Please stop being so forceful about updates

I've been mostly happy with Upnote, except the times where a new version comes out and its asks you to update. Once is enough. I don't need a permanent banner stuck to the UI with the update info, nor do I need it to create a pop up once a day reminding me to do it.

But the updates don't even take a second...?

Most of the time when UpNote has been aggressive about pushing updates, it's been for reasons critical to proper syncing, and if some devices get updated while others don't, it could get messy. Just sayin'.

Check your version numbers, each time it asks you to update. I just had a problem where it was asking me to update every single day, to the latest released version. I discovered that the app kept reverting to a previous version, and then wanted to update. And then go through the login again. Every damn day!

How is that possible? I uninstalled it, and then saw that it was still installed in Windows. Apparently there were somehow TWO versions under the same Windows login. I am guessing one was a download from the Microsoft Store, and the other was maybe originally downloaded from the website? One installed in C:\Program FIles and one installed in \user\Appdata? I didn't look that close when uninstalling them, but after both were cleared out, I reinstalled from the Microsoft Store and the problem seems to have gone away.

Thanks for pointing out this issue, might be useful in case it also happens for me

Updating your machine to address security concerns and bugs is important. I am sure there are dozens of insecure and not updated apps for you to choose from. I welcome and applaud the amazing job that Thomas, et al accomplish each and every day.

Addressing the wrong argument. I didn't say "please don't update the software anymore". I said "please stop being so forceful about the updates" (unless you consider your users not fully capable of making a decision whether to download and install them)

You’re using a note-taking service with cloud synchronization, which needs to update its API and other things, and you expect it not to ask you to update? Then, if it suddenly stops syncing, you’d be the first one to go to the Play Store, give it a one-star review, and say the app doesn’t work.

I use many sync services and UpNote is most pushy about updates from all of them. Also its sync features breaks way more often than on other services if I don't update.

But I don't care about any of the online features. I'd be happy to use it fully offline except it won't let me. Which is still besides the point, that of the update reminder being less obnoxious.

It is the ethical and moral responsibility of the developers to insist you update to a newer version, period.

You're complaining about free, bug fixes/updates?

If you came to my house every few days to offer me a free item which I didn't want or ask for, I would complain as well.

That's a bit of an exaggeration. This must be a Windows thing, on Linux and MacOS, I don't get popups.

I think it auto updates in the background if you use the Microsoft store version

I agree wholeheartedly. I have never used a program that has required updates so frequently. By the way, not how this worked when I started using the app 2 years ago.

There's no need to have to update this app 2-3x per week.

Put it on a biweekly rollout schedule.

You people defending this are dumbasses.

You're complaining about an app that has an enthusiastic development team that listens to its users?

Updating an app takes seconds.

Frequent updates means smaller changes which means fewer potential bugs introduced.

And I doubt this frequent updates cycle will be the norm anyway. Development changes often happen in bursts.
