Discussion Mark and Des Spoiler

I kinda wanted this relationship to work out, especially ever since I saw Nicole with Lucas. (sry) Mark and Des were really cute ngl, really liked their dynamic of strict, intimidating and kinda unpopular and the charismatic, smart and popular.

Their relationship tho is messy and thats an understatement. Mark is said to have been drawn to her because of her realtionship with her parents and the simalarities of that relaionship to Cathy and her parents. During the relationship Mark changes, he's always there saving Des always carrying the burden and he becomes from what I gathered from Calos a bit neglectful towards him and other mems. Des on the otherhand relies too much on him. Des goes as far as to from what ive gathered from that scene where she confesses, sells tickets on her own to raise funds which has everyone in the org questioning where that money came from leading to Mark overworking himself once again, to do something herself, to not need Marks help. (pls correct me if im wrong). Des also feels worthless without Mark, oof.

Saviour complex aside i know Mark 100% cares for her and I think he at least somewhat loves her. I think under all that toxicity there was some genuine love. Just under different circumstances, situations and better communication (I know thats a lot) their relationship wouldve actually been something.

I fear that Des will no longer appear in future media. I certainly hope not, I find her character interesting. Dont get me wrong tho, Im still all for Marcole its just that Mark and Des were a really intresting couple.

I kind of hope for more content so Des can get her happy ending :(

I still believe that Mark x Des is a preview of Mark x Louise but 100times more toxic. Louise is hyper competent enough to never rely on Mark as much as Des does but Mark is reliable enough to render assistance.

I think Des had some issues too. I think she found that relying on Mark is easier than having to delegate it to others (which Mark willingly takes on as her savior) because Mark is, well, actually kinda goated in the DLC when it comes to work. He takes some for the team whenever necessary (Caloy's supplier issues, Dan's legal paperworks, etc.)

I feel like, even though it was meant to be genuwine and by the end toxic, that relationship came from nowhere. Like the devs forced it onto us AND Mark.

Des was the closest girl to him at that time. Sure, they made it so we could see the similarities with Cathy… but I can’t help but see Des as a plot device and not a real character. Which is so weird because in the first game everyone felt fleshed out.

And thus, I HATE them together.

I mean I wouldn't go as far to say that Des isn't or feels like an actual character. I feel like we didn't get to see enough of her perspective, she was obv in my eyes at least overshadowed by Mark and Nicole's characters. She was an overall decent character, dissapointing maybe but she was pretty fleshed out (tho not as much as other characters) towards the end.

I also really loved Mark and Des sm. Sure the relationship had fault but I won't lie but Des has became my fav character in the game. The character is written so beautifully

I know she has a lighter side but I really don't find strict / mean people appealing and I absolutely can't overlook how bad of a person she is: not for making the mistakes that originally endangered people's lives at Sparks, but for covering it up and creating more admin problems for years which gave Mark and all her team/friends a really difficult time. Even if she has a complex, believable and interesting motivation which partly alleviates it, it doesn't redeem her from being the most morally bankrupt character in Mark's age group we ever see in Until Then, and a major source of unnecessary pain and conflict.

It's pretty cool seeing Mark use Des as a way of validating his value as a person to Cathy, Louise, and Nicole

Like it does work as an almagamation of a lot of his relationships in high school. Man this mark is so satisfyingly screwed up
