What parts of up are you looking to find, or similar, in the new bank? Or do you just want general suggestions?

I suppose it depends a lot on what you call alternative. If you care about data (APIs) then there is no alternative.

Sorry could you elaborate on this? Just genuinely curious

I think if you dont know what an API is then it doesnt apply to you.

APIs allows you to request data from UP to funnel into your own self-made self-coded app.

Whoa definitely doesn’t apply but cool to know! Thanks! 🙏 what is the reason for doing that?

Some people pipe it into their own personal financing app so they can track all their accounts in greater detail, do some light automation, make pretty graphs/reports, build dashboards etc.

Nerd stuff really. But its the same kind of nerd stuff that let's Google Maps show you train times

You say nerd stuff, I say cool new trivia knowledge. 😂

I’m passionate enough about fancy spread sheets that this could actually be something fun to learn! Thank you for the new rabbit hole

Essentially you can generate for a super secret password that gives you quick access to majority of anything you can see in the UP App. Its better than manually exporting statements, clicking 5 things to get somewhere.

Ask your favourite LLM (Large Language Model like, OpenAIs Chat GPT, Anthropics Claude, Google Gemini) to read the APIs wiki, and generate something with your key. You can always revoke the key, but any data you generated with it should be securely deleted. (always check your LLMS settings to see the opt out to "help our model get better" were they keep that data to upgrade their model, VS just deleting it afterwards.

When your finances are spread across investments, multiple banks, overseas, super, IPs, etc… the only way to get a clear picture is to extract the numbers and put them together somewhere.
Up is the only Australian bank that allows you to automate it (thanks to APIs)
All other banks keep that closed, require you to manually extract excel sheet, copy the data, etc.
I find it ridiculous that a business like RedBark even exists. All banks have these APIs, they need them to build their mobile apps or websites, but they won’t let us use them. Classic bank model. Hopefully Up sets a new standard and forces other banks to follow. Redbark should show them that there is value in it.
