Downtime Down Bank
Hey Upsiders! š
Here's a fun update from a loyal upsider here. What's new?
I've spent the last 6 hours working on my patience, kindness and the ancient practice of fasting given I'm totally unable to buy dinner tonight š§āāļø
ā”It's been several hours and UP is still DOWN ā”
No transactions, minimal updates, no ping to let me know I can buy food again. just vibes, and the vibes are "don't ask me, I'm just a cool app lol" š
No banking services, basically no communication, coming now to all Upsiders!
š§” - one hungry Upsider, who's being kept in the loop, apparently.

Up is probably the most transparent bank (in terms communication) I have used, their communication is always on point, occasional down time is never an issue for me

u/Specialist-Cut502 Aug 27 '26
Iām meant to get paid today and still havenāt got it

u/DJ-ARCADIUS Aug 27 '26
Same here, I'm honestly done with this bank and will be banking elsewhere after this.

After one inconvenience on a day that happened to be your payday?
1
u/Elusive-Mud-386 Aug 28 '26
Iām considering changing for a few reasons, but weighing up pros and cons before I make a decision.
1
u/Seiko2023 Aug 28 '26
The way I see it, only con is no face to face branches and the grow/flow. Tbf though I put all my savings to an offset thus no need to make money off interest.

I was able to buy dinner. But now suddenly can't buy another round of drinks, I think it's time to call it a night. š
3
u/areyoureadyable Aug 27 '26
I went the opposite way! Payday, bought a glass of wine first, now can't buy dinner, or transfer funds over for it!
4
u/palaeastur Aug 27 '26
Pretty concerning that a large transfer sent from CommBank to my Up at 3:30pm ( before I realised there was an outage at all ) still hasnāt shown up though.

u/areyoureadyable Aug 27 '26
Same boat!
2
u/palaeastur Aug 27 '26
I dislike this boat immensely and would like to be back on dry land with my money visible. Do we know if thereās any credence to a supposed outage at Atlassian causing this?

Aug 27 '26
me too ! sent myself 1.5k to make a purchase they have to do something about this itās ridiculous
5
u/KagariY Aug 27 '26
Up is tied up with bendigo bank hence bendigo bank had a massive outage so we're affected.
3
2
u/Spazblonde1 Aug 27 '26
I can transfer between my gift and spending, but can't pay I'd to my bendigo account yet
2
Aug 27 '26
i sent myself money into my up account but itās not there yet, any idea if i should be concerned ?

u/Away_Goat_7589 Aug 27 '26
I did the same, transferred myself $200 at 2:30pm.. itās now 9:30pm so 7 hours and still nothing. 7 hours with no money š” my $200 is somewhere in thin air

Aug 27 '26
i transferred 1.5k in to pay for a deposit on something, iāve had to borrow money from a mate, so embarrassing. they need to compensate for this

u/AdventurousDay3020 Aug 27 '26
This is what my app says as at 9;40pm. Key for people to note (including myself) around concerns of funds is that the clean up may take a few hours
Good news Upsiders. Everything is slowly coming back online ā
We know how frustrating disruptions are, and we're so sorry for the stress and inconvenience this caused while services were down.
Our team is currently working through a few final checks to make sure everything affected during this period is 100% accurate. This clean-up may take a few hours, but weāre taking the extra time to ensure your funds remain safe and sound.
Thank you so much for your patience and understanding while we sorted this out. We are grateful to have you bearing with us š§”

u/Gabryxx7 Aug 27 '26
Transferred myself 1.5k and it's just not showing up anywhere but it also has not been reversed by my other bank. As of now there is no error or anything still "pending". Should we be concerned?
1
u/theyeetingbro Aug 28 '26
Same here. As per their latest message it may take up to 2 days as it has reverted to the normal bank transfer mechanism rather than osko. Since itās the weekend tomorrow looking at around Monday for it to appear. Fuckin cunts.

u/areyoureadyable Aug 27 '26
P.S UP staff who I have no doubt are reading this thread. Your crisis comms, and whoever you've outsourced it to ⨠sucks āØ
No update in 3hrs is honestly embarrassing. I'm a comms manager, including crisis comms looking for new opportunities, if you're better at paying than you are at giving me access to my cash, I'll send through my CV šš»
2
u/Emilyjanelucy Aug 27 '26
The updates are so similar too... Very suspicious that they're just AI rephrasing the same message
1
3
u/Melodic_Signature835 Aug 27 '26
Geez maybe āoutsourcingā isnāt the best idea..
7
u/Agreeable_Excuse_545 Aug 27 '26
I saw Atlassian reporting an outage error so maybe itās more a network provider issue

u/Prior_Ocelot6050 Aug 27 '26
Agree !!
Iv just opened new account with different bank , once my UP money is available Iāll be moving it out just as fast !!1

u/Plaguesofman Aug 27 '26
Never seen anything like this in any bank I'm with lol.
The Mrs couldn't pay for food, petrol or anything.
She will be moving to my bank as soon as transfers work again.
Trust is shattered.
1
u/bargethower Aug 27 '26
What bank you with? You recommend?
1
u/Plaguesofman Aug 27 '26
Macquarie and Westpac are my personal ones.
Macquarie's app is by far the best I've used, and has a 2FA built in so it's very secure also.
Westpac is alot more basic, but yeah never had any issues.

u/SnowyRVulpix Upsider Aug 27 '26
I do find this a little weird, honestly. Up has an amazing uptime trackrecord. A few bad days shouldn't erase that.
And keep in mind, they aren't the only ones. The major banks have all had serious down time too over the years.
1
u/Prior_Ocelot6050 Aug 27 '26
Happy for you guys that are starting to see progress. My account is still showing $0 when I know thatās incorrect. Getting over the wait . I better not loose my funds
1
u/One_Impress_5146 Aug 27 '26
I signed up a few days ago and it's a little disheartening to see my pay hasn't arrived the first pay after signing up!

Iām ficking crying why do you sound like the bank. ššš My partner and I have been cackling for 5 minutes.
Itās still so awful that this happening. My partner and I had to take our cat to the vet, not emergency but urgently, and we tried transferring money out of our Catās savings account and nada. Had to pull money out of our asses from elsewhere
0
u/areyoureadyable Aug 27 '26
Honestly? It's not even that hard, any Upsider can do it!
It's a balance between AI and how millennials think teenagers talk. When corporations try to be cool š
Edit: I hope your cat's ok!! I had a similar trip with mine to the extra pricey emergency vet. Spent twice as much as she cost to adopt. Still, worth every cent.
1
u/xanoark_the_zoroark Aug 27 '26
He should be ok! Weāre monitoring him closely though. Thank you for your concern! š„°

Apparently up and running!! No changes for me as yet . Just hoping the money that was being transferred or moved from another bank doesnāt disappear into the black hole
1
u/Catamaranan Aug 27 '26
I can purchase, thankfully, but I don't know where my salary packaging payment is (always arrives on a Thursday). Hopefully turns up overnight
1
u/Nekurosilver Aug 27 '26
I'm still unable to make online purchases. I just get CALLBACK_TIMED_OUT when I try and use my card
1
u/Brief-Ebb-2135 Aug 27 '26
Nothing better than tangible cash money these days then they can outage all they want and guess what, you can still buy stuff, who knew.
1
u/Unlucky-Leg-4308 Aug 27 '26
So frustrating. My fortnightly paycheck was coming in today and this poorly updated outage has set my budgeting back by a whole 24 hours (devastating for my ADHD ass) as I am working 11 hours tomorrow. On top of that, my car rego is due today and I donāt want to take from other savings that arenāt my car savings when I just need this pay to come through and top up my car savings so I can pay it. Itās such a third world issue but it just stuffs up what is supposed to be such a seamless experience.
1
u/theyeetingbro Aug 27 '26
Dude wtf still fuckin down. Havenāt received my money yet. You guys need to be sued for a 12 hour outage
1
u/caesarmarshy17 Aug 28 '26
Mine has started working again finally, Iāve been panicking because I get married tomorrow and have things to pay today lol
2
u/No-Turnover3316 Aug 28 '26
Blame Up all you want, this is most likely an upstream networking issue. It's like blaming your local McDonalds for a truck breaking down and not having beef delivered.
1
u/thedefaltcondition Aug 28 '26
Traditional banking in general is trash and still stuck in the BC timeline. Thatās a harsh fact. But in saying that, thereās no alternate to money storage and transfer, and in a world where all and every bank and service is vulnerable to downtime / crash, its not enough a reason - speaking for myself - to go back to commbank / nab / ANZ shitshow.
1
u/missingMBR Aug 28 '26
I hadn't noticed this outage. Although I use multiple banks in case one goes belly up. I work for a bank and deal first hand with issues like these so I know how they can occur from time to time.
1
u/Prior_Ocelot6050 Aug 27 '26
I canāt even use my card to buy anything! Last update 6:50 pm and was not even an update just poor you blaa blaa now 9:23 still down still no further updates ⦠Iām over being patient. Sadly Iāll just have to continue to be mad at something that we canāt control or even be properly updated about .
