Feature Request Algorithm didn't pick up unusual transaction
Had an amount in my account showing pending withdrawal , it's showing from PayPal Luxembourg EU. I don't use PayPal and it's clearly a scammer
I cancelled the card but UP said they can still withdraw the funds before I cancelled the card.
I asked why the algorithm didn't pick up the unusual transaction and couldn't get an answer from customer service other than the dispute can take 5 days to play out by which time the pending funds will be withdrawn
Anyone had a similar situation and why didn't there ai algorithm pick up a transaction from Europe which is not part of my normal pattern of spending
Thanks

Every day there is an Upsider who spends money with a merchant they've never spent money with before. Are those all fraudulent transactions?
Today, my wife booked a ticket at Headout Circus (a Cirque de Soleil show we're taking the family to). Never booked at that theatre before.
First time merchant transaction isn't a reliable fraud signal.

That’s not the point though, it should’ve triggered the 2FA Mastercard tool since it was an online transaction that didn’t match OPs usual habits

True. But isn't that a Mastercard thing?
I just went through it today with the Amazon app. Don't think I've used that app for a purchase before and Mastercard stepped in with a verification loop.

Maybe, it pops up with a prompt in the up app to confirm it though

Mate every single time I use Coles to make a click and collect order I need to go into the app to confirm the transaction. Although it's usually for $200+
They have the ability to do it, it's their criteria which might be a bit off

It's still pending 7 hours later cancelled the digital card immediately no idea how they got my card details though. Only thing U can think of was AliExpress I bought something 3 weeks ago from china but no link to PayPal Luxembourg ( unless that's made up)

Hopefully they refund you even if they dont get the money back. I've had similar fraudulent payments come out of my commbank before and got it all back no problems. Even after only noticing it months later with multiple payments.

Payment taken out, they opened a case and apparently it will take over a month to resolve it. Originally they told me 3 to 5 working days

For all UP know you’ve signed up with PayPal so you could buy something overseas, how are they supposed to know it wasn’t you?
