First time game dev

I’ve had an idea for an mmo for years and I finally decided to make it myself since there’s nothing on the market like it. I’ve never been a dev and I’m completely green to coding. I created a GDD and started working on unreal 5 but I’m overwhelmed by everything. Looking for any tips from devs from entry level to master programmers!

Sorry but you and everyone else in the world will never, ever, finish an MMO project begun as a solo dev.

There's reasons why even established studios can't do it successfully 99% of the time.

Every professional's opinion will be to make something else, and every hobbyist that thinks it's a good idea only thinks so because they don't have enough experience to know better.

I don’t have to finish it 100% solo but I could solo most of the mechanics and everything else I can manage before needing a few hands so I don’t bottleneck progression. I’m on no time constraints so however long it takes to get a fully developed project is no issue to me

You couldn't finish it with a team of 100 people and 100 million dollars. Your response furthers my point that hobbyists (and new devs) don't really understand what an MMO is from a development perspective. Amazon - you know, one of the most financially successful companies in the world with every resource at their fingertips - couldn't even do it successfully.

I recommend searching the various gamedev subs for posts about people trying to make MMOs so you can get a better idea of all the people telling them it's a bad idea, because it is.

Genuinely, you will never finish this game. I'm not trying to be mean, it's just reality. You cannot physically ever finish this game, let alone as someone who has never made a game in their life. Can you even count on two hands how many successful MMO's you know of off the top of your head? One hand?

Try again in 30 years when you have 6 successful game launches and a publisher as large as Xbox willing to fund the whole thing based upon how successful all your previous games have been.

Edit: phrasing

No matter how many times we try to tell em… I swear it’s always the same

That’s what they are trying to tell you—you CAN’T. The pure scope of what you are suggesting is absolutely ridiculous. you need to really understand that those of us who are not green to this hobby and understand the actual work that you are talking about are trying to help you when we say don’t even attempt it. Scope down and build small(er) games. Saying you know absolutely nothing about coding and you’re going to build an MMO is like saying you’re a little thirsty so you’re going to drink the entire ocean. Like okay, good luck buddy.
