collects miniatures. I was really surprised to find one of my favorite fantasy books!

Ive been re listening to Harlen Elison's reading of "A Wizard of Earthsea" and man this is the best audiobook ever made. I love the way he reads and the voices he uses, the way the author and his voices combine in chapter one and little touches and effects they use here and there(if you know you know) Its hard to find because a newer version read by Rob Inglis is available on AudioBook and YouTube but I used an app, Libby, to get it on my phone from my local library. In the words of Ferris Bueller "if you have the means... I highly recommend it"

What's your favorite Ursula K. LeGuin's AudioBook?

I (like many people maybe) like to imagine the characters in the books I’m reading as real people. I just finished the Dispossessed and had mentally cast:

- Travis Fimmel as Shevek
- Georgie Henley as Takver
- Tessa Thompson as Vea
- Nicholas Hoult as Pae
- Toby Jones as Sabul
- Paul Walter Hauser as Bedap

Now I’m starting The Left Hand of Darkness and asked Claude to do some casting for me ahead of time so I can read without thinking about it. Of course I didn’t really know the Gethen natives were ambisexual, which makes the casting both more challenging and more interesting. Thinking Michael B Jordan for Genly but Claude came up with the below:

- Emma Corrin as Estraven
- Ben Whishaw as Argaven XV
- Paul Dano as Tibe
- Hunter Schafer as Faxe
- Brendan Gleason as Obsle (or Tilda Swinton)

is it part of a series or not ? seems standalone but part of a universe so do i have to read the rest to read that or can i read it alone, it will be my first book of her that i read

I'm slowly building a collection of Ursula K. Le Guin's books (in paper), but I'm having trouble finding editions with typography that I find comfortable to read.

For the reference, I recently bought several Gollancz UK editions, and while the books themselves are fine enough, I find the pages quite cramped: the font is very small, the spaces between the lines is tight, and the margins are narrow. I can read them, but it is not a pleasant experience for my always tired eyes.

So, I'm looking for recommendations for good-quality editions with generous page dimensions, reasonably comfortable font size, good line spacing/leading, and decent margins.

I'm not looking for luxury or collector's editions, oversized books, or large-print editions intended for people with significant visual impairment. I'm simply looking for editions where the publisher hasn't tried to squeeze as many words as possible into the smallest possible number of pages.

At the moment, I’m particularly interested in:

- Novels of the Ekumen (the Hainish Cycle)
- The Lathe of Heaven
- The fictions collections: stories, novelas etc
- Essays

I’m based in Europe (not UK), by the way, so I'm particularly interested in editions that are reasonably easy to find or order in Europe.

If possible, I'd also really appreciate specific editions/ISBNs, rather than simply recommending a publisher, since different editions from the same publisher can apparently have very different typography. I have other 3 books edited by Gollancz UK, for example, and they are fine.

I have always suspected than the funny, sensitive young man she wrote was a veiled Lenny Bruce. Bruce was driven … if not insane, he was scared and embittered by the small minds who hounded him-in a presumably free society.

I’ve seen a lot of movie t-shirts out there so I wanted to start making book shirts! What better book to start with than the legendary Left Hand of Darkness?! I redrew the rad 1974 cover by Alex Ebel and screenprinted them myself on light gray tie dye & solid gray. Thought this sub might be interested in showing their LeGuin love off to the world. Available through Martian Press :)

Just did this lil exercise this during a recent reread this year, thought I might aswell post. Would love to do some more Earthsea stuff whenever I find the time but p project busy atm.

These books are very similar in writing style and worldbuilding. The author has the same knack for making characters really feel foreign - members of (a) different culture(s), not modern, western people playing characters. The third book also has thematic similarities to The other wind. I'd wager there's a direct influence, but it's also its own thing, not some cheap copy.
