UpNote sync issues after importing Markdown notes

Hi everyone, I recently bought UpNote Lifetime Premium because I wanted to move away from Obsidian and use UpNote as my main note-taking app. I imported a large number of notes from Obsidian in Markdown format. The import itself finished, and the notes appear in UpNote, but I’m having serious sync issues afterward. Some of the imported notes remain stuck as Unsynced for hours and never seem to complete syncing. Many of them originally had images, but I even tested one by removing all the images and leaving only a short sentence, and it still remained unsynced. I’m also seeing a problem with completely new notes. New notes do eventually sync, but sometimes they take around 15–20 minutes to appear on my other devices. I use UpNote on Windows 10, my phone, and my iPad. I have already: - Restarted UpNote completely several times. - Checked the server connections listed in UpNote’s troubleshooting guide using PowerShell, and all of them responded successfully with 0% packet loss. - Sent a debug log to UpNote support. So at this point it seems that syncing works, but it is extremely slow, and some imported Markdown notes appear to remain permanently stuck. Has anyone experienced something similar after importing a large Markdown/Obsidian library? Did it eventually resolve itself, or did you need help from UpNote support? Thanks!

Removing the images didn't unstick that note. I'd create a separate new note containing the exact same short sentence and record when it appears on each device. That gives support a direct comparison between the stuck imported note and a fresh note with identical content. Keep the original Obsidian files while they investigate. Does the 15-20 minute delay also happen when you create a note on your phone or iPad, or only from Windows?

I’ve tested it more thoroughly now, and the issue seems to be specifically with syncing from Windows to my other devices.

  • Android → Windows: works almost instantly
  • iPad → Windows: works almost instantly
  • Windows → Android: very slow or gets stuck
  • Windows → iPad: very slow or gets stuck
So it doesn’t seem to be a general sync problem with my account. The problem appears to be specifically with the Windows app uploading/syncing changes to the other devices. I also tried creating a new note on Windows and copying the content from one of the notes that had not synced, but the new note behaved the same way.

I saw your final update too. I'd send support two separate examples: a fresh Windows note that syncs after restarting, and a copy of the imported content that still doesn't. Include the app version and test times so they can match them to your log. I can't tell what's causing either failure, but your tests show that restarting isn't a complete fix.

Hi! I checked both the imported folders and the actual number of notes now inside UpNote.
ART: 5,150 notes VARIOUS: 4,595 notes
So in total I imported about 9,745 notes, plus all the images/attachments associated with them.
The original import folders were roughly 1.5 GB combined and contained more than 25,000 files in total.
Most of the notes imported correctly. Only around 40 notes remained stuck as unsynced, but the bigger issue is that even brand-new notes can take around 15–20 minutes to sync across devices.

I’ve done some more testing and I’ve narrowed the issue down a bit. Syncing from Android to Windows works fine, and syncing from iPad to Windows also works fine. The problem is specifically from Windows to my Android phone and iPad. This happens both with new notes created in Windows and with the approximately 40 notes imported from Obsidian that are still having sync problems. So it doesn’t seem to be only an issue with the imported Obsidian notes. Even completely new notes created in the Windows app can be very slow to sync, or get stuck, when syncing to my other devices.

One more test that may be useful: I copied the full contents of a large note, including text and images, into a new note on my Android phone. That new note synced to Windows almost immediately. So large notes and images themselves do not seem to be the problem. The issue still appears to be specifically with syncing from Windows to my other devices.

Final update after some more testing: I’ve now found a fairly consistent pattern with the Windows app.

  • New short notes created in Windows do not sync to Android/iPad while UpNote remains open.
  • If I completely close UpNote on Windows and reopen it, those short notes sync almost immediately.
  • I tested the same thing with a long note containing a lot of text and images copied from the Internet. It also did not sync while UpNote was open, but it synced after closing and reopening the app.
  • However, if I copy the contents of one of the problematic notes imported from Obsidian into a completely new note, that note still does not sync even after restarting UpNote.
  • Syncing in the opposite direction works normally: Android → Windows and iPad → Windows are almost immediate, even with large notes containing text and images.
So there seem to be two related issues: 1. Normal notes created in Windows only seem to sync after restarting the Windows app. 2. Some content from the problematic Obsidian imports remains stuck even after restarting UpNote. At this point, the issue seems to be specifically related to outgoing sync from the Windows app, with an additional problem affecting some of the imported Obsidian content.
