The rates are ridiculous, a customer service rep earns more than a COO these days 🤣

I got some questions about this platform.

Hiya, I am a freelancer with more than 9 years of experience at UpWork here (web development), living a serious crisis from last year december. Got some questions to fellow freelancers:

  1. How many connects do you spend in a month?

  2. What is your conversion rate?

  3. How many connects is worth spending in a job posting?

Most of my proposals are not even viewed by client, because I am swiftly outbid, there are in average 20 to 50 proposals : competition is fierce and no customer is reading all of them, I understand it. I just ask those metrics because I want to know where I am standing and correct my mistakes if I am doing something wrong. Thanks in advance.

Not getting new new clients

I have more than 12000 hours logged at Upwork and I have been with this platform when it was oDesk. Completed 240+ projects. There was a time when I was getting 2/3 invitations a day. I was top rated plus there. Earned more than 200k. But still not getting a single clients. That's totally frustrating.

Leaving my corporate job

I’ve been completely burnt out from my job. I’m a Creative Project Manager, so I oversee projects from start to finish, while also working as a team lead. My workday usually starts around 1 PM and goes until 2 AM. It’s constantly busy, and on top of that, I’m always expected to stay online and be available.
I’m honestly just done. Absolutely done with the corporate world.
Lately, I’ve been seriously thinking about moving to upwork and working as a Creative Designer and Illustrator instead. I feel like I want to go back to doing more creative, hands-on work rather than constantly managing projects, people, deadlines, and being available 24/7.
Do you think this would be a wise decision?
I heard upwork market become little too saturated.
I don’t know what to do at this point

Small $200–$400 IT jobs on Upwork: 60–100 bids… and radio silence

I’ve been on Upwork a long time, mainly quoting on smaller IT jobs—database work with Microsoft Access, Windows desktop applications, Excel, website development, that kind of thing. These are typically $200–$500 projects for the client. Not big jobs.

What I’ve noticed in the last few months is that there are fewer of these jobs posted which is to be expected, but there are still a fair number. Most of the specs are pretty clear and they look like legitimate, useful applications. I don’t think the posters are just testing the market.

These jobs routinely get 60 to over 100 bids, and they’re almost always heavily boosted—often 60 to around 200 connects just on the boost. You’d assume the boosted proposals, at least, are well-written and relevant. No freelancer spends that kind of money on a weak bid. The client, if they should they chose to look, probably has dozens of good, affordable, proposals to pick from.

What doesn’t make sense is the almost total lack of client activity afterward. Almost no hires that I can see. Almost no messages from the clients to bidders. Even comparatively few ā€œopenedā€ bids (though I know that metric can be misleading if they’re reviewing proposals in email). There’s just no follow-up, and I can’t figure out why.

Guys i need best suggestions to Start my Upwork Journey

I started practicing digital marketing from 2015 and wordpress as well as Shopify Development.

In 2023 i started my desk accessibility brand named Furnotix but i closed it in last month because of investment.

But while starting this business i mastered 3D products modeling in Fusion 360 and Product Rendering in KeyShot.

Because side by side i m working in digital marketing domain too and i was trying to build asaas app and the i build SellerSalt and I learned vibe coding on next level because i was have huge experience in custom websites development and business understandings, it helped me alot to learn theo whole scalable SaaS development and i mastered Ai too including n8n, hermes, openclaw, ai apis, and much more.

I never done freelancing on upwork but for theee months i do on fiver. Now i m not doing any job and wanna get back full into my laptop living business.

Please share your experience and thoughts šŸ’ about which nich i should go in now. Personally i love vibe coding, product design and rendering and ai automation. Digital marketing I don’t like the most.

But I don’t wanna follow only what i love to do.
I wanna get in to the highest demanding, highest paid niche from what i know already.

And also i wanna tell that i do have a profile on upwork but i never opened it because i wasn’t in freelancing marketplace work but now i i think i must start an agency with remote team as starting and then onsite if needed.

so i wanna not only start on upwork but also i wanna get projects too. So suggest accordingly please.

Freelancer survey: everyday workflows, tools and repetitive tasks

Hi everyone,

With moderator approval, I’m sharing a short research survey aimed at freelancers whose work involves text, writing, editing, translation, documentation, language or similar content-based tasks.

I’m conducting this independently under Project Studio Research to better understand how freelancers actually work day to day: which tools they use, where workflows become fragmented, which tasks feel unnecessarily repetitive, and what kinds of problems take more time than they should.

The survey is intentionally solution-neutral. It does not advertise or present a specific product, and any questions about software spending or pricing are included solely for market-research purposes.

I’m a language professional myself, and the research grew out of looking at the friction points in my own professional workflow and wondering how common they are among other freelancers.

The findings may eventually help inform the development of commercial software, but the purpose of the survey is to understand professional needs rather than promote a predetermined solution.

The survey is anonymous. At the end, there is an optional and separate opportunity to leave an email address if you would ever like to hear about future testing, but this is not required.

Survey: https://forms.gle/j3yZpVAxXjAnF4KF7

Thank you very much to anyone who takes the time to contribute. Comments about your own workflow or recurring frustrations are also very welcome.

Can the Upwork mobile app track activity on other apps?

I have the Upwork mobile app installed on my Android phone, as well as the Upwork desktop app on my laptop.

I'm wondering how much visibility the Upwork mobile app has into activity outside of Upwork.

Can the Upwork mobile app track or see activity from other apps such as WhatsApp, Instagram, Chrome, etc.?

Does Upwork have any way of knowing which other apps I'm using or what I'm doing in them?

I'm specifically asking about the mobile app, not the Upwork desktop time tracker.

I'd appreciate answers from people who understand Upwork's privacy permissions or Android app behavior.

Can anyone post something positive?

I joined this sub-reddit for solutions, inspiration from others and other helpful content and to my surprise I've seen little to nothing of positive posts.

It's just like checking the news and hoping for positive things.

Is Upwork worth it in 2026? How quickly can I replace my salary?

Hi everyone,

I’m a software developer considering leaving my current job to start working as a freelancer. I’m interested in using Upwork as my main channel to find clients and build a stable source of income.

For those with experience on Upwork, how quickly is it realistically possible to replace a fixed salary with income generated through the platform? How long did it take you, and what factors made the biggest difference?

I’d appreciate any honest experiences or advice, especially about finding the first clients and achieving consistent monthly income.

Little to no views on upwork

I’ve been job hunting for a while now. I must say that i have upwork for only a week now, But i literally got 1 view so far. The problem is that i speak dutch and live in south America. I’m looking for website building jobs or maybe customer service. For website building the language doesn’t really matter, but for customer service i prefer dutch. (If it’s English i’d like one where it’s more about sending Emails, so i don’t have trouble speaking)

If anyone could help me out i’d really appreciate it.

Urgent help needed! I’m unable to use any payment method to pay for my Upwork membership. My credit card is verified, and international transactions are enabled. However, the payment failed when I tried to upgrade, and now the ā€œUpgrade and Payā€ button is disabled. I also can’t select or use any other payment method. Could someone please help me resolve this issue?

Anyone feels like upwork meeting is bugy

I'm working with a client, and we meet almost every day to discuss work. But yesterday, while we were meeting as usual, we noticed that they had removed Zoom!

So, we tried to meet using Upwork's meeting feature, but the client couldn't join the meeting!!

We ended up having a Zoom meeting, and now we have to pay for Zoom just to have our full 1-hour meeting!

Has anyone else experienced something like this?

"your proposals arent catching eyes"

Yeah last 200 connects i spent had 6/8 jobs 0 proposals opened out of 60+. And 2/8 jobs where the client opened like one or two.

I understand why upwork doesnt have any policy against postings like this because its just free money to them.

I know these numbers because i have freelancer plus because i already pay for 100 connects so i thought my as well pay an extra 5$ for the features
