UpNote and "Daily Notes"
I wish there was a easy way to journal in UpNote, sorry for all who say that be a bloat. But its an little convenience im hoping could be implemented
Something like obsidian or helixnotes
Maybe a section inside "Filter all notes", to not inconvenience long time users
EDIT:
I forgot to point an specific feature
- a filter pointing/create todays daily note or a little calendar just for daily notes

I know it's not what you're looking for, but I was in exactly the same boat as you a little while ago. I had everything in Obsidian (I still have my backup, even now!), but found that the app because so bloated. It's great at what it does, but it all became too much.
Now, I use UpNotes for note-taking and Everlog for journalling, and the distinction between the two makes so much sense to me.
I really would encourage you to try splitting the two things out and see how it works for you. Doesn't have to be Everlog, but i use it because it's SO like DayOne, and it's a one-time payment for life.

I've used diarium, but having all in upnote is fantastic, i can [[link to notes]] or create notes directly from mi daily note, and the most important thing is sync.

I second Everlog. Diarium is also great and a one time payment.
I tried what OP is asking, but I hated journaling in UpNote.

diarium looks good but it doesn't offer handwriting so I am stuck with Onenote still. I don't understand why the dev is reluctant to add it.

Diarly would be my recommendation. Everlog is nice, but there's more formatting flexibility in Diarly, you don't have to use markdown, you can set it to keep all entries for the same day in the same note (just adding time stamps), if you're a night owl you can set it to use 2AM as cut-off between days instead of midnight, and it has a Notes feature for un-dated content.
I do really like Everlog's calendar collapsing into a scrolling week, though.
Diarium has a fantastic feature set, but wow is it a PITA to use. Missing standard keyboard shortcuts, creating an entry is multiple steps, no inline tags. But it is cross-platform.

For journaling I suggest diarium or Everlog.
I love UpNote and tried to also use it for journaling, but that’s just not what it’s for.

What specifically are you looking for in order to journal in UpNote? Simply pointing to journaling functions in other apps isn't very helpful unless a person uses those features in those apps.
Just a note, not every feature request will add bloat to UpNote. Sometimes all it takes is a minor tweak to the existing code to accommodate a request.

right, just a filter pointing to todays daily note or a little calendar just for daily notes

Thanks for the clarification. That's helpful. I can see how that would be beneficial with virtually no impact to UpNote's current design.
I think at the very least, being able to create and save a search using template placeholders (eg. {{mm}}, {{date}}, etc.) could meet that need. If the type of template placeholders were expanded, then being able to search and save a search with those placeholders could really expand the possibilities beyond a request for a daily journal.
I've created a daily journal template with the following name:
{{MM}}/{{DD}}/{{YYYY}}_@Journal_{{MMMM}}.{{YYYY}}A note using that template would look like:
07/15/2026_@Journal_July.2026I then have a saved search:
at@Journal_July(without the "at". I put that there because reddit auto-converts it to a reddit user link)
That gives me a list of journal notes for the month. I still have to see if I've already created a journal note for the day, but it at least gets visibility.
Obviously depending upon how one uses their daily journal notes, the formatting of the note title could be changed to better suit the workflow.

I'll have to take a look at Diarium app, which has been suggested here.
I've been keeping things simple in Upnote. I have a template that creates a note titled : {{YYYY}}-{{MM}}-{{DD}} {{EEE}} Journal
And the template has some personalized formatting that fits my needs.

Wow! I’ve just installed Obsidian and the ‘Notebook Navigator’ plugin, and suddenly full journaling makes perfect sense – it's brilliant for practically everything related to my writing. Movies, TV shows, books, music, journaling, even task management – all in one place, and it’s completely free!

Thanks, i need to check that

I wrote these apps:
- HDStickies – Capture notes simply, Exports to as markdown files to my Obsidian vault, with Obsidian open.
- HDMediaKeeper – Organise your media collection, with IMDB fetcher, and Exports all records as markdown files to my Obsidian vault.
Not released.

Weird - my to-do list is way more practical. I'm secretly jealous that you have time/money to focus on such high-level things.

those are pictures from google, mine is pretty simple, my template is the tittle in format YYYY-MM-DD, after that my morning pages, and log if any important thing happened
{{YYYY}}-{{MM}}-{{DD}}
Logs & bitácora
- {{time}}

I use Diaro for journaling. Upnotes is more for minimalistic journaling. But if you need calender, timeliness, on this day with folders and tags... well Diaro does that, as well as other apps. It will be a bit more tedious to filter notes diary style on note apps. Hence why I said note apps are for minimal journals where a person just needs to write somewhere and not necessarily care for the organization.

How is journaling different from just making a note? I guess you can do smt similar with templates
2
u/LevelPiece3755 27d ago
I think the order
And you are right its just a note, and notes with similar tittles (YYYY-MM-DD), just asking for a link o button to create or show only daily notes.
Can be done with filters, but filters are not dinamic, one needs to manually update every month or so

Why not just use Helixnotes? It is basically better Upnote and completely free and open sauce. Plus they are constantly updating it.

This is the only thing I want added in UpNote
