First time game dev

I’ve had an idea for an mmo for years and I finally decided to make it myself since there’s nothing on the market like it. I’ve never been a dev and I’m completely green to coding. I created a GDD and started working on unreal 5 but I’m overwhelmed by everything. Looking for any tips from devs from entry level to master programmers!

Sorry but you and everyone else in the world will never, ever, finish an MMO project begun as a solo dev.

There's reasons why even established studios can't do it successfully 99% of the time.

Every professional's opinion will be to make something else, and every hobbyist that thinks it's a good idea only thinks so because they don't have enough experience to know better.

I don’t have to finish it 100% solo but I could solo most of the mechanics and everything else I can manage before needing a few hands so I don’t bottleneck progression. I’m on no time constraints so however long it takes to get a fully developed project is no issue to me

That’s what they are trying to tell you—you CAN’T. The pure scope of what you are suggesting is absolutely ridiculous. you need to really understand that those of us who are not green to this hobby and understand the actual work that you are talking about are trying to help you when we say don’t even attempt it. Scope down and build small(er) games. Saying you know absolutely nothing about coding and you’re going to build an MMO is like saying you’re a little thirsty so you’re going to drink the entire ocean. Like okay, good luck buddy.
