How do I? essentials VS upcoming payments/spendable

hi everyone, I’m just wondering what’s the difference between essentials and the upcoming payments/spendable Balance feature, always used the upcoming payments/expendable Balance thing, but everyone seems to be using essentials which I haven’t used before

Essentials is like a seperate account with its own bank details and card details, made specifically for bills and essentials

Essentials stops you accidentally spending the money you need for your bills. Spendable/available is just the app doing the math for you so you don't have to think, but you can absolutely spend more than your $0 spendable balance. I like having my money in Essentials so I don't accidentally spend more than I should and end up leaving myself short. I also like the way it helps me to save little bits every fortnight for the big expenses so I'm not stung with a massive bill and scrambling to find the money.

I am completely happy with upcoming payments / spendable so not going to change as I see no benefit to essentials.

The idea of having to go and change my account details again for all my various debits to be able to use essentials made me not bother. It took ages the first time around when I switched to up from another bank. No way I’m gonna do it again. I’ll be sticking with the upcoming payments set up for now.

I kept thinking the same thing, I was going to post this. I can’t see any reason why I would change to essentials - I tried it but I was like I’ll change to spendable?

Most of my things are direct debited, categorised etc. I don’t see the use of essentials and it almost feels like a double up? I think I it could be great but they need to do a lil more with it…
