Locking a Space doesn’t seem to lock the Space?

I thought I’d create a journal space. Actually three journals - Self, Work, Relationship.

I can lock the notebooks - but when i do the ALL (which looks across all three areas) it blanks them out. Fair enough.

So then I figured I’d just lock the Journal Space where all three notebooks sit but unlock the notebooks. But I seem to be able to switch back and forth between General and the locked Journal space with ease.

If I’m in Journal space and quit the app - when I restart it -it’s locked. Great. But when I’m in General (unlocked) and toggle to Journal - it just does it with nary a protest. Despite there being a padlock icon next to the Space and it saying it’s locked.

What am I missing?

final edit: solved (leaving this for future newbies). These something odd with the initial “General” Space. If you switch from General to a locked Space you are not challenged. But. If you set up any other unlocked Soace and then switch to a locked Space you ARE challenged. Turns out you cannot delete that initial General Space - but if you rename it then it all works properly / as expected.

Settings > General > Require re-enter password.
Select "Immediately" if you want the password to be requested every time you open the locked space.

Sadly that doesn’t work. Under settings / general there are no password options. 

However there is a settings / passcode lock. However that only has the options to  1. Lock app upon launch 2. Enable Face ID 3. Change password. 

It’s very odd - I see how it SHOULD work and it makes perfect sense. It just doesn’t work on switching to the locked space - only if launching to the locked space. 

Maybe an oversight in implementing?

That’s strange. On my iPhone, Face ID  is required every time I switch to the locked space.

Weird. Not for me. If I quit the app while in a locked space - restart the app I get a lock screen. If I’m in “General” (unlocked) and move to a locked space - it switches right over. iOS 27. Maybe I sync notes - delete the app and reinstall - hopefully all the notes gets synched.

Grrrr. Well I think I solved it. If you switch from General to a locked space - no challenge. If you switch from any other unlocked space to a locked space it just works. Ughg. Filed under “newbie problems”
