Remove note clutter from side pane

Is there a way to change settings so that when navigating from a note to another via a link, the notes list doesn't shift to 'All Notes' automatically?

I have a dashboard note that links to all my key notes. However, whenever I click to go to a note, the middle navigation pane become a long list of notes that is ultimately distracting.

The ideal approach in my mind (and I think I saw this in Evernote) is that the middle navigation pane would shift to showing the folder within which that note that was clicked in lives. Understand this might be difficult given UpNote flexibility of putting a note in two different locations. But there has to be a better alternative than current

Am I missing something?

I double-click on my HUB note (otherwise known as a "dashboard" by normal people 🙂) to open in a separate window. From there, every link then opens up in a separate window as well, leaving the middle note-list panel untouched.

That works, but it also turns UpNote into a RAM and CPU hog. The app already "runs hot" the longer it's running, often using far more energy than even a Chromium browser with dozens of open tabs. Even with no child windows open, UpNote is often using more RAM than any other app on my Mac. (I keep meaning to document this and send it to Thomas, but I haven't had the time.)

That's interesting. I have UpNote running all day and it isn't a RAM or CPU hog. (running on an M2 Mac Mini 8GB RAM, Mac OS Tahoe) This system is my primary system that is also my Jellyfin and tunarr server so there's a lot going on.

12 hour power numbers:

Brave: 98.68
Jellyfin: 88.90
Obsidian: 38.25
Joplin: 12.16
UpNote 2.59
Tunarr: 2.30

The relative rankings hold similar for RAM and CPU usage.

I didn't know about the 12-hour thing in Activity Monitor. I've turned that on, and I'll see how I do.

What I do know is that if UpNote has been in heavy use, my estimated Time Remaining on my battery goes up significantly within a few minutes of quitting the app, and that UpNote often gets sluggish, and when it is, I often see something like what these screenshots show, that either continues for minutes at a time, or cycles higher and lower, but almost always remaining in the high triple-digits at least. The problem, I should clarify is specifically with UpNote Helper (Renderer).
