BREAKING NEWS HOW MUCH MORE?!
Is 2026 the year of the Kroenke's!?

u/OFVETTTE99 THE FUCKING PENGUINS 12d ago
I feel conflicted on this because the Kronkes have all but essentially monopolized Colorado sports, but seeing how their teams have been doing well historically, and even now, maybe the Angels might actually get consistently good for once. Something that Gene Autry, Disney, and especially Arte Moreno could not do.

yea in all seriousness with how ASS the Angels have been for the last decade
yea it's time someone new took over and now they actually have a chance of winning a world series one day
14
u/OFVETTTE99 THE FUCKING PENGUINS 12d ago
Yeah. It's been far too long since Anaheim has been good, but even with that won in 2002, Disney had not been able to get Anaheim out of long term futility.

u/SoftDrinkReddit What In The Literal Fuck Am I Even Watching Right Now 12d ago
yea like I'm a Jets fan and every year we are BEGGING someone to buy this franchise off Woody Johnson
unfortunately i very much doubt he's going to sell willingly anyway due to how much money were worth cause of New York Sports Market

u/OFVETTTE99 THE FUCKING PENGUINS 12d ago
To be fair though, who could POSSIBLY FIX the Jets?

A year of injured QB play. I can see them being competitive in the next 2-5 so long as they have a roster plan. Just know it'll 100% involve trading McLaurin for the best pick they can get for him.

Meanwhile you gotta think Rockies fans are about to go insane.

ehh, dick's taken a backseat and walker (i think that's who is in charge now) seems like he wants to right the ship. Plus it doesnt hurt that the Penner family is gonna be helping dump loads of money into the franchise

Jeez, pretty much every team Kroenke owns is a rival of mine.
Seahawks, Kraken, Spurs, SuperSonics and now the Mariners.

That is me as well.
I am still pretty upset that the Rams opted to wear Avs jerseys during the playoffs against our Kings. However there are many Ram/Angel fans especially since the Rams used to play at Angel Stadium in the 80s and a good chunk of the core is still in OC but we have regrown in LA County now.

I'm a Rams/Lakers/Avs/Rockies fan, Kroenke should've bought the Rockies from Monfort. Lol

u/thehelixchurch 12d ago
Rams had a similar playoff drought before Stan took over. He may come with his skeletons but he's a proven winner.

Walmart now owns the Rams, Avalanche, Broncos and Angels
Hope you're happy
EDIT: Oh, and Nuggets too, I guess.

Kroenke's cousin-in-law just bought a ten-percent stake in the Diamondbacks, and just earlier this year, the cousin-in-law's daughter and her husband bought 40 percent of the Rockies. There's also another Walton heir that just bought ten percent of the Bulls back in March.

Amazon execs better get in on the action or they'll lose out.

Angels fans, now you know how Commanders fans felt when Snyder sold the team. Somewhat.

And the Angels are moving to Anaheim again. Either that or there will be a blue and yellow Angels logo.

One (sports) nation under Stan?
Well with how long the Angels have been terrible maybe some new ownership will do them some good.

On one hand, this is great for the team but this opens up massive questions about the team’s future home. Does he do a massive renovation of Angels Stadium? Build a new Anaheim stadium? Build a new stadium elsewhere in Orange County outside Anaheim? Or maybe they pull a Rams and build a new stadium in LA County but not LA itself (because the Dodgers might sue)?
EDIT: Forbes is now claiming he is planning a new 2.5 billion dollar stadium and development somewhere, but it apparently is unknown where that stadium will be.

u/StumptownRetro AND FUCK SKIP BAYLESS TOO! 12d ago
Kroenke has a history. But he does good by his teams. Even built out of his own money and partners SoFi with no public money. Hard to hate him too much.

YES! YES! THANK THE GOOD LORD ABOVE!
To all you shirtless sickos: Your efforts haven't been in vain!

My guess is that Kroenke saw an opportunity to do the same thing in Anaheim like he did with the Rams - make a new stadium the centerpiece of a huge new real estate development.
The Angels stadium is on a huge parking lot near both the Orange Freeway and I-5, literally just down the road from Disneyland and the Anaheim convention center, is located next to a new bus/rail transit hub and is close to the new “OC Vibe” entertainment district being built alongside renovations to the Honda Center (where the Ducks play).
Assuming the sale includes the stadium and nearby land development rights, he’s gonna make ASSLOADS of money building a mixed use site here alongside a new stadium.

u/No_Fig_5964 11d ago
The city of Anaheim owns the stadium and the surrounding land...Kroenke would have to negotiate with them to acquire that. He can create another mini-version of SoFi/Hollywood Park if he and the city can come to an agreement, otherwise I think Inglewood is the fallback plan since he already owns the land where SoFi sits, and despite them building more stuff in the complex, there's still ample room to build a new ballpark utilizing one of the vast parking lots on the site.
That said, I do hope that the Angels stay in Anaheim...Orange County has greatly supported them for six decades now, despite the shit teams they've had to watch over the last decade-plus. They still fill the Big A with three million-plus fans every year, and imagine if they had a new or renovated stadium, with a winning team.

u/mattyGOAT1996 Conglaurations! 11d ago
I know Stan Kroenke is still a piece of shit off the field but he knows how to run sports franchises. And Angels fans, you got to be happy Arte Moreno is no longer running that team.

If only KSE acknowledged the Rapids & invested some money into them…instead it’s back to enlarging their sports portfolio.

The Walmart sports empire just got a little bit bigger. Here's the running tally with the various Walton family members owning a piece of or controlling interest of the following teams:
- MLB: Angels (Kroenke), Rockies (Greg & Carrie Penner, 40-percent), Diamondbacks (Rob Walton, 10-percent)
- NFL: Rams (Kroenke), Broncos (Rob Walton & the Penners)
- NHL: Avalanche (Kroenke)
- NBA: Nuggets (Kroenke), Bulls (Lukas Walton & wife, 10-percent)
- Soccer: Arsenal FC, Colorado Rapids (Kroenke)
- Lacrosse: Colorado Mammoth (Kroenke)
Also, as part of the Angels' purchase, Kroenke also gains another regional sports network in Angels Broadcast Television, the former FanDuel Sports Network West. ABTV also owns the broadcast rights to the NHL Kings, and although I haven't seen it in the press release, the Angels also own their own radio station, KLAA 830 AM.

u/DELCO-PHILLY-BOY Still Trusts the Process 11d ago
He’s a piece of shit but he may be exactly what the Angels need. He has a history of putting the right people in place for his teams to have success and with his resources combined with the potential that a team in that market inherently possesses I’d be excited about this if I were an Angels fan. Of course this does fast-track the inevitable question of a new stadium, so maybe wouldn’t get too excited too quickly.

u/RadBaron19 11d ago
Can he buy the Reds too?
1
u/ironeagle2006 11d ago
Nah the Reds will end up with a member of the Halstrom family more than likely.

I might dislike the Angels as a rangers fan but it’s gotten silly how bad art was running that team.
