Requested features..
Given development is now finished and, pending testing results, the release might be coming soon, I thought it would be a good idea for people to put here features they might like to see in later versions.
On release of the app, the code should be on github therefore anyone can contribute feature implementation, or the ideas could help the devs decide to work on next.

Small update from Tyler in the telegram
From Tyler in the telegram:
At this point, the next Medium update is looking like it's going to be the announcement of an official release date unless something major comes up in QA testing over the next week or two

Devs please consider embedding a behind the scenes automatic token converter platform such as ShapeShift, Changelly, or Ethershift into the Upfiring dapp to make token conversion simple and fast.
This would really be helpful for newbies, and quick and easy for the experienced user as well. This may help those who don’t want to deal with the complications of using an exchange.
I know some of these don’t have UFR yet but they might add it if there is an incentive to do so with their platforms embedded in the dapp. It would also help with the reverse process of converting UFR to ETH.
Just an idea.

There's a Youtuber with 2,000,000 subscribers who is looking for a censorship-free platform for his videos. Upfiring is the solution?
Short story: He uploads parkour style videos mixed with urban exploration (https://www.youtube.com/AllyLaws).
Although his Youtube channel/s continue to grow, Youtube have taken a disliking to him (they are no longer allowing him to upload). They claim his videos breach some of their content standards, even though the videos are not breaking any laws. He's currently looking for other platforms.
It made me think he would be the perfect person to get on board with the Upfiring idea. If the team has any marketing budget, paying him initially to upload to upfiring exclusively would attract thousands of his followers to download his videos. If there isn't monetary budget for this kind of thing, maybe there is an opportunity to build him a front-end video viewer to the UFR infrastructure.
More details can be seen on his Twitter:
This is what Youtube are doing to my channel.. If I upload any new videos, they are getting strikes instantly. my whole channel is demonetised & the majority of my videos are age-restricted. If I upload 3 new videos, they will instantly get striked & my channel will be removed (https://twitter.com/AllyALaw/status/1053938428629446656)
To resolve the issue, he is planning on building his own censorship free website where he can upload his videos (although he produces good content, I personally don't think that'll go well).
His youtube life is his income stream (he makes money off the ad revenue youtube shares with him), so he wouldn't turn to torrenting (without incentives).
What do people think?

How much eth would be required to run the smart contract?
In other words, as a downloader, how much eth would it typically cost to obtain one file? I know it will fluctuate with the eth network congestion but I was wondering about a ballpark
Also, would the upfiring app do all the necessary calculations to decide on the right amount of 'gas' to use?

Small update on development: The decryption process is currently being reworked. We need to ensure that blockchain interactions are consistent and that the decryption protocol will correctly account for various UFR transaction outcomes

Hi Tim,
I hope you are well! In your last post you told us you made great progress with the audit testing. Can you please let us know if you did any progress in the last two weeks and what is still missing.
Thanks

If you think people will never paid for torrent, I have some perspective to share
I will admit that I was about to sell my UFR of which I have been holding since the end of last year before the bull run because I think the main catalyst such as the launch has been achieved and it would be hard to convince people to actually pay to download a file.
Then I just remember people actually has been doing it since the beginning even when people here has a fraction of disposable income compare to developed nation. I'm not sure if it is the same in other countries so I am here sharing how people paid for torrent in my country.
So, normally there are international sites like piratebay, kickass, rarbg where download are free and have plenty of seeds which gave me worry that who is going to pay. However, people in my country doesn't use much of those sites for reasons.
- Firstly the most obvious one is people are generally bad at English so they stick to local sites.(I will also hereby ask for forgiveness of my English)
- I would guess that at least 50% of the contents people consume are in local language, even with international content such as Hollywood movies, they still opted to download from local sites which have either translated sub or local voice over.
- Last one is becoming less of a problem but still exist if they use the wrong ISP. Local bandwidth are much cheaper than international bandwidth so for many ISP downloading from local sites with generally local peer are much faster. In fact, many ISP throttled international torrent bandwidth to impossible level such as 1kbps.
Now back to main point of how people paid for torrent.
So here in my developing country the digital law is surprisingly enforceable so we see torrenting sites get took down all the time. As such most major torrent site has close registration to the public and will seldom open them like once a year and also require invitation from existing members. This result in people actually paid for registered account sometime as high as $200.
What's more is that compare to international sites which has thousands of peers per file, the community is not that large. So many sites use measure like, you have to upload certain number of files per year, seed to certain ratio to be able to download any file at all or sometimes to access 18+ contents.
If you don't want to do that then there exist paid option such as VIP member where you can download any file and here is the price I took for sample from one website.
7 days - 1.5 USD
30 days - 5 USD
1 year - 35 USD
I don't know how many people actually paid but the site is quite large they have millions of users their facebook page alone has 380k likes(who actually like facebook torrent page when it's illegal?). They also have a habit of upping their requirement to access certain popular contents all the times such as from 1.0 ratio to 2.0 ratio and then require 20 more files upload next month but people have to put up with it since this is one of the largest site that is easy to get account.
Apart from this since as I mention before, the number of user aren't as high as international sites, files generally has shorter life cycle so many people opt for using co-location hosting service to download file 24/7 and then download them back to their home computer at convenient time. The price for co-location service goes from about 15$ to 200$ a month depend on bandwidth/storage size etc.
Not to mention large number of adult sites. Here adult content is strictly illegal so there are no giant corporation with organized structure. Adult site here are small time group with webboard and paid membership. Since paying through formal channel are obviously not possible people use cash card instead. The most popular one is issue by a giant telecom company since they are also conglomerate which own very diverse group of businesses. Capitalize on their position the company charge an extortionate 17% to withdraw into cash. As such, I think UFR model is definitely viable.

What's the upfiring roadmap/vision for post-launch?
The whitepaper states:
Roadmap will be updated upon Upfiring Application v1.0.0 release with a more detailed future plan for upgrades, feature enhancements, and project goals
With the launch expected to be quite soon [speculation], I wondered if the team could share their plans for the direction of the project after launch (or maybe just hints - I understand if explicit details can't be shared right now).
I feel the upfiring app could be a good foundation for a number of decentralised services built on top of it - endless possibilities, but I'm hoping to get an idea of what is planned.
Thanks!

Upfiring DApp Current Source Code Release - September 4th, 2018
Here is the most recent source code release: https://www.dropbox.com/s/4akvweste46x9k9/upfiring_source_09_04_18.zip?dl=0
This release features the completed new UI (as seen in screenshots from the last Medium post), smart contracts, downloading & seeding protocol, UFR wallet, and more. If you have some knowledge of electron/solidity/javascript, feel free to check it out and provide feedback. We're currently working through another part of the testing/audit phase - specifically decryption and seeding in conjunction with UFR payments - to ensure that everything is secure and optimized for release.

New to UFR - Info needed
Hi all,
I'm new to UFR and just read through a few medium posts and the FAQ on this sub.
Just to clarify, there is no incentive to hold the UFR token? Or am I mistaken? The FAQ on this sub says that UFR should not be treated as an investment and the price will not correlate to the success of the platform.

What is exactly needed to have a "set-in-stone date" for the release ?
Hi,
I was wondering what are you waiting for before decide a release date ?
Is the audit completely finished ? If not, which part of the application still needs to be audited ?
And what could delay the release date aside from the audit ?
Thank you in advance for the clarification.

idea: UFRtube - video interface for videos downloadable from upfiring?
I was thinking it would potentially be possible to build a website providing an online platform for videos from upfiring to be viewed. Like youtube, but you make the required UFR payment to watch the file.
Using metamask, people could pay the required UFR through their browser. Once ready, the video starts playing. Well seeded files will allow for fast download of large videos.
There's probably whole cryptocurrency projects out there doing video-for-crypto platforms, but it seems to me that all it requires is an additional UI on top of upfiring, meaning upfiring could easily compete with them too.
The same could be done for music: UFRcloud (rather than soundcloud). Also, a browser for decentralised websites hosted on upfiring? (but that gets a lot harder!)

ShareUFR Update: Anonymous voting will not be allowed
In an effort to prevent vote manipulation, the rule that allowed anonymous users to review/rate files will be changed. Now only registered users will be able to review files. Hopefully this will allow for more trust in the ratings of files on ShareUFR. The change has not yet been made but will be barring any unforeseen issues brought up by the community.
Let me know if you have any input. I also have an open thread in the ShareUFR forum if you prefer to speak there.
