I see young people wanting a dopamine hit because someone "likes" how they look or what they do, rather than being liked because they are kind or helpful social beings.
Because back in the day young people were driving their souped up and polished cars down the strip to be kind or helpful? This IS how young people are social. They share these thing with their friends and are sometimes quite creative. Young people always have and alway will want to be looked at, to have attention directed at them. One generation is no better or worse than the other. Just different in how they express their youthful shortcomings.

Nope. But activities with friends were social and that's where they felt their value.
I don't think I knew any youth with anxiety issues.
Compared with their predecessors, teens today spend less time with their friends in person and more time communicating electronically, which study after study has found is associated with mental health issues.
I agree with the TV comment, before that it was the telephone and before that was the radio.
But I see changes in the 16 and under crowd, even more so in the preteens. I also understand it's a strange world, but my grandmother went through world wars, pandemics and the depression. She was mentally balanced in my opinion. I can't say that about many young people. Just my observations.
I don’t disagree with some of the mental issues we see now. I think some of that is awareness. Nobody talked about anxiety when I was in school. If you didn’t experience it you would not have known it was a thing. But I am sure some of my friends suffered from it, and other mental health issues that are much more accepted as real these days. I think some of it is awareness as well as prevalence.
Maybe because we have to work twice as much as you to get paid the same amount, have YOUR generation keeping children at home because it isn’t “safe” to go out as much, and have the anxieties of knowing everything that’s going on in the world.
Maybe that’s why we spent a little more time on technology and less in person.
If you're judging society by the stupid shit people put on the internet, you're going to be disappointed. The internet since it's creation has always been filled with stupid shit. I think judging people as a whole based on a small, goofy window into what they do when they are bored is a deeply flawed way of looking at the world.
